Damson S-Series makes Dolby Atmos wireless: Hands-on

Home cinema fans want Dolby Atmos, but they generally don’t want a room full of speakers and cables: enter Damson’s confusingly small, wireless Atmos surround sound system. The British company has cooked up the first wireless modular home cinema system to support Atmos sound, promising ridiculously easy setup and performance that punches above its scale. I picked up some popcorn … Continue reading

How to buy Bitcoin for USD before the price hits $10k (later today)

This afternoon Bitcoin will almost certainly reach $10,000 USD per coin – making this another all-time-high in a month full of all-time-highs. This price means each full Bitcoin is worth approximately 10-thousand United States Dollars. It also means that each fraction of a Bitcoin is also at its own all-time-high. One common misconception about Bitcoin is that the price makes … Continue reading

Civilization VI’s first expansion Rise and Fall: Release date and details

It’s been a little while since we heard from Civilization VI. Though 2K and Firaxis have been supporting the game with Civilization and Scenario DLC packs here and there since launch, it hasn’t received a full expansion yet. That’s all going to change next year, when freshly-announced expansion Rise and Fall launches. Expansions are usually big things for Civilization games. … Continue reading

Microsoft's latest Windows 10 experiment: Running apps in tabs

When it comes to multitasking, few UI upgrades were as helpful as browser tabs. Instead of juggling dozens of windows on your computer, they let you place multiple websites in a single pane. It’s the sort of thing we take for granted today — especia…

Huawei says it can do better than Apple's Face ID

Huawei has a history of trying to beat Apple at its own game (it unveiled a “Force Touch” phone days before the iPhone 6s launch), and that’s truer than ever now that the iPhone X is in town. At the end of a presentation for the Honor V10, the compa…

Damson S-Series: Home Cinema Audio System with Dolby Atmos

Today, Damson unveiled its S-Series home wireless surround sound system, with Dolby Atmos available today for pre-orders for less than a thousand dollar! The S-Series costs $799.99 in the U.S. (/£799.99 / €849.99 in Europe) and features a soundbar, subwoofer, 2 S-Cubes and a Dolby Atmos Speaker, enabling the system to decode all Dolby formats, including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby Atmos.

Dolby Atmos is an immersive sound experience available in some movie theaters across the country, a technology that places speakers above the audience and places the origin of the sound in a place in 3D space. In regular 5.1 or 7.1 sound systems, when you need to make noises come from behind the audience, you just play the sounds in the speakers placed there. With Dolby Atmos, instead of just reproducing the sound in a specific speaker, it is played from a specific location in 3D space, to make the experience more realistic. Dolby Atmos allows sound designers to mix up to 128 sound elements into up to 64 speakers simultaneously.

With the Damson S-series, you can get that experience with fewer speakers at home, without having to plug any cables, except for the power. During my meeting with Damson Global CEO & Co-founder James Talbot, I listened to various movie trailers, and videos with the Atmos sound and the quality and experience were very good, for a system with way fewer speakers than what you find in movie theaters.

The technology is now available in some smartphones, tablets and most recently Apple and Netflix implemented Dolby Atmos in their TV and software, respectively.

LEGO Food Stands Look Good Enough to Eat

For every awesome LEGO kit you can buy, there are dozens more that creative LEGO builders come up with that you can’t. At least not yet. Here’s one such set that’s currently seeking support over on the LEGO Ideas website.

Clearly inspired by buildings like LA’s iconic Tail of the Pup and the Bluth’s Banana stand from Arrested Development, LEGO builder FrostBricks came up with this awesome set of food shacks that look like giant-size fast food. The set envisions a chain of restaurants from the “Fabulous Fernando Brothers,” who serve up tasty treats to LEGO minifigs.

There’s a cheeseburger joint, a milkshake stand, and a french fry restaurant which is making me crave some Mickey D’s fries right now. The kit would include tiny food accessories for minifigs to feast on, and each stand would have fully detailed interiors.

If you like these as much as I do, show your support with a vote over on the LEGO Ideas website, and hopefully we’ll be enjoying them as official LEGO kits sometime in the future. In the meantime, I’m heading out to get a burger and fries for lunch now.
