Samsung’s ‘Graphene Ball’ Will Make Your Batteries Charge Faster

The research division of Samsung Electronics has developed a “graphene ball” which it claims will enable lithium-ion batteries to charge faster and also last longer. Simply put, the technology will enable batteries to charge faster than they do right now. However, the technology is yet to trickle down into consumer electronics. Samsung has only patented its graphene ball technology at this point in time.

The graphene ball has been developed by the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology. The division said that using this material to develop batteries will not only increase their capacity by 45 percent but also improve their charging speed by five times.

Lithium-ion batteries currently take at least an hour to charge fully, if not more. Samsung says that this new technology is going to reduce the charging time of lithium-ion batteries to just 12 minutes.

Batteries that are made with the graphene ball technology will also be able to maintain a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius, that’s what’s required for batteries in electric cars. This means that this technology can prove to be useful in areas beyond consumer electronics.

Samsung has patented this technology in the United States and South Korea. It’s unclear at this point in time when the company is going to introduce it in its products so that its customers can reap the benefits of this technological advancement.

Amazon’s Sumerian Tool Can Be Used To Develop AR And VR Experiences

Amazon is doing its bit for the advancement of augmented and virtual reality technology with the launch of Sumerian. Amazon’s Sumerian tool is available in limited preview started today. The wider rollout will take place in the coming months.

Sumerian enables developers to combine 3D models together in scenes that will be used in virtual reality and augmented reality applications at launch. It comes with its own object library that’s full of models that developers can use. They have also been given the ability to import assets from FBX and OBJ files.

Developers will also be given access to a set of “hosts,” these are 3D characters that can customer to interact with a user. The hosts will be integrated with Amazon Polly and Lex to deliver natural language abilities, not unlike those present on the Alexa personal assistant.

Samsung Expected To Launch Galaxy S9 In January

It’s not uncommon for us to hear reports suggesting that Samsung’s next flagship smartphone is going to be released ahead of schedule. That’s what he hear almost every year when a new flagship device is around the corner. These reports are now coming in for the Galaxy S9. Another report out of South Korea claims that Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy S9 in January.

It was also reported last week that Samsung is going to showcase the Galaxy S9 at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in January but it’s going to release the handset later.

Recent reports are also suggesting the same thing. Samsung is now expected to show off its new flagship smartphone at the annual trade show in Las Vegas come January.

Samsung has apparently made this decision as it wants to compete more effectively against Apple and the onslaught of Chinese OEMs that are eating into its market share.

The report even claims that the LG G7 is going to be launched earlier than expected, with LG unveiling the handset in January next year.

Neither Samsung or LG have confirmed that their next flagship smartphones will be launched ahead of schedule so until there’s concrete information to go on, take these reports with a grain of salt.

Essential Phone Price Dropped To Lowest-Ever For Cyber Monday

Andy Rubin’s hardware startup Essential hasn’t seen a lot of success with its first smartphone. No wonder the company has already slashed the Essential Phone’s price multiple times already. If you’ve still been on the fence about picking up this handset, perhaps the Cyber Monday price will entice you to spend your money on it. The Essential Phone price has been cut to the lowest-ever for Cyber Monday.

Essential is clearly trying to take advantage of the shopping frenzy that comes with Cyber Monday to move some units of its first smartphones. That’s why it has decided to sell the Essential Phone for $399 on Cyber Monday.

Bear in mind that this is a device with flagship-level specifications. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The handset also features dual 13 megapixel rear cameras and an 8 megapixel front camera.

The Essential Phone can now be purchased at its lowest-ever price of $399 from Amazon. Customers won’t just get the handset itself. For $399, Amazon is also giving them the 4K 360 camera module for the Essential Phone.

Amazon is selling the unlocked version of the Essential Phone so customers won’t be tied to any particular carrier when they purchase this handset. The price is likely limited to purchases made on Cyber Monday and might go back to its previous price of $499.
