Google Expands On Safe Browsing Protection For Android Apps

With millions of websites out there today, it is clear that not all of them are safe, and that there are various websites, mobile applications, and so on that do not always respect your privacy and could be collecting your personal information without your consent. Companies like Google are doing their part in protecting you as best they can.

In fact Google has recently announced that they’ll be expanding its Safe Browsing feature to cover Android apps and websites. Safe Browsing isn’t a new feature, but Google’s announcement is basically an expansion of the feature where according to Google, “will show warnings on apps and on websites leading to apps that collect a user’s personal data without their consent.”

Google adds, “Starting in 60 days, this expanded enforcement of Google’s Unwanted Software Policy may result in warnings shown on user devices via Google Play Protect or on webpages that lead to these apps.” Google also claims that this policy will apply to apps on the Google Play Store and also those on non-Play stores, although the latter will be harder to enforce, but the warnings/prompts that users see could be enough to encourage developers to comply anyway.

Developers who are interested in ensuring their apps and websites comply can head on over to the Unwanted Software Policy’s page and check it out.
