Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone was one that many were looking forward to, given Rubin’s experience and background with Android and his involvement with Danger Inc., the company that created the Sidekick which was one of the more iconic smartphones from back in the day, thanks to its design and its prominent use by celebrities.
Unfortunately so far it’s starting to look like the Essential Phone isn’t having the same amount of success. It has been recently estimated that only around 50,000 units of the Essential Phone have been sold to date. This is based on the number of installs of the Essential Camera app from the Google Play Store, which admittedly might not necessarily be the most accurate.
However its popularity (or lack of) seems to be in line with an earlier report from several months ago, where it was said that only 5,000 units were sold, although the jump from 5,000 to 50,000 does seem suspect, leading us to conclude that perhaps maybe the actual figure could be potentially higher.
Then again, we have been seeing how Essential has been somewhat aggressively lowering the price of the smartphone, which we can only imagine could be in a bid to encourage sales of a device that might not be selling so well. We suppose only time will tell on how well the phone will perform, but for now the reports don’t seem too upbeat.

Google Maps is great for public transport directions, like in countries such as Japan where it can tell you which train to take, where to change trains, and so on to get to your destination. However sometimes when you’re in a foreign country or an area you’re unfamiliar, sometimes these directions aren’t enough.
However according to a report from TechCrunch (via 9to5Google), it appears that Google is testing out a new feature for Google Maps on Android, where it will provide users with real-time updates in the app, along with notifications so that you know when to get off the bus or train, depending on your mode of transport.
This will come in handy if like we said, you’re unfamiliar with the area and can’t recognize any landmarks, or if you’re sleepy and would love to sleep during the trip and not miss your stop. However it seems that the feature is currently in testing, which means that we’re not even sure if this is something that Google wants to forge ahead with.
It also means that not everyone might see it enabled for them, so fret not if you don’t see it or if you’re not part of the tester community. However it is an interesting idea and we expect that Google should eventually roll out the feature to all Google Maps users.

One of the ways to avoid getting malware or malicious software installed on your computer is to avoid shady websites and also to not open suspicious emails with attachments. While there are more complex ways to install malware onto computers, the method we just mentioned are some of the basic steps users can take to protect themselves.
However it seems that sometimes it can be completely out of the user’s hands. According to security research Michael Myng (via BBC), he has recently discovered that some of HP’s laptops came with a hidden keylogger installed on the computer (again). For those unfamiliar, keyloggers are basically pieces of software that can record your keystrokes on your computer, such as recording your usernames, passwords, email addresses, phone numbers, chat messages, and so on.
The affected HP laptops include the EliteBook, ProBook, Pavilion, and Envy series of laptops, and according to the list that HP has published, it dates back to computers from 2012. The company has since acknowledged the issue, which they claim came from Synaptics software that was used to help debug problems, not spying.
They have also since released a software patch that will remove the keylogger. In a statement HP made, “HP uses Synaptics’ touchpads in some of its mobile PCs and has worked with Synaptics to provide fixes to their error for impacted HP systems, available via the security bulletin on HP.com.”

Blizzard’s Diablo 3 was originally released in 2012 and its expansion following in 2014, meaning that the game is about 5 years old and could be due for a refresh. In fact there have been rumors that a Diablo 4 could be in the works, and analysts at Goldman Sachs are predicting that the game will most likely arrive by 2020 alongside Overwatch 2.
According to Goldman Sachs analyst Christopher Merwin, “We are raising our 2019 and 2020 estimates on account of a robust multi-year pipeline of games — Diablo, Overwatch 2, and a Blizzard mobile title — which we don’t think Street estimates are fully taking into account.” We’re not sure what Merwin means by Overwatch 2, and whether or not he means a full blown sequel, or if we’re talking about an expansion.
Given how much Blizzard has built up Overwatch since its release, with animated shorts, comics, and stories, it’s starting to feel like they’re approaching the game similar to World of Warcraft, where new content will be added with patches and an expansion. Also given that it is largely multiplayer, we’re not sure how different a sequel could be since we doubt that Blizzard will be throwing in campaigns (or could they?).
Either way we’ll just have to wait and see how this one turns out, but if you are indeed looking forward to a new Diablo game, which the current version has grown rather long in the tooth, then it seems that you’ll have a bit of waiting to do.

With iOS devices, when you make a phone call using your iPhone, you also have the option to turn on FaceTime assuming that the other user has FaceTime enabled. This is something that Google is trying to do with Duo as we have seen from an previous APK teardown, where Google is looking to integrate Duo with Android’s Phone app.
Now according to a report from Android Police, it seems that Google has finally integrated Duo into the Phone app. It does not seem like there needs to be any action taken on the user’s end because according to the report, the video call button just shows up. Switching to a Duo call is pretty straightforward and all users have to do is tap the button and it will launch the Duo app instantly.
However it should be noted that switching to a Duo call means that the original voice call will end if the user accepts the call, so that’s something to take in mind. If the call is ignored and not answered, then the app will just switch back to the phone’s in-call screen. Android Police claims that in their testing, the swap is rather seamless and doesn’t seem to have any gap in the audio, but your mileage may vary depending on your network and also internet.
