The engineers embedded nanoparticles in the leaves of a watercress plant allowing the plant to give off a dim light for nearly four hours. The team believes that they can improve the technique to make the plant … Continue reading

Oculus Rift Bundle Discounted To $379

When virtual reality (VR) headsets were first launched, they weren’t exactly cheap, not to mention that back then, you would require a pretty powerful PC in order to support it which in turn made the whole process a rather pricey one. These days things are cheaper, and in fact Oculus has decided to make its Oculus Rift bundle cheaper by discounting further.

Until the 20th of December, those who are interested in picking up the Oculus Rift headset will only have to pay $379. Prior to this, the regular price of the headset was at $399, and while it isn’t as cheap as Black Friday’s sales where it was priced at $350, $379 isn’t too bad of a price to ask for those looking for a dedicated VR headset.

However like we said, this deal is only valid until 11:59 pm PT on the 20th of December, 2017, so if you want to take advantage of it you can head on over to Oculus’ website to get your hands on it. For those wondering, the Oculus Rift bundle will include the headset itself, touch controllers for navigation, along with two sensors, although Oculus is recommending that users get a third sensor for full room-scale potential.

Breath Of The Wild’s Director Has ‘Lots Of Ideas’ For Future Zelda Content

Now that the second DLC of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been released, we’re sure many are wondering about the future of the franchise. Is Nintendo working on a new Zelda title? Or could there be more DLCs in the works? It doesn’t seem like it is clear, but the good news is that Nintendo still has plenty of ideas.

Speaking to IGN, Breath of the Wild’s director Hidemaro Fujibayashi stated that at the moment, it is unclear if the future will contain sequels or just a continuation of Breath of the Wild. He was quoted as saying, “I can’t say at this point if it will be in sequels or in continuations, or what form it will take, but I definitely have lots of ideas and lots of motivation right now.”

He also spoke about how Nintendo had approached Zelda differently this time around, where they added DLCs to expand on the world and the content, versus having to start from scratch again. “In the past, we always had to start from zero again, to completion. Usually we’d be thinking, ‘oh, I wish we could add this, we could do that.’ What we couldn’t do in that game, we would start fresh in a new game. But because we did a DLC, we realized it’s a great way to kind of just improve that world, and kind of enhance it, and kind of raise it like your own child.”

So far The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been one of 2017’s most popular games, where it has received near-perfect review scores, so if you haven’t check it out yet perhaps now might be a good time to do so.

Obsidian Entertainment Promises No Microtransactions In Upcoming Game

We’re sure many gamers are missing the good old days where when you buy a game, you get the game and that’s it. These days developers and publishers are looking for ways to milk their customers for more money beyond the initial purchase, and this comes in the form of microtransactions where gamers can pay additional money for things like skins, costumes, powerups, and so on.

This has caused a bit of controversy in recent times, but the good news is that Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming RPG will not have any of that. In a post on its forums, the developer has stated that there will not be microtransactions of any kind in their game. This was made in response to many gamers who were asking them about it, along with the recent controversy surrounding loot boxes and gambling.

Obsidian also speaks about their partnership with Private Division, their publisher (Take-Two’s indie publishing arm) who they say never pushed them into introducing microtransactions to their games. For those unfamiliar with Obsidian, they are the developers behind titles like Fallout: New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansions, Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2, and also South Park: The Stick of Truth.

That being said, Obsidian is just one developer who is taking a stance against microtransactions, Whether or not we’ll see other developers follow suit remains to be seen, but if you are interested in the company’s upcoming RPG, know that you won’t have to worry about microtransactions in it.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Rumored To Pack 3,200mAh Battery

2017’s Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ feature a 3,000mAh and a 3,500mAh battery respectively, which is decently-sized and more or less in line with what most other handset makers are releasing. Now we’re sure that some are probably hoping that 2018’s Galaxy S9 and S9+ could change that, and that appears to be the case, but don’t expect too much.

According to a post on Chinese website Digi.tech.qq.com (via SamMobile), apparently the Galaxy S9 could feature a 3,200mAh battery. There is no mention of the Galaxy S9+, but presumably it will be larger, but exactly by how much remains to be seen. What this means is that if the report is true, the Galaxy S9’s battery will only be 200mAh bigger than its predecessor, which isn’t really that much.

200mAh probably wouldn’t make much of a difference considering the phone will be powered by the latest hardware, although we had previously heard that the new Exynos 9810 chipset is expected to be 15% more power efficient, so perhaps there could be a noticeable difference, but don’t take our word for it.

That being said, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Galaxy S9’s battery wasn’t that much bigger. We had heard that Samsung was planning on keeping the design similar to the Galaxy S8, which means that there isn’t much space for a physically larger battery, but take it with a grain of salt for now and hopefully we’ll have the official details soon enough.

Facebook Clamping Down On ‘Engagement Bait’ Posts

Clickbait articles was a problem that Facebook had not too long ago, and the company was working on ways to try and clamp down on them. However it looks like they’ve got a new “bait” problem in the form of “engagement bait”, which is where posts are created in a way to get people to engage with it.

For example you’ve probably come across posts that are captioned like, “Click LIKE if you think that waffles are better than pancakes!” or posts asking for a different reaction for a different image, like they’re trying to take a poll. This is something that facebook wants to cut down on, and will start pushing posts like these further down the News Feed.

According to the social media company, “People have told us that they dislike spammy posts on Facebook that goad them into interacting with likes, shares, comments, and other actions.” This means that starting from now, posts that are deemed to be “engagement bait” will rank lower in the News Feed, and pages, publishers, and others who use engage in these kind of practices will also see their reach diminished for all their posts.

In a way this is similar to how Google works, in which that users who don’t comply with their rules get ranked lower in search. Hopefully this will reduce the amount of spam that users seed on their feed, but we suppose alternatively users can always unfollow those pages or hide them if this doesn’t work out.
