Top Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi are known very well in a lot of markets across the globe. However, they have yet to make a mark in the United States. That’s because they don’t have the carrier support at this point in time that’s crucial for making it in the U.S. market. That might change in the coming year.
Xiaomi already sells a variety of its products in the country but smartphones aren’t at the top of that list. Xiaomi executive Wang Xiang has previously said that the company is planning to release its smartphones in the United States within two years.
It was recently reported that Huawei is in talks with major mobile carriers in the United States to start selling its smartphones in the country. Xiaomi is reportedly talking to major mobile carriers as well.
Bloomberg reports that Xiaomi is negotiating with carriers like Verizon and AT&T about selling flagship smartphones to customers in the United States as soon as next year.
The talks are said to be in a fluid state at this point in time and there’s a possibility that a deal may not be reached. Nothing is set in stone as yet.
Xiaomi has been one of the fastest-growing smartphone vendors globally over the past few years and it has been able to achieve that position without competing in the lucrative U.S. market. It may consolidate its position further in the market once it properly brings its handsets to the U.S.

We’ve seen some pretty cool mechanical LEGO creations over the years. Here’s another one worth checking out. I was recently turned onto the work of LEGO expert builder Yoshihito Isogawa by the fine folks over at The Kid Should See This. Isogawa makes all kinds of cool builds using LEGO, Technic and Mindstorms components, including this strange looking contraption.
What you’re looking at here is a hanging construction that can be maneuvered thanks to the wonders of gyroscopic motion. Basically, the machine uses a pair of motors, and gear mechanisms to allow the green spinning gear in the middle to rotate on multiple axes. As the gear spins rapidly in a circle, moving it along another axis causes the entire thing to steer.
Isogawa was inspired by a real-world device called a “Sky Juster,” a crane which is used to move loads to the top of skyscrapers to help fight against wind currents and keep loads stable. It’s a really cool idea, and unlike any other LEGO build I’ve seen before. Definitely check out the video if you have a couple of minutes to spare.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is without a doubt one of the hottest multiplayer games of this year. It was released as a console launch exclusive on Xbox One in the Xbox Game Preview program earlier this week. It’s the first time that this popular game has made it to a gaming console. Xbox fans have been excited to get their hands on it as it racked up more than one million players on Xbox One in its first 48 hours. Microsoft has now confirmed that for a limited time, every Xbox One X purchase will receive a free copy of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
The Xbox Game Preview program enables players to preview and purchase work-in-progress digital games. This lets them participate in the development process and help the developers improve their creations. PUBG will continue to receive improvements in the months to come alongside new content and optimizations.
Microsoft has now announced a special holiday promotion in which every Xbox One X purchase will come with a free copy of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This promotion is available for select regions starting December 17th through December 31st.
The company advises customers to check with their local retailers for more information about this limited time promotion, including their local Microsoft Store, whether they purchase the console in a physical store or online.
The Xbox One X is the most powerful gaming console available on the market today. It costs $499.
