You Can Now Purchase Atari’s Speakerhat

Are headphones too troublesome of you? Are they took bulky? Easily falling out? Afraid you might misplace them? Well the good news is that Atari has a solution for you in the form of the Atari Speakerhat, which in case you didn’t already figure out, is a hat that comes with built-in speakers.

The “device” was announced earlier this year and it seemed like it might have been an April Fool’s joke/prank, but it is indeed very well. In fact if you’re so inclined, it seems that Atari has finally put the Speakerhat up for sale where if you’re so inclined, you’ll be able to get your hands (and head) on one.

The Speakerhat is priced at $130, but until the 2nd of January, 2018, Atari is knocking off $30 the price tag, meaning that you’ll be able to get it for $100. There are a couple of designs to choose from, such as hats emblazoned with the Atari word or logo, and there’s even a limited edition Pong version and a Blade Runner 2049 version, all of which are also priced at $130 RRP.

Now we can’t speak to the audio quality of the speakers, but given their size, you probably shouldn’t expect too much. However if you love collecting quirky things or have a feeling that this could skyrocket in value some day, go ahead to Atari’s website to place your order.

Detective Pikachu Movie Will Be Released May 10, 2019

We have been hearing about the upcoming Detective Pikachu movie for a while now, but details about the movie such as its story and also when it will be released have eluded us. While the storyline of the movie is still something of a mystery, it seems that at the very least we have a release date.

Universal Pictures has recently confirmed that the movie will be released on the 10th of May, 2019. This means that we have a little over a year of waiting to go. So far what we know about the movie is that it will be a live-action Pokemon movie and will feature Pikachu as one of the lead characters.

Pikachu will be motion-captured and digitally inserted into the movie, and last we heard, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds is expected to play the role, although we can’t be sure how that is going to work out. Pikachu for the most part never talks in the game or the anime series, and so hearing him speak with Reynolds’ potentially voicing him will be quite an experience for long-time fans of the franchise.

In any case we guess we’ll have to wait until the movie’s release to see how well it does, but in the meantime anyone else have high hopes for it?

New Zealand Finds That Loot Boxes Aren’t Legally Considered Gambling

There is an ongoing debate right now regarding loot boxes and microtransactions in video games. Some feel that because there is no guarantee of what you’ll get in a loot box that when you pay money for it, it is constituted as gambling. However not everyone feels that way, such as New Zealand’s own gambling regulator.

Speaking to Gamasutra, New Zealand’s Gambling Compliance office of its Department of Internal Affairs said that, “the Department is of the view that loot boxes do not meet the legal definition of gambling.” Of course whether or not it meets the legal definition is one thing, but recently a 19-year old penned a long open letter to EA speaking about the effects that loot boxes and microtransactions had on his life, and not in a positive way either.

However loot boxes and microtransactions are a popular way for developers and publishers to make money these days, beyond just selling a copy of the game. We’ve seen how titles like Candy Crush have managed to rake in hundreds of thousands of dollars just from selling in-game items alone, so as you can imagine, they’ll want to milk it for all its worth.

In any case we suppose only time will tell if the authorities will want to do something about it, or if maybe developers themselves will take action.

Stardew Valley’s Multiplayer Beta Has Been Delayed

Popular indie game Stardew Valley has been pretty much a single-player experience from the get-go. However the developer announced that they would be introducing a multiplayer mode to the game, something that we’re sure many gamers are waiting to check out. In fact the multiplayer beta was expected to kick off by the end of the year.

Unfortunately it looks like that will no longer be happening. According to an update on the Stardew Valley website, the developer has announced that the beta will be delayed. According to the post, “We had been planning to launch a multiplayer beta before the end of this year, but we’re pushing that beta back to Q1 2018 in order to make room for polish and QA.”

We suppose that is a fair reason for the delay, although we’re not sure if the delay of the multiplayer beta could also mean a delay for the actual release, which at the moment is still anyone’s guess. In the meantime the developer had also previously announced that they are working on more single-player content, so hopefully that will be enough to tide gamers over until the multiplayer feature is released, which at the moment still does not have a specific release date.

Teaser For 2018 Animated Pokemon Movie Released

Fans of Pokemon have probably heard that there are a couple of new Pokemon-related movies in the pipeline. For instance there is the live-action Detective Pikachu movie, which last we heard was scheduled for a release in 2019. However if you didn’t want to wait so long, then you might be interested in next year’s animated Pokemon movie.

In fact it seems that a teaser for the upcoming movie has been released which gives us a glimpse as to what we can expect. Now if you’ve watched the trailer and you’re wondering how come it looks a little different, at least compared to other animated Pokemon movies, it is because Attack on Titan’s Wit Studio has a hand in its production, alongside OLM who has handled previous releases.

The film’s new character designs are handled by Shizue Kaneko, while Kunihio Yuyama has been credited as the movie’s animation supervisor, with Tetsuo Yajima directing it, where he also helped direct the Pokemon XY series and also handled this year’s anniversary movie. We have to say that the movie is looking pretty good and we can’t wait to see it. It is currently set for a release on the 13th of July, 2018 in Japan, although we’re not sure when the movie will find its way to other parts of the world.
