An AI wrote its own Harry Potter fan fiction: read it here

Artificial intelligence has been used to write poems, generate rap, transform doodles into proper artwork and create realistic photos from nothing. How about writing actual stories, though? That’s just what Botnik Studios’ own creation did, using what it learned from the official Harry Potter books to create its own chapter based on them. These pages are noncanonical, of course, but … Continue reading

Apple’s iMac Pro Will Be Available December 14, 2017

We have been hearing reports that despite us being in the second week of December, that the iMac Pro is still on track for a release by the end of the year. The good news is that if you were eyeing the computer, you’ll be pleased to learn that Apple has confirmed the iMac Pro’s availability for the 14th of December, 2017.

This is according to an update on Apple’s website in which they list the iMac Pro has being available on the 14th of December, which is this Thursday. The iMac Pro, for those hearing about this for the first time, is a beast of a computer and is basically an AIO solution for professional users who need the power and the compactness that an AIO offers.

It will feature a ton of new features, such as a new dark finish which unfortunately appears to be an iMac Pro exclusive for now (along with accessories that are similarly themed), new “enhanced” stereo speakers that will offer up better sound quality, advanced thermal management, support for up to 128GB of RAM, and it is even powerful enough where thanks to its new Vega GPU, you could use it to power virtual reality systems.

Unfortunately all of this does not come cheap with a price tag starting at $4,999. Apple has since sent out review units to several journalist and YouTubers, so you can check out some of the video reviews below if you’re interested.

10 Million Nintendo Switch Units Have Been Sold Worldwide

A couple of months ago, Nintendo announced that the Switch had sold around 7.6 million units worldwide, and that they had raised their estimates to 14 million sold within its first year, which if they manage to achieve, would have beaten the Wii U’s lifetime sales. It looks like Nintendo is well on track because according to the company’s announcement, the Switch has managed to sell 10 million units worldwide to date.

Nintendo’s previous announcement came towards the end of October, which means from then until now, the company has managed to shift over 2 million units of the console. This is also despite the fact that unlike many companies that are looking to take advantage of the Black Friday shopping spree, Nintendo did not discount the console, although we can only imagine that they would have sold much more if they did.

According to Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime, “As you can see in people’s living rooms, on a plane or riding the subway, fans all over the world can enjoy playing Nintendo Switch wherever they go. The response from fans has been great, and we’re doing our very best to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season.”

The Switch’s success is certainly a stark contrast to that of the Wii U, where we’re seeing much more support for the console, and where it even has been awarded the honor of being named TIME’s Top Gadget of 2017.

Avis To Test Unlocking Rental Cars Using Smartphones

We have heard of how there are some hotels in some parts of the world where they are testing out features where guests can check themselves into their room using their phone, which in turn also acts as a key. It turns out that car rental company Avis is also interested in similar tech that can be applied to rental cars.

According to its press release (via Roadshow), Avis has teamed up with Continental where they will be applying Continental’s Key-as-a-Service (KaaS) technology to some of its rental cars. The test will be kicking off in Kansas City where according to Larry De Shon, president and chief executive officer, Avis Budget Group, it will help lay the foundation for a potential future involving keyless car rental.

De Shon was quoted as saying, “Our partnership with Continental helps us deliver the next generation of mobility solutions and lays the foundation for entirely keyless car rental. Keyless car rental not only offers customers the ultimate in convenience and personalization, but it also enables us to accelerate our offerings into new markets as we continue to innovate the overall car rental experience.”

What this could mean for future car rentals is that you will be able to sign up for a car rental via the web or through your smartphone, and once approved you’ll just need to go straight to the car and will be able to unlock it without having to go to the car rental company’s office, which should make it considerably more convenient for travellers.
