Due to the immersive nature of virtual reality (VR) where you don a headset and sometimes headphones that basically blocks out the world around you, it can sometimes feel like a somewhat intimate experience. However over in China, it seems that they’re going for something different by launching a VR theme park.
The 330-acre park will be opening in the Guizhou province where it is expected to house as many as 35 VR attractions. These attractions range from shooters to virtual rollercoasters, as well as virtual “tours” with aliens of the region’s more scenic attractions. Dubbed the Oriental Science Fiction Valley, this project is said to cost around $1.5 billion.
Speaking to Reuters, the theme park’s Chief Executive Chen Jianli said, “After our attraction opens, it will change the entire tourism structure of Guizhou province as well as China’s southwest. This is an innovative attraction, because it’s just different.” The report also goes on to add that the theme park is trying to lure some big names in tech, such as Apple, although given that Apple seems to be more interested in augmented reality, we’re not sure what the company could contribute.
Part of the theme park will be launching in February 2018, whether or not it will be a success or simply a novelty remains to be seen.

One of the new features we’re seeing in cars today is the ability for them to be unlocked remotely through an app, or unlocking without the need for the insertion of a key or a press of the remote, as long as the owner of the car (and the key) is within distance of the vehicle. The goal is presumably convenience, but unfortunately it does raise some security concerns.
If anything this is ringing particularly true after a Mercedes-Benz was stolen in West Midlands, England where the thieves took as little as a minute and did not have to break anything. According to video footage that was released by investigators, it shows two men arriving at the home where the Mercedes was parked.
One of them approaches the front door of the house holding a relay box in his hand, and after waving the box at the front door, the car unlocked. What appears to have happened is that the relay box that was waved at the front door “stole” the signal of the car keys, which was presumably in the house. It then transmitted that signal to a second box next to the car, thus tricking it into thinking that the key is present, and unlocking the car in the process.
All of this took place in under a minute and like we said, the thieves did not have to smash the windows or hot wire the car in order to make off with it. Police have since advised owners of such cars to add an additional layer of safety by using a steering wheel lock.

Through the creation of consumer-grade drones, many doors have opened up when it comes to photography, videography, or just entertainment in general. However as with all technology, there is also the potential that it can be abused, like used for spying on neighbors or getting in the way of the authorities.
This is why drone registration programs are popping up around the world, such as over in the UK where drone owners might have to attend classes. In fact in the UK, a new bill has been proposed where it could potentially give the police more power over drones, such as the ability to seize drones should they believe that the drone is being used illegally, like flying into areas that it shouldn’t have or just getting in the way.
The bill will also enforce the rules that were introduced over the summer, such as drones over 250g in weight will have to be registered, and drone owners having to take a safety awareness test. It would also forbid drones from flying too close to airports or above heights of 400 feet. It seems that these rules are welcomed by the pilots’ union where according to the union, there have been 81 incidents so far this year involving near misses between drones and airplanes.

If you needed more proof that Steam is more or less the de facto gaming platform on the PC, look no further because during the weekend, it appears that Steam’s concurrent users has managed to hit an all-time high of 17 million, shattering its previous record a couple of months ago where it was sitting at 15 million.
As you can see in the chart above, Valve recorded that the highest number of players was at 17,686,886 which is a mighty achievement indeed. Of course this number does dip and swell depending on the time of the day, plus we can only assume that Thanksgiving and Black Friday probably had a hand in that as well, where players had more time to spend gaming than they normally would.
Breaking those numbers down even further, it seems that PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) is still the most popular gaming where it peaked at 2.79 million gamers. This is followed by Dota 2 which clocked in at 814,083 gamers at its peak, followed by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in third place.
We expect that as more games make its way onto the Steam platform, and with plenty of new titles in the works, Steam’s concurrent users will probably break that 17 million mark some time in the future.

If shooting video is something you’re interested in, there are a variety of cameras out there that can get the job done, such as compacts, DSLRs, mirrorless, and so on. However in recent times, Panasonic’s Lumix GH5 has been the one gaining a fair amount of attention, especially when it comes to 4K videos.
In fact it seems that according to a recent report from Photo Rumors, Panasonic could have a small upgrade of the GH5 in the works dubbed the GH5s, or whatever the company plans on calling it. It won’t be a particularly huge upgrade, according to the rumors, so those who bought the GH5 won’t feel like they got cheated.
According to the rumors, the GH5s is expected to be differentiated from the GH5 in term of video, where it will be more capable of shooting in low-light. It is also said to feature “state of the art” video functions, whatever that’s supposed to mean, and could be priced higher than the GH5 as well, which was announced earlier this year where it is currently selling for around $2,000.
The report is also claiming that the GH5s could be announced as soon as next month, or possibly in January 2018, which we suppose makes sense as January 2018 is when CES is kicking off. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but if you’re thinking of getting a camera for videography, then the GH5s could be worth keeping an eye out for.
