Microsoft started selling the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in its stores not too long ago. It was referred to as the “Microsoft Edition” because it came with several Microsoft apps pre-installed. The handsets didn’t have any spec bumps or changes. Microsoft was just selling them and providing some training to users so that they could get the most out of its apps. Samsung has now clarified that there is actually no such thing as a “Microsoft Edition” Galaxy S8.
Many found it ironic that Microsoft was selling an Android smartphone even though its own Windows-powered smartphones are nowhere to be found in its stores. Then again, Microsoft has given up on the platform altogether.
Samsung has now sent out a statement confirming that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are available from Microsoft’s online and retail stores with “a unique Microsoft experience which ensures their customers, particularly small-to-midsize business owners and entrepreneurs, a best-in-class productivity experience.”
However, it also clarified that “There is not a ‘Microsoft Edition’ brand of any Samsung Galaxy products.”
So you can stop referring to the Galaxy S8 that’s sold in Redmond’s stores as the Microsoft Edition. There’s no such thing and probably won’t be for the foreseeable future.
