Apple IDs With Third-Party Emails Can Now Be Updated To Apple Email

If you’re someone who uses a third-party email address for their Apple ID account, then you may or may not be aware of the fact that whenever you update your email address to a different one, you cannot change it to an Apple email address. Instead you will have to keep using third-party email addresses.

However it seems that Apple has decided to change that. In a recent change Apple made to Apple ID, the company is now allowing users to change their third-party email addresses to that of Apple’s own email addresses. This means that if you have an @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com email address that you would prefer using for Apple ID, you can now make the switch easily.

This is according to a report from MacRumors in which one of their readers, Dillon, got in touch with Apple to ask them about it. Apparently they took his email rather seriously and they recently got in touch with him to confirm that the change had been made. “I couple of weeks ago I sent an email addressed to Tim Cook, Craig Federighi, Phil Schiller, and Eddy Cue. I explained the situation and asked if they could fix it.”

“Last week I received an email and phone call from someone at Apple Executive Relations. The women I spoke to told me that the problem would be sent to an engineering team and would be addressed. Today I got another call and email informing me that the issue had been resolved.” The change has also been reflected in the Apple ID support document.

China Testing Out Replacing Pharmacists With Robots

In this day and age where speed, precision, and efficiency are highly valued, which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to see robots start finding their way into more industries. We’ve seen how robots are taking over factory jobs, but soon it is possible that pharmacists could find themselves out of a job as well.

This is because over in China, the Midea Group has announced that they will be working with Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings to introduce robots to the workforce, where robots could be used to pick, package, and distribute pills at hospitals and drugstores. This could eventually mean that pharmacists could find themselves out of a job in the future should this prove to be a success.

According to Midea Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Paul Fang, “There is explosive potential in robotics and automation in China, and we are only at the beginning. Every consumer sector in China is upgrading and our cooperation seizes this trend in health care.’’ That being said, pharmacists do more than just dispense pills, such as counsel patients on how to take their medicine, advise patients on what kind of medication they might need for certain ailments, and so on, so it won’t eliminate the profession entirely, but who knows what could change in the next 5-10 years?

Researchers Create AI To Help Detect Suicidal Thoughts In Brain Scans

How does one detect if another person has suicidal thoughts or tendencies? There are many ways to go about it, although sometimes as humans ourselves, we might be too busy or engrossed with our own lives to tell if someone else is suffering. This is why there have been tools built to help with detection.

In fact recently it seems that researchers have managed to develop an algorithm that is apparently capable of detecting suicidal thoughts based on a person’s brain scan. The team discovered that based on fMRI scans, certain keywords trigger activity in different parts of the brain depending on whether or not they feel suicidal. Based on this discovery, they built an algorithm that measures overall brain activity and determine when activity in suicide-linked regions is particularly strong.

So far it seems that the system that they’ve built is 91% accurate, although according to Dr. Marcel Just, he tells The Methods Man that this isn’t necessarily a guarantee. This is because so far in their tests, all subjects have been volunteers which means that in a real-world scenario, whether or not a suicidal person will actually confess their feelings is another story.

However we suppose it is better to be safe than sorry, and reaching out to someone who may or may not be in need isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Like we said, tools have been built to try and address suicide, such as Facebook who earlier this year launched an AI tool that would attempt to flag/identify users who might be suicidal based on their posts.

This Website Uses AI To Enhance Your Low-Res Photos

We’ve seen it on TV and movies, where by some kind of movie magic, blurry photos can magically be enhanced to become super sharp and clear. However it seems that something that was once believed to be fiction is now a reality and comes in the form of a website/service called “Let’s Enhance” (via PetaPixel).

Basically the idea behind the service is that it will help to enhance your photos, or to be more specific, it will help enhance your low-res photos into photos that are of a higher resolution, and thus sharper when enlarged. This is thanks to the use of AI and neural networks which is said to help make the enhancements smarter and more realistic.

This is versus using photo editing tools in apps like Photoshop and upscaling, in which depending on the photo and also on your editing skills, may or may not necessarily look ideal. Of course in this day and age where our photos are becoming higher resolution, this service might not necessarily be for everyone.

However if you do have old photos lying around taken by your VGA cameras from back in the day that maybe you’d like it blown up a little bit, then perhaps this could be worth checking out. It appears that for now Let’s Enhance is a free service and all users have to do is sign up for an account to get started.

Target Will Help Customers Order Online If Stores Are Out Of Stock

When it comes to shopping, we can choose to shop at a store in person or shop online. Clearly there are benefits to both, such as being able to see a product for yourself in person, and being able to take it home with you on the spot. Shopping online however offers a more convenient option if you do not have time, or can’t be bothered to go out.

Now it looks like Target will be merging the two shopping experiences together, sort of. The company has recently announced a new initiative that will help make the experience shopping at Target better for customers, and this is done by Target actually helping customers to place an order online should the store in question run out of stock of the particular item.

Prior to this, if a shop was out of stock you could either opt to go to a different Target (or retailer for that matter), or place an order online, although the latter option usually meant that you have to do it yourself. However according to Target, “Team members can use myCheckout to search Target.com for desired products, then take guests’ payment on the spot with a credit card reader that’s attached to the handheld device. Guests walk away knowing their items are en-route to their doorstep—with free shipping, by the way!”

Target had already begun testing out the feature earlier this Spring and have since conducted more than 10,000 transactions to date. While not exactly groundbreaking, it does help make the lives of customers easier, especially those who might not know how to shop online or find the item that they are looking for.
