Skyrim, Fallout 4 Updated With Xbox One X Enhancements

We expect that over the next few months and years, developers will start releasing games on consoles that will support better quality graphics, higher resolutions, and more frame rates. However this doesn’t mean that in the meantime older games will have to look terrible, at least not all of them.

In a recent update that was rolled out to Skyrim and Fallout 4, it seems that Bethesda has decided to give both of their games an upgrade, where they will now feature enhancements so that it looks better while playing on the Xbox One X. This includes 4K support and also dynamic resolution, and the best part is that the update is free. Given the enhanced graphics, it’s almost as if you are playing a new game.

These aren’t the only games that Bethesda has updated. Previously the company released updates for titles such as Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Dishonored 2, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and The Evil Within 2. So if you own the Xbox One X or are planning on buying it, then note that these are some of the titles that have been enhanced for the platform.

Granted developing specifically for the console would have been more ideal, but we suppose this isn’t a bad workaround.

Take-Two’s President Claims Loot Boxes Aren’t Gambling

Loot boxes have been around for a while now, but it is only in more recent times that they’ve been put into the spotlight over a controversial debate as to whether or not they are considered gambling. Various authorities around the world have announced that they will be looking into it, while over in Belgium, authorities have indeed classified it as gambling and want it banned across Europe.

However it seems that if there is one person who doesn’t think that loot boxes is gambling, it would be Take-Two’s president, Karl Slatoff. Speaking at the Credit Suisse 21st Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Slatoff was quoted as saying, “The whole gambling regulator thing, we don’t view that sort of thing as gambling.”

He adds, “It’s about overdelivering on content and making sure you’re focused on engagement. That has been our strategy and where we’re focused, and as long as you keep your eye on that ball, you’re going to be OK. The consumer’s going to be really happy with what they get.” Take-Two is the parent company of developers such as Rockstar, who are behind titles like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne, just to name a few.

That being said, whether or not authorities will agree with Slatoff’s reasoning is a different story, but no doubt that loot boxes and other microtransactions is one of the more popular ways for developers and publishers to earn money these days that go beyond the sale of the game itself.

Destiny 2 XP earn rate will be recalibrated to level up faster

Bungie has detailed the changes it is making to Destiny 2 following the “tough criticism” it faced in recent weeks. ZTE Axon 7 axed, no successor in sight yet

Facebook Temporarily Stops Advertisers From Excluding Racial Groups

One of the nifty features of Facebook is the ability to create posts and ads that can target certain demographics, making it easier to reach a variety of audiences without spamming the feeds of your friends or followers. However the company has come under fire in the past for what appeared to be discriminatory filters.

In fact a recent report revealed that despite having it been pointed out, Facebook has still allowed such filters to exist, or at least until now. Facebook has since announced that they will be temporarily stopping advertisers from excluding racial or ethnic groups in their ads, at least until they can figure out a better way to prevent the abuse of the system.

In a letter shared with USA Today, Facebook wrote to Cedric Richmond (D-La.), chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus in which it reads, “Until we can better ensure that our tools will not be used inappropriately, we are disabling the option that permits advertisers to exclude multicultural affinity segments from the audience for their ads.”

Facebook has also stated that they will be working with various groups to make improvements, publish the steps that they are taking, and also put ads that target specific races or ethnicities under additional reviews before allowing them to go live.

HTC’s Latest Investment In VR Includes A Brain Control Company

The way we control our characters or our actions in virtual reality isn’t that ideal at the moment. It involves the use of physical controllers which may or may not mimic what we see in game. However it seems that companies are exploring the idea of using our brains to control VR, and HTC’s latest investment seems to lean towards that.

The company has recently unveiled that they’ve invested in 26 startups through its Vive X program, one of which is a company called Neurable. For those wondering why they sound familiar, it is because Neurable is one of the companies investing in brain control VR, and HTC’s investment should help speed things along.

The company uses EEG signals for real-time interaction input, and combines the research from neuroscience and machine learning, all of which should allow users to interact within the VR space using just their mind. That being said, brain-controllable devices aren’t exactly new. We have seen how companies have created brain-controlled gadgets like wheelchairs, or for more novel purposes, brain-controlled drones.

Whether or not this will be more effective than using physical controls, and whether or not it will come to fruition and released as a consumer product remains to be seen, but it is one avenue that could be worth exploring.
