BlackBerry To Continue Support For BB10 For At Least Two More Years

In today’s smartphone landscape, it is clear that iOS and Android more or less control the market, whereas back in the day you would have competition from the likes of Windows Phone and Blackberry. However despite iOS and Android being the dominant platforms today, there are still some who might be holding out on older devices.

For those who are still hanging onto their BlackBerry devices that are powered by BB10, you’ll be pleased to learn that BlackBerry has announced that they will be supporting the operating system for at least an additional two more years. “We want to reward your loyalty by committing to providing you with at least two full years of additional support for BB10 and at least two full years of BlackBerry network access for BBOS devices.”

However despite the ongoing support, BlackBerry did announce that they will eventually be shuttering some services. “While we are pleased to announce continuing support for BB10 and BBOS users for at least another two years, current device owners should be aware that we will be closing some ancillary services such as the BlackBerry World app store (12/31/2019), the BlackBerry Travel site (February 2018), and the Playbook video calling service (March 2018).”

BlackBerry has also announced that customers who are interested can also trade-up to a newer BlackBerry handset powered by Android, like the KeyOne or the Motion.

Amazon Prime Video Is The Most Downloaded tvOS App

A couple of weeks ago and after what felt like an eternity, Amazon’s Prime Video app was finally launched on the Apple TV. This is a pretty big deal especially when you consider that Amazon’s app was one of the few major video streaming services that wasn’t available on the Apple TV, and turns out it has been a huge hit.

According to a report from BESTAppleTV.com, it seems that Apple has confirmed that the Amazon Prime Video app is the most downloaded app for tvOS of all time. Yup, apparently it’s the most downloaded of all time, not just for the week it launched, or the month, but of all time, suggesting that this is an app that many, many Apple TV owners have been waiting for.

The confirmation reads, “Prime Video has been a hit with Apple TV customers around the world — it had the most first-week downloads of any app in the history of tvOS.” Unfortunately Apple/Amazon did not provide any specific numbers in terms of downloads, so we’re not sure exactly how many times the app has been downloaded, but for it to break the record does say a lot about its popularity.

So far Amazon has released some Prime-exclusive shows on its service in a bid to make it more attractive, like how Netflix has its own exclusive series of shows and movies.

Canon EOS 7D MK III Expected To Arrive By Summer 2018

So we have been hearing rumors about Canon possibly launching a new DSLR camera in the form of the EOS 7D MK III. Last we heard, it was rumored that it could launch in March 2018, and now according to a report from Canon Watch (via DPreview), it seems to have echoed the previous reports and is suggesting that the camera will launch by the summer of 2018.

Given that the EOS 7D MK II was launched back in 2014, a launch in 2018 makes sense as it would mean that the camera is four years old and is prime for a refresh. Unfortunately in terms of specs, not much is known about what the 7D MK III could pack, although last we heard 4K video is apparently one of the features, although given that even our smartphones can record 4K, it makes sense that the 7D MK III can do that as well.

The earlier report by Canon Rumors had also claimed that the camera could feature a “first time sensor” for Canon, meaning that it could be a brand new sensor not used in previous Canon DSLRs. In any case we guess we’ll have to wait and see when the official announcement is made, which right now seems to be pointing towards the first half of 2018, maybe even at CP+ which takes place in March.

Analytics Firm Estimates Over 1M iPhone 8’s, iPhone X’s Sold Per Day

Apple’s iPhones are probably the most expensive smartphones in the market today (not counting the special edition, jewel-encrusted, leather clad options), but it seems that despite the price, the appeal and allure of owning an iPhone is still there, which might explain why the iPhone is apparently selling so well.

According to data from analytics firm Localytics (via Forbes), it seems that Apple is selling over a combined 1 million units of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X on a daily basis. According to the numbers, the iPhone 8 represents about 2.22% of total iPhones in the market and translates to about 17.5 million sold.

The iPhone 8 Plus appears to be the more popular of the two and represents 2.94% of the iPhone market and is about 23.2 million sold. As for the iPhone X and given that it was released later, it is said to account for 2.63% of the market and represents about 20.7 million units sold. Note that these aren’t official figures so do take it with a grain of salt for now.

This seems to be in line with a report from Mixpanel last week which revealed that towards the end of November, the iPhone X managed to catch up with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in terms of adoption, and outpaced them in December.
