Revamped Snapchat Will Separate The Social From The Media

It was reported not too long ago that Snapchat was working on a major redesign and it has launched the revamped version of its app today. The new and improved Snapchat has been developed around the user and it will offer them enhanced personalization options. Snapchat also says that the new version is going to separate the social from the media, it’s no longer going to mix photos and videos from friends with content from advertisers and publishers.

The app will have two sections. All chats and stories from friends will be available on the left side of the app while stories from creators, publishers, and the community will be on the right side.

To improve personalization, Snapchat has developed a new dynamic Friends page. Available to the left of the camera, it displays the users’ friends based on the way they communicate with them.

It’s going to eliminate the need to scroll endlessly through chats to find the person the user wants to snap with. The app is going to list their friends in the order that they want to talk to them. Since it’s powered by an algorithm, it’s going to take the Friends page some time to figure out the users’ preferences.

There’s a new Discover page that includes stories from creators, publishers, and the community. The subscriptions are displayed at the top as well as other stories that users might be interested in watching. Snapchat still opens to the camera as before.

The new Snapchat is available for download starting today.

2016 Uber Hack Affected 2.7 Million Users And Drivers In The UK

It was reported recently that Uber discovered that it suffered a major data breach in 2016. Not only that, the company reportedly tried to sweep the matter under the rug. Uber has now started to reveal more information about what happened. It’s believed that more than 57 million Uber users were affected globally. The company has revealed that more than 2.7 million users and drivers in the United Kingdom were impacted by this breach.

Their personal information was compromised in the data breach. It left their names, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers exposed.

Uber says that the 2.7 million figure is an approximation because some users might disclose a different location to the one where they actually live. Nevertheless, there’s no denying the fact that quite a lot of people have been impacted by this breach.

Uber hired third-party forensic experts to look into the matter. It’s of the view that credit card numbers, trip location histories, bank account numbers, and dates of birth were not compromised in the breach.

The Information Commissioner’s Office of the UK has already launched an investigation into the matter, saying that it has “huge concerns” about Uber’s data practices and its decision not to disclose the breach.

“We have seen no evidence of fraud or misuse tied to the incident,” Uber said in a statement. It’s monitoring the affected accounts and has flagged them for additional fraud protection.

Samsung And Swarovski Team Up For A Limited Edition Galaxy S8+

Merely days after launching the Galaxy S8 in a new Burgundy Red color option, Samsung today announced that it has teamed up with Swarovski to launch a limited edition model of the Galaxy S8+. It’s called the Galaxy S8+ SMARTgirl Limited Edition. There’s nothing really different about this device, it appears to be another way for Samsung to sell its Pink Rose Galaxy S8+ to the ladies.

The SMARTgirl Limited Edition of the Galaxy S8+ comes with a bundled Swarovski case. The company does create cases for popular smartphones that are decked out in crystals so it’s not surprising to see that it’s sticking with the script for its latest collaboration with Samsung.

As far as the specs are concerned, everything remains the same. The handset has the same 6.2 inch WQHD+ Infinity Display, it’s also powered by the same Exynos 8895 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. It features a 12 megapixel rear and 8 megapixel front camera. The handset is powered by Android 7.0 Nougat and features a 3,500mAh battery.

The Samsung Swarovski SMARTgirl Limited Edition Galaxy S8+ only seems to be available in Spain at this point in time. Only a few thousand units of this device will be sold and when they’re out, the stock will not be replenished. At a price tag of €949, who’s to say how soon that will happen.
