iOS 11’s Adoption Rate Hits 59%

According to the latest figures on Apple’s developer page, it seems that iOS 11’s adoption has managed to hit 59% in less than half a year since its release. This is a slight increase from the previous month in which iOS 11 was at 52%, and while that’s impressive, it isn’t quite as impressive as its predecessor.

iOS 10 seemed to be adopted a lot faster than iOS 11, like in January 2017 where it was sitting at over 70%, so unless we see a sudden uptick in iOS 11 installs, by all accounts it looks like iOS 11 is lagging behind. However if we had to venture a guess, chances are this might be due to the fact that iOS 11 seems to have had very buggy releases.

For example it seemed that the update caused quite a few issues with some very basic functions, such as with the calculator app, and also a couple of buggy instances with autocorrect. Users have also claimed that the update to iOS 11 has slowed their phones down, caused excessive battery drain, and more, which is why it is understandable that not many are rushing to update their operating system.

Hopefully this is something that will address in future updates, and maybe something they’ll pay more attention to in iOS 12 which should be launched in 2018.

OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition Will Arrive For Scandinavian Markets

A couple of days ago, OnePlus officially took the wraps off the OnePlus 5T Star Wars edition. There have been rumors about the handset which were confirmed when the phone was officially revealed, although at the time of unveiling, it seemed that the handset was limited to India. However the good news is that it appears that it will be launching in other markets as well.

It seems that OnePlus will also be bringing the Star Wars version of the OnePlus 5T to several Scandinavian markets, which includes Finland. Sweden, and Denmark. A popup launch event has been scheduled to take place at the Helsinki Tennis Palace on the 13th of December at 4PM local time, after which the following day will see the phone made available through physical Elisa stores and also the company’s official e-commerce website.

So far the Star Wars edition has been officially unveiled for India, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark, and there is no mention of whether it will find its way to Europe, other parts of Asia, or North America, but for the sake of Star Wars fans, hopefully it will. For those learning about this for the first time, the Star Wars edition is basically the OnePlus 5T with a fresh coat of paint.

It will feature some red accents along its physical buttons, a Star Wars logo at the bottom, and presumably Star Wars-related content, like wallpapers, ringtones, and so on. Other than that, the phone is expected to exactly the same hardware-wise as the normal OnePlus 5T.

YouTube To Deploy More Human Moderators To Combat Abuse

YouTube has been having a bit of a content problem in recent times, where it seems that with some clever maneuvering, some content creators have managed to upload some rather disturbing videos. YouTube has stated several times that they will be cracking down on this, and in their latest blog post, they share some of the details on how.

One of those ways would be to hire more human moderators. While filters can help to catch certain videos, like we said, manipulation on the video and its title can sometimes make it past the filters, which is where human moderators come in and can catch things that sometimes the computer can’t.

According to  YouTube, “We will continue the significant growth of our teams into next year, with the goal of bringing the total number of people across Google working to address content that might violate our policies to over 10,000 in 2018. At the same time, we are expanding the network of academics, industry groups and subject matter experts who we can learn from and support to help us better understand emerging issues.”

Granted humans might not be as efficient as we need rest, we take breaks, and sometimes we get careless, but hopefully the combined efforts of filters, AI, and human moderators can help make YouTube a safer place for everyone.

Amazon Claims Its Australian Launch Was Its ‘Biggest Opening Day Ever’

While Amazon might ship to most parts of the world, sometimes shipping can be slow and expensive due to Amazon not having local fulfilment centers. However for those living in Australia, you might have heard that Amazon has since expanded its operations in the country by launching its own fulfilment center in Dandenong in the state of Victoria.

In fact it seems that launching Australia proved to be a good choice by Amazon, because according to the company, they are boasting that the opening day in Australia was its biggest opening day ever. This is according to Rocco Braeuniger, Country Manager of Amazon Australia who said, “We are thankful to Australian customers for making this a landmark day in Amazon history. From early in the day, we experienced visitor numbers that far exceeded our expectations.”

At launch Amazon Australia will offer 23 different product categories that customers can shop in, such as Books, Music, Clothing & Accessories, Consumer Electronics, Kitchenware, and more. We expect that Amazon will expand on those product categories as time moves on. Braeuniger adds, “We will be working hard today and in the long term to continue to enhance our offering and to provide customers with an ever-increasing selection of products at low prices.”

Amazon is also expected expected to eventually bring its Prime service to Australia next year, so it could help make things speedier and cheaper for residents in the country and also possibly its neighbors, like New Zealand.
