Disney Confirms $52 billion Deal For Fox’s TV And Film Studios

It was recently reported that Disney was in talks to acquire 21st Century Fox’s film and TV studios. If one was reached, it would have been a massive deal. It was expected that a formal announcement might be made by today and that’s precisely what has happened. Disney has confirmed that it’s acquiring 21st Century Fox’s TV and film studios for more than $52 billion.

It was first reported back in early November and Disney and Fox were in talks about a potential deal. The talks reportedly fell through a few weeks later. However, it was reported once again earlier this month that the talks were back on and now a formal announcement has been made today.

This $52 billion deal will give Disney control of the 20th Century Fox movie studio, the 20th Century Fox Television production division, and cable networks owned by Fox which include National Geographic and FX. Even Fox’s stakes in international networks like Star TV and Sky are covered under this deal.

That’s not all. Disney is also going to end up with a majority control of streaming service Hulu. Fox has a 30 percent stake in Hulu and that will now bump up Disney’s total stake in Hulu to 60 percent, giving it control of the entity. This will reduce Comcast and Time Warner to minority stakeholders in Hulu with stakes of 30 percent and 10 percent respectively.

Disney will also be taking ownership of 21st Century Fox’s vast library of intellectual property which includes comic book characters like the X-Men.

Galaxy S9 Bezels May Not Be As Slim As Expected

Samsung introduced the Infinity Display with the Galaxy S8 earlier this year. It was a proper effort on the company’s part to introduce its flagship smartphones to the “bezel-less” club. Recent reports about the successor have suggested that it’s going to have even slimmer bezels. However, if a new rumor is believed, the Galaxy S9’s bezels may not be as slim as previously expected.

According to a source out of China, who has been right on multiple accounts in the past, one of Samsung’s design prototypes for the Galaxy S9 has not passed the test. Apparently, it was this prototype which had the slimmer bezels compared to the Galaxy S8.

If the information is accurate, it means that the Galaxy S9 is going to look largely similar to its predecessor, as far as the front of the device and its bezels are concerned.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. The Galaxy S8 has one of the best designs that you can find on an Android flagship in 2017. It has been very well received so Samsung fans won’t likely be opposed to the idea of the Galaxy S9 looking similar to its predecessor.

Even the aspect ratio of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ displays is expected to remain the same as this year’s flagship handsets so there’s every reason to believe that Samsung won’t be shooting for any major design changes.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S9 in the first quarter of next year.

Gigantic Magic 8 Ball Still Won’t Tell You What You Want to Hear

When I was a kid, I went through my share of those Magic 8 Ball toys. I think I ended up cracking open three or four of them to see what they looked like inside, and what the heck that dark liquid was that made the fortune thing float around. I just ended up making a mess of things, and everything ended up in the trash can. Why couldn’t it have predicted that, and told me my fortune with something like “You will destroy your Magic 8 Ball, and Mom won’t buy you another one this time.

I can only imagine the mess I would have made if I were given one of these giant-sized Magic 8 Balls as a child.

This larger-than-life version of the fortune teller ball measures a whopping 10″ in diameter – about 2.5 times larger than the standard model. It’s still filled with that disgusting blue dye, and a 20-sided die bobbling about with such vague advice as “Reply Hazy Try Again,” “Ask Again Later,” and “Better Not Tell You Now.” Gee thanks, that was sooooo helpful. I think I’ll get the hammer out and crack you open so your guts spill everywhere… stupid 8 Ball.

If you like your balls big, and your fortunes frustrating, head over to ThinkGeek now, where you can grab the Giant Magic 8 Ball for $25.

The Galaxy S9 must fix these three big S8 flaws

2017 had a bumper crop of smartphones, but the mobile world refuses to slow, and all eyes are on the Samsung Galaxy S9 in 2018. The company’s flagship consumer phone – since, it would likely argue, the Galaxy Note 8 and its eventual successor are targeted at prosumers – has big shoes to fill, coming on the heels of the … Continue reading
