Amazon was working on plans to launch a streaming bundled TV service that would feature both broadcast and cable networks, though that’s been on hold since the spring, according to Bloomberg. However, now we know why this endeavor was scrapped: money…
Amazon and Ally Bank have created a new skill for the former’s AI-powered digital assistant Alexa. The skill brings a new personal finance feature for Alexa that’s powered by Ally Bank. The bank’s customers can now ask Alexa questions like how many hours will they need to work in order to purchase a house, car or even that vacation they’ve always wanted.
Alexa already has a plethora of skills that enable it to perform a wide variety of tasks, ranging from calling you an Uber to reading out the news and keep an eye on your bank account.
This feature will help users ascertain whether the thing they want to purchase is even worth the amount of time they will spend working in order to earn it. This can provide some much needed perspective to those who have a tendency to get trapped in the rat race just because their wants outweigh their needs.
The new feature is called CurrenSee. Users can start off by asking Alex to open Ally and tell them how much a product or experience costs in CurrenSee. Alexa will then ask them how much they make in a year and how many hours they work in a week. It will then calculate and inform the user precisely how many hours of work they will have to put in to purchase that product or experience.
This is an expansion of the existing partnership between Amazon and Ally Bank. The bank’s customers can already perform everyday banking tasks on Amazon’s Echo devices. They can keep an eye on account balances, recent transactions and deposits, check current interest rates, and even transfer money.

Sony’s lineup of PlayStation VR bundles is steadily increasing. Merely days after launching the Gran Turismo Sport PlayStation VR bundle, Sony today announced the launch of its Doom VFR PSVR bundle. The bundle has been announced as the release date for Doom VFR closes in. It’s going to vault players into an entirely new gameplay experience that’s built for virtual reality.
To be clear, Doom VFR is more of a side story of the full title instead of a VR version of the full game. So don’t purchase this bundle if you want to play the entire game in virtual reality. That’s not possible yet.
Doom VFR will transport players to the UAC facility on Mars and the depths of Hell. Their skills will be put to the test in intense combat. Players will be tasked with restoring operational stability on the UAC’s Martian research facility after the demonic invasion and use any means necessary to stop the demons.
The title can either be played with a DualShock 4 controller, PlayStation Move controllers or the PlayStation VR Aim Controller for those who want an even better experience.
Sony’s PlayStation VR Doom VFR bundle is going to be released in the United States and Canada starting December 1st. It’s going to cost $399.99. The bundle includes a PlayStation VR headset, a PlayStation Camera, the new PS VR demo disc, and a copy of Doom VFR.

Multiple reports have suggested that Amazon is developing a standalone TV streaming service that will be aimed at cord-cutters. However, if a new report is to be believed, the company has decided to give up on its plans to launch a standalone online TV streaming service. Previous reports had claimed that the service would bundle popular broadcast and cable networks in the country.
The main reason Amazon is believed to have decided to let this go is that the company believes that it can’t make enough money on the service.
Reuters reports that Amazon has also been unable to convince important broadcast and basic cable networks to ditch their conventional business models and join its a la carte Amazon Channels service. Amazon has now reportedly backed away from talks with them.
That’s not to say that Amazon is losing interest in the entertainment niche. On the contrary, it recently announced the purchase of global TV rights to The Lord of the Rings. Amazon is planning to develop a multi-season series that will bring in more subscribers for its Prime Video service.
Amazon could decide to change course and try to launch such a service once again, but for now, the talks between the company and key stakeholders are said to be over.

Gone are the days when you had to carry around a big Polaroid camera just to get instant prints of your photos. There are countless portable printers available on the market today that will let you print photos instantly. If you happen to own a Moto Z handset, you can also get the new Polaroid Insta-Share Printer Moto Mod that Motorola has announced today. As the name suggests, this Moto Mod will give you instant prints of your photos.
The Moto Z series is Motorola’s modular line of smartphones. There are a variety of mods available that enable users to enhance the capabilities of their handsets.
This is one of the more useful mods that have been released for the Moto Z handsets. We first saw the Polaroid Mod at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in February where it was unveiled alongside the Alexa speaker that’s also shipping this week.
This mod sticks a small photo printer onto the back of the smartphone. It doesn’t enhance the camera’s abilities as the mod has a cut out that gives way to the handset’s onboard camera.
The mod relies on ZINK technology to print 2×3 inch photos from the handset’s internal memory as well as from apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Google Photos.
The Polaroid Insta-Share Printer Moto Mod will be available for purchase from Motorola.com and Verizon starting November 17th for $199.99.

Inspero, the maker of the Vinci 1.5 is coming back to Kickstarter with new AI-powered headphones, this time in a thin and light form-factor.
Last year, the company over to $1.2 million on crowdfunding sites for its first model of over the ear smart headphones, equipped with an LCDtouchscreenn.
The new device, dubbed Vinci 2.0, is packed with sensors, connectivity options, and intelligence, and features a smaller touch display and earphones. Powered by a MediaTek Quad-core Cortex A7 processor with 1 GB of RAM (up to 2 GB) and a custom version of Android, it connects directly to WiFi and 3G networks, offers up to
32 Gb internal storage and measures your heart rate, so no need to take your phone to go for a run.
Industrial Design (great)
Last week I met Inspero co-founder Max Wu, who showed me a prototype of the Vinci 2.0 and I was impressed by the extensive list of features in such a compact and practical design that weighs less than 90 grams! Standalone earphones with large storage capacities and biometric sensors are the norm today, since people want to run while listening to music. However, wireless earphones tend to be lost during a workout and it is not practical to take them out if needed, additionally, when you take them out, they stop monitoring the heart rate.
Inspero solved this by placing the heart rate sensor inside the neck piece, the part that rests on the back of your neck. According to Max Wu, it is a place where it is quite easy for an optical heart rate sensor to accurately measure the pulse. This is a brilliant design as it allows to take the earphones out, without the need to put them in your pocket like you have to do with wireless devices and it continues to monitor the heart rate.
The form factor is also harder to lose or drop compared to tiny wireless earphones.
Photo gallery: please note that the unit I shot is a prototype and the final product will look nicer according to Max Wu, co-founder, Inspero.
OLED Display with Touch UI (unique – good)
The 0.95-inch OLED color display with 240×120 resolution allows users to interact with the earphones with tactile gesture interface (waves, swipes, etc.), a pretty convenient way to control their music while working out.
Connectivity (great on the paper)
Vinci 2.0 comes with built-in 3G and WiFi connectivity that allow users to place phone calls and access content online no matter where they are. According to the company, you can access music from Spotify, Soundcloud or Amazon music directly from the earphones, or you can store songs in the internal memory, depending on the model you purchase: the Vinci 2.0 lite offers 8GB, the Pro comes with 16GB and the Supreme gets 32GB.
I could not try the connectivity with the prototype I saw because the software was not yet fully implemented in there I listened and interacted with the previous model Vinci 1.5, the one with the large LCD display.
Built-in AI Assistant with voice recognition (great on the paper)
The new smart headphones feature a built-in AI assistant that works using biosensing hardware and neural network learning algorithms. Users can use voice commands to interact with the device. The AI engine learns from users’ habits and data such as heart rate, location, and music tastes, to providing music options and assistance in relation to the user’s context. We still need to try this to check how well it works.
In addition to its own proprietary smart voice assistant, Vinci 2.0 syncs with Amazon Alexa, so users can access thousands of skills while on the go.
You can pre-order the Vinci 2.0 Lite, Pro or Supreme, on the Kickstarter campaign, prices range from $79 (Lite super-early bird) to $319 (Supreme) it comes in several color options: black, white, red, and blue.
