Blizzard Releases New Overwatch Comic Featuring Zarya And Sombra

As Overwatch is a competitive multiplayer game where players face off against each other in matches, it’s hard to have an ongoing storyline, or at least not through more traditional methods of completing quests, like in World of Warcraft. However Blizzard has made up for this by creating backstories for their characters as well as using mediums like animated shorts and comics to tell Overwatch’s story.

In fact if you’re itching to learn more about the world of Overwatch, Blizzard has recently launched a new Overwatch comic that will star Zarya and Sombra. According to the comic’s description, “Aleksandra Zaryanova is on a critical mission to eliminate Russia’s greatest threat, an elusive hacker known as Sombra.”

“The pursuit takes Zarya around the globe, but all her contacts share the same intel: they don’t know anything. With her trail cold and her leads exhausted, she reluctantly agrees to the only option she has left—a partnership with an omnic. Butting heads all the way, the two reluctant allies hone in on their target, unaware of the secret they will soon uncover…”

Dubbed “Searching”, this is the fifthteenth Overwatch comic that Blizzard has released to date. The comic itself is a free read and if you are interested in learning more about Overwatch and its characters, head on over to Blizzard’s website for the read.

Analyst Claims Apple’s TrueDepth Camera Gives Them A 2.5 Year Lead

Facial recognition systems for mobile devices aren’t new, although given that the examples we’ve seen in recent times where such systems can be tricked using photographs, it’s safe to say that many weren’t particularly enthusiastic about the technology. However Apple came along with the iPhone X which reignited interest in the tech again.

In fact it seems that Apple’s work with Face ID and the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X might have given the company a pretty solid lead over the competition, or at least that’s what KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is suggesting where he claims that it will probably take Android competitors up to 2.5 years to play catchup.

This isn’t the first time that Kuo has suggested that Apple is way ahead of the competition with Face ID, but it seems that following the unveiling of the iPhone X, Kuo is more confident than ever over Apple’s lead. Many have made fun of the new iPhones, claiming that Apple is finally “catching up” in terms of hardware and software features that Android had many years ago.

However whether or not Face ID will work as planned remains to be seen as the iPhone X is only going to be released this November.

Stardew Valley Coming To Nintendo Switch October 5

While having big triple-A titles arrive for the Nintendo Switch is one of the ways to help attract more gamers to come on board the platform, having indie games also makes the platform appealing to gamers who want to have some options. Earlier this year Nintendo confirmed at least 60 indie titles would be arriving for the Switch, with Stardew Valley being one of them.

For those wondering when that will be launched, you might be pleased to learn that Nintendo has recently announced that Stardew Valley for the Switch will be arriving on the 5th of October, which is in the next couple of days. Prior to this, the game had been approved for launch on the Switch but a date had yet to be set.

For those unfamiliar, Stardew Valley is a farming simulator that has gotten quite a bit of attention due to its fun gameplay and cute graphics, which reminds us of those 8-bit games from back in the day. While the game has been a single-player title, its creators announced earlier this year that multiplayer is an upcoming feature that will be first released on the Switch as far as consoles are concerned.

According to Nintendo, Stardew Valley on the Switch will be priced at $15 and will be available for download via the eShop on the 5th of October.

Toys “R” Us Launches App That Turns Its Stores Into AR Playgrounds

While augmented reality (AR) technology isn’t new, it is thanks to games like Pokemon GO that truly showed the potential of the technology and how it could be used in the mainstream. Toy retailer Toys “R” Us seems to have grasped the idea as the company has recently launched their own AR app called Play Chaser.

Basically the idea of the app is that it will turn Toys “R” Us stores into AR playgrounds, where kids can virtually interact with different parts of the store, play games, and so on. According to the company, “The play experiences are fun and interactive – from a virtual basketball hoop that kids can shoot at solo or alongside friends in-store, to a baby nursery where they can select a unique, digital You & Me doll, take it home and care for it (think: changing diapers, feeding and bath time!).”

“There’s even a virtual Geoffrey the Giraffe to welcome customers to the store, explain the app and send kids on their quest for in-store play. Another cool feature? Some games have leaderboards that show where players rank amongst each other in their local store and nationally. “

As it stands there are a handful of stores that Play Chaser is being tested out at the moment, but the company expects that all stores will support the app come 21st of October, a rather surprising announcement considering that Toys “R” Us had just recently filed for bankruptcy.
