Facebook’s Snooze Button Lets You Temporarily Mute Your Friends

We’re sure from time to time, you come across posts from your friends or Facebook Pages or People that you follow that can get annoying or obnoxious. Sure, there is the option of unfollowing them or unfriending them, but if you’d rather not go to those extremes, then you’ll be pleased to learn that Facebook has a happy middle solution: a Snooze button.

Back in September it was reported that Facebook was testing out a Snooze button, which is basically a way to temporarily mute your friends and pages or people that you follow, and Facebook’s recent announcement means that the feature is now available to all users and could be worth checking out if you’d like a little reprieve from certain people.

According to Facebook, “With Snooze, you don’t have to unfollow or unfriend permanently, rather just stop seeing someone’s posts for a short period of time. The people, Pages, and groups you snooze will not be notified. You will be notified before the Snooze period is about to end and the setting can also be reversed at any time.”

That being said, there are other ways that users can prevent certain posts from showing, such as through the “Hide” feature which teaches Facebook that these are posts you’re not interested in, which in turn will hide similar posts from your News Feed in the future.

Apple Watch Saves Man’s Life By Alerting Him To A Heart Attack

Over the years ever since the first Apple Watch was released, we’ve been hearing stories about how the device has saved the lives of quite a few of its users, such as alerting them to impending heart attacks. In fact just a new report from 9to5Mac will see the Apple Watch chalk up another life saved.

The report tells the story of Scott Killian, who before turning 50 underwent a barrage of health tests to make sure that he is healthy and to rule out any health concerns that might be associated with his age. The tests all came back with good news which basically cleared him, but then one night when he was sleeping, his Apple Watch, which he wears to sleep to track his sleeping patterns, alerted him via a third-party app called HeartWatch that his resting heart rate was elevated during his sleep.

Killian also experienced some mild indigestion which are signs of a potential heart attack, which prompted him to visit the emergency room as a precaution. The hospital then tested him using an EKG but the reports came back normal, despite the fact that his Apple Watch still reported that his heart rate was elevated. It was only after they took a blood test that it was discovered an elevated enzyme that signals that a heart attack has occurred or is occurring.

Speaking to 9to5Mac, Killian said what his surgeon told him was remarkable, “He said had I kept sleeping, I probably wouldn’t have woken up. I would have died in my sleep.”

Apple Reportedly Inks A Deal For A Sci-Fi TV Series

While Apple might not necessarily be the brand or company you think of when it comes to TV series or movies, but that’s something the company is hoping to change like they did with music and iTunes. Initially reported by Deadline and subsequently confirmed by Variety, it looks like Apple customers can expect a new sci-fi TV series in the future.

The report is claiming that Apple has inked a deal with Ronald D. Moore in which Moore will be creating a sci-fi TV series for the Cupertino company. For those unfamiliar, Moore is the showrunner for Starz series “Outlander” and had previously helped develop the new version  of “Battlestar Galactica”, and has also worked on other sci-fi series like “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” and “Star Trek: Voyager.”

The new series will be created by Moore together with Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, with the series being produced by Sony and Tall Ship Productions. So far Apple’s video efforts haven’t exactly been particularly huge hits. “Carpool Karaoke” was basically established before Apple bought the rights to it, and based on reviews so far, “Planet of the Apps” hasn’t exactly been well-received.

However given Moore’s experience and work on other sci-fi series, hopefully this latest effort will yield some fruit. No word on when the series will be launched, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information.

Inbox Testing Way For Users To Unsubscribe Emails They Don’t Read

From time to time we receive promo emails from companies whose services or products we’ve used in the past, and this can be rather annoying and can clutter up our inboxes. Sure, they could be marked as spam, but that could complicate things if you do decide to use those services again in the future, which means that unsubscribing to them is the best way.

Sometimes unsubscribing isn’t so obvious, but Google wants to make it easier for users of its Inbox email service. According to Android Police, Google appears to be testing a new feature in Inbox where when it detects that you have not been opening/reading certain emails for an extended period of time, it will suggest that you unsubscribe to it via an integrated unsubscribe button.

As you can see in the screenshot above, users can choose to ignore the option and allow those emails to keep coming in. However this feature appears to be in testing at the moment which means that you may or may not see it available to you. It also appears to be a feature on both the user’s desktop and mobile app, so depending on where you access Inbox, you should be able to access the functionality.

No word on when Google plans to roll out this feature to the masses, but it does seem like a rather quick and convenient way of unsubscribing to emails you no longer way.
