Welcome to your Monday morning. We jumped into the UFC’s high-tech battle against fighter injury, how the Pixel 2 delivers silky smooth video and Russia’s Twitter influence beyond US politics. And there’s a few other things, naturally.
Seeing crossovers in movies, TV shows, anime, comics, and video games are always fun. This is because it is always interesting to see how character(s) might act in a completely different setting, and how their abilities/powers work in a different universe. For fans of Final Fantasy, that crossover is happening with Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis and Tekken 7.
Bandai Namco has recently launched a trailer video in which Noctis will be a playable character in Tekken 7 in a DLC that is expected to be released in the Spring of 2018. According to the company, “Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV enters the TEKKEN 7 ring! Wielding his signature Engine Blade, Noctis is ready to deal heavy hard-hitting blows as he takes on the likes of Yoshimitsu, Devil Jin, Jack 7, and the rest of the TEKKEN 7 fighters when he enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament in spring 2018!”
This DLC will be available across the various platforms that Tekken 7 is playable on, which includes the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the PC. Gamers who are interested in seeing how the character plays in Tekken 7 and his various moves in the game can check out the trailer above. In the meantime and speaking about crossovers, it has also recently been announced that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will released as a DLC for Injustice 2.

Earlier this month there were reports that Qualcomm could be acquired, and just last week it was confirmed that Broadcom would be the company looking to takeover the company in which they have made a bid for Qualcomm worth a whopping $130 billion. Now that is a lot of money, but apparently it isn’t enough.
According to a report from Reuters, it seems that Qualcomm is looking for a way to reject Broadcom’s takeover bid. The report claims that Qualcomm’s CEO Steven Mollenkopf has been speaking to various Qualcomm shareholders asking for their feedback, and feels that the $70 per share offered by Broadcom is undervaluing the company, and does not take into account the uncertainty in getting approved by regulators.
Assuming this is true, things could get pretty messy as Broadcom’s CEO Hock Tan had previously stated that he is open to a takeover battle. Reuter’s sources also claim that Broadcom was preparing to submit a slate of directors that would allow the company’s shareholders to vote to replace the current board of directors, which in turn could see a new board of directors that would be more favorable towards Broadcom’s takeover bid.
Alternatively Reuter’s source also suggests that Broadcom could raise its bid for Qualcomm, although it is unclear which route the company plans to take. That being said, all of this could be decided as early as next week, with Qualcomm’s board of directors reportedly planning on meeting on Sunday to review the offer and come up with a strategy.

In the mobile space, Samsung is still a pretty huge name and they are still a big player in the smartphone industry. However it seems that the company is slowly losing their lead in certain markets, such as in China where according to Strategy Analytics, the firm has predicted that Samsung’s market share in the country could drop below 2% in the next quarter.
Prior to this back in 2015, Samsung was leading the Chinese market with a market share of 20%, but it is clear that the competition from Chinese OEMs has put a ton of pressure on the company, with Huawei taking the lead. According to Lee Byung-tae, a professor at KAIST College of Business, he seems to believe that Samsung and other companies like LG are fighting an uphill battle in China.
Lee was quoted as saying, “It seems almost impossible for Samsung to upend the Chinese smartphone market reorganized by local firms with quality products and affordable prices. Since successful Chinese firms are expanding their presence in budget smartphone markets, including India, Samsung and LG’s global presence will shrink further unless they secure competitiveness against Chinese firms.”
We’re not sure if Samsung will be able to rebound from this, but the company is not alone. Earlier this year it was reported that Apple’s iPhone market share in China was also on the decline.

We have been hearing that Samsung is working on a refreshed model of its mid-ranger, the Samsung Galaxy A5. We suppose it’s not a stretch to think that Samsung could have a new model in the works, although so far the reports have been mostly rumors. However it looks like Samsung themselves might have confirmed the handset.
In a tweet by Roland Quandt, it seems that Samsung Korea’s website has a support page for a certain SM-A530. For those who don’t keep track of the model numbers of phones, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2015) had the model number SM-A500, while the 2016 model had the SM-A510 model number, and the 2017 model had the model number SM-A520, so based on this pattern, it’s safe to say that the SM-A530 is probably in reference to the 2018 model.

Unfortunately apart from the model number, the support page doesn’t tell us more than that. This means that in terms of specs and features, it’s still anyone’s guess. However given that it is a mid-ranger, we’re probably looking at very normal specs with nothing to shout about. However there have been rumors that have suggested that the Galaxy A5 (2018) could have an infinity display similar to that of the Galaxy S8, S8+, and the Note 8.
Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but it could be something of a game changer for Samsung’s mid-range lineup, and could also encourage other OEMs to step up their mid-range offerings.

Bethesda’s Skyrim is one of the more beloved RPGs in recent times. The game was originally released back in 2011, but thanks to DLCs, mods, enhanced versions of the game, and also a virtual reality (VR) version of the game, interest in the game has been kept alive and well. In fact in a few days, Skyrim VR is set for a release.
For gamers who are wondering if maybe the VR version of the game is worth their time, the folks at Bethesda have released a new trailer for the game, which combines footage from the game itself as well as interviews with the developers who speak more about the game, what gamers can expect, and how the VR version of the game is different from the original.
If you have a couple of minutes to spare, then the video above could be worth checking out. Skyrim VR is set for a release on the PlayStation VR platform come 17th of November, and Sony already has a PlayStation VR bundle that gamers can purchase if they’re interested in getting the game and the headset.
The 17th of November is also the same day that Skyrim (the non-VR version) will arrive for the Nintendo Switch. As for other platforms, Skyrim VR is also expected to find its way onto the HTC Vive in 2018.
