Director Sean Baker ripped up the filmmaking rulebook by shooting his Sundance hit Tangerine on an iPhone 5s. Now, over two years since the flick scooped more than seven times its budget at theaters, the Oscars has come knocking. No, the filmmaker is…
While the Nokia 8 is supposed to be the flagship Nokia handset at the moment, we have been hearing rumors that HMD Global could also be working on another handset in the form of the Nokia 9 which has yet to be officially announced. In fact some are saying that the Nokia 9 could be launched in the US in place of the Nokia 8.
That being said, it looks like the rumors could be true, or at least in part. This is because the Nokia 9 has recently been spotted at the FCC (via Slashleaks; via Android Police) where some of its potential specs have been revealed. Assuming the filing is accurate and this is indeed the Nokia 9, we’re looking at a phone with a 5.5-inch display, 128GB of storage, a 3,250mAh battery, and the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset.
We’re also looking at dual 12MP + 13MP rear-facing cameras, a 5MP front-facing camera, and Android 8.0 Oreo. There is unfortunately no word on when the phone will be released, but given that CES 2018 is kicking off next month, there is a chance that Nokia and HMD Global might make an announcement then, if not at MWC 2018, or possibly at an event of their own.
Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled so check back with us in the near future for more updates.

As it stands YouTube has their own music subscription service, but recently we have heard rumors that YouTube could be planning a new service called “Remix”. Whether or not those rumors are true remains to be seen, but there could be some evidence to show that YouTube is indeed working towards that.
According to a report from Bloomberg, YouTube is said to have recently signed a new long-term agreement with both Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, both of whom represent the major labels in the music industry today, along with Warner who according to the previous report, had already signed a deal with YouTube.
This new agreement is said to offer stronger policing of uploads of copyrighted music by non-authorized personnel, and according to Universal, it will help give artists more flexibility and better pay. Sony has yet to confirm the deal and have declined to comment on Bloomberg’s article. The report goes on to suggest that this new deal with the labels will help YouTube pave the way to launch their rumored new music streaming service.
As it stands there are already quite a few streaming services around and YouTube’s rumored new service will no doubt find itself in an extremely competitive space. Whether or not it will have what it takes to compete with the likes of Spotify remains to be seen.

You might recall that back in 2016, Interpol announced that they would turning to the use of AI to help search for child pornography on the web, making it more efficient at trying to rid the internet of such content along with the people who distribute them. Now it looks like the UK’s Metropolitan Police also wants in on the tech as well.
The police have stated that they want to use AI to help identify videos and images on confiscated devices like computers and smartphones. As it stands, the police already have software that can help scan and recognize images such as guns, drugs, and money, but it seems that it isn’t quite as useful when it comes to nudity, which is what the police hope to have in the next 2-3 years.
Ultimately the goal is to help speed up the process of scanning devices, and there is also a benefit to the officers involved, as it could help them avoid seeing such disturbing images on a daily basis which could have some psychological trauma attached to them, according to Mark Stokes, the Met’s head of digital and electronics forensics, who spoke to The Telegraph.
According to Stokes, “We have to grade indecent images for different sentencing, and that has to be done by human beings right now, but machine learning takes that away from humans. You can imagine that doing that for year-on-year is very disturbing.”

Have you ever wanted some fashion advice? Sure, you could ask your parents, your roommate, or your partner on what they think about your outfit, but if you want a more collective response, the Amazon Echo Look launched earlier this year kind of achieves that goal through the use of machine learning algorithms.
However if you think that AI might not be good enough to get the job done and wanted advice from actual fashionistas, you’ll be interested to learn that the Echo Show will now be connecting to Amazon Spark. What this means is that alongside advice that you’ll be getting from AI, the connectivity to Amazon Spark also means you’ll be able to crowdsource fashion advice from Amazon’s own social media platform.
Of course this doesn’t necessarily mean that the advice you’ll be getting will be better, but having more sources means that you’ll have more options to think about. Perhaps an actual human could give you some tips that AI might not be able to do, and maybe you could find a style that works for you.
That being said, fashion just like art is pretty much subjective and what works for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you, but getting a bit of outside advice every now and then probably wouldn’t hurt. In the meantime the Echo Look is still an invite-only program and there is no word on when it will be fully released and available to all.

It goes without saying that Samsung will be launching both the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in 2018 with hardware improvements, but exactly how much of an improvement are we looking at? Thanks to recent benchmarks that have surfaced, we now have an idea of what we might be able to expect from the Galaxy S9+.
The benchmarks don’t mention the Galaxy S9+ by name, but its model number corresponds with the naming scheme that we’ve seen Samsung use in the past. Based on the benchmarks, there are some obvious improvements in terms of performance. The single-core scores of the Galaxy S9+ are about a 27% improvement over the Snapdragon 835 used in the Galaxy S8 and S8+, while its multi-core scores are a 31% improvement over its predecessor.
It is widely assumed that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are expected to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and that they apparently have first dibs on the chipset. It is also said that Samsung could be using the Exynos 9810 chipset in the phones as well, depending on the market, but since the benchmarks mention Qualcomm, we’re not sure how different it could be with the Exynos 9810.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now since benchmarks can sometimes be faked or inaccurate, but if the rumors of a February launch are true, we should have the official details soon enough.

Posted in: Today's ChiliSecurity is one of the thorniest subjects in the Android community. For one, it’s blamed on the fragmentation that makes it difficult to roll out security updates in a timely manner. For another, it is also blamed on the somewhat lax security of the platform itself. The former Fox News host’s fashion-related “tip of the day” didn’t go over so well.
Many headsets today flaunt features like active noise cancellation or even sophisticated audio technologies that let the world’s sounds through while you listen to your music. Such things might be “nice to have” features for audiophiles, but technologies like these are essential to people with less than perfect hearing. Sivantos, the hearing aid company spun off from Siemens, is putting … Continue reading
