OnePlus 4th anniversary promos doesn’t include red OnePlus 5T

It’s hard to believe that OnePlus is already four years in the market. Although you might think they’re already five years old based on the model numbers (yes, they skipped “4”). In that short span a time, OnePlus has managed to squeeze itself into the top tier smartphones of each year. It wasn’t smooth-sailing, of course, especially for a company … Continue reading

Instagram Testing Putting Posts In Your Feed That You Might Like

If you head on over to the Explore section of Instagram, you will discover a variety of posts that might seem random, but are actually based on posts that Instagram thinks you like based on posts that you’ve previously liked, or based on the people you follow. Now it looks like Instagram is testing bringing some of those features into your main feed.

This is according to a report from The Verge in which Instagram has confirmed that they are indeed testing the feature out. According to Instagram, “We’re always testing new ways to connect you to interesting content on Instagram.” Whether or not this feature will make the final cut remains to be seen since Instagram does test out features from time to time.

While this is an interesting idea, we reckon that it does seem to have potential to clutter the user’s feed, which right now is interspersed with posts from people they follow, sponsored content, and also preview tiles for Stories. The addition of recommended content could make things more confusing, but like we said, the feature is in testing so perhaps it will eventually be refined further.

Last we checked, Instagram was also testing out other features like a native “regramming” button that has yet to be released. The company also recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to follow hashtags, a feature that was spotted in testing just last month.

Apple Increases Mac Trade-In Values Up To $2,500

If you’re looking to get a new computer and don’t know what to do with your old one, Apple offers a trade-in program where Mac users can trade-in their older Mac computer for a new one, where they could previously get up to $1,500 in trade-in value. We say “previously” because the good news is that the value of the trade-in has been increased.

In partnership with buyback company Phobio, Apple has increased the value of select Mac models (released in 2009 or later) from $1,500 to up to $2,500. Note that you won’t get the full $2,500 all the time, and it won’t be applicable to all Mac computers. The maximum $2,500 value is for iMacs and MacBook Pros, and presumably it would have to feature a high-end configuration and be in relatively good condition.

Other Mac computers covered by the trade-in include the MacBook which can fetch up to $1,110; the MacBook Air that will get up to $430 in trade-in value; and the Mac Pro that will get customers up to $1,560. If you are interested in trading in your old Mac computer, you can actually head on over to Phoboio’s website, enter your Mac’s serial number, answer some questions regarding its condition, and you’ll be given a rough estimate on how much you could get.

The final payment will only be given once your Mac has been fully inspected, and the payment can be received in the form of an Apple Store gift card, a PayPal deposit, or a virtual prepaid Visa card.

Phil Schiller Claims iPhone X Seemed ‘Impossible’ At Some Point

Over the years we’ve seen the iPhone’s design evolve, but for the most part there was a feeling of consistency, thanks in part to the home button which has been present for pretty much every iPhone since its inception. That is at least until the iPhone X came about, where not only did Apple ditch the home button, but also the Touch ID security feature as well.

However it seems that during the development of the iPhone X, there was a point in time that Apple felt that it was an “impossible” device. This is according to a recent interview that Apple exec Phil Schiller did with T3. Schiller was quoted as saying, “At the time, at the beginning, it seemed almost impossible. Not just almost. It seemed impossible. And to pull off what feels impossible and make it possible – and not only that, but just something we love using – is just a great achievement.”

Schiller also went on to state that creating a top-to-bottom screen for the iPhone with no home button also felt like a gamble that Apple had to commit themselves to. “That’s an exciting moment, when you have to sort of… the old saying: ‘Burn the boats. Leave the past behind, and commit.’ Knowing that the team was willing to make that gamble was a key point early enough in the process.”

There have been some rumors in the past suggesting that Apple was considering an in-display fingerprint sensor for the iPhone X, although Apple has since confirmed that Touch ID was never an option for the iPhone X, and that they had been planning on using Face ID very early on in development.

Facebook’s Augmented Reality ‘World Effects’ Will Arrive On Messenger

By now it seems that Facebook has no qualms when it comes to copying some of Snapchat’s features. The company already borrowed features like Stories and brought it to apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook, and now it looks like Facebook wants to borrow some augmented reality (AR) features as well.

The company has recently announced that they will be rolling out “World Effects” to its Messenger platform over the next few days. World Effects is going to be similar to Snapchat’s World Lenses, which allows users to use AR to place objects in their camera frame to take some interesting photos.

In addition to launching World Effects, Facebook also plans to open up AR Studio to developers that will hopefully encourage them to create more AR-based experiences for Facebook users. According to Facebook director Ficus Kirkpatrick, “We want artists, developers, brands and more creators to be able to build and share amazing AR experiences,. By opening AR Studio to all creators, we’re taking steps towards making AR more a part of everyday life.”

So far it seems that Facebook has been enjoying quite a bit of success with the features that they’ve borrowed from Snapchat, so we wouldn’t be surprised if World Effects were to launch to the same success.

Moon Is A Floating Smart Home Security Camera

The problem with some home security cameras is that they tend to focus on one area and point in one direction. Sure, some can move, but because of wires/cables or its placement, it doesn’t offer 360-degree surveillance. Now if 360-degree surveillance is something you might be interested in, then perhaps Moon might be a home security camera you could check out.

Launched on Indiegogo, as you can see in the video above it is pretty clear how Moon differs from the competition. It is a spherical camera that floats on its base, defying gravity in the process. What this means is that the camera can spin around fully and can capture everything in its surroundings.

While it won’t be able to capture 360-degree video at once, the fact that it can float and spin about allows it to cover a wide area, so placing it in the middle of the room will let it capture footage from all around it. Other features of the Moon include a built-in infrared blaster that lets you control other devices. There is also a built-in microphone that can detect all kinds of sounds.

If this sounds like something you’d like to furnish your home with, Moon is currently priced at $224 which is 32% off its regular price of $330, so head on over to Indiegogo for the details.
