CES 2018 is around the corner and we expect that many companies will have brand new products and technology that they can’t wait to show off. If you’ve been a fan of Sony’s mobile efforts, then you might be interested to learn that the company could be announcing a new flagship smartphone at the event.
This is according to a post from Chinese publication MyDrivers (via PhoneRadar) in which they report that Sony has sent out invites to a media event during CES. This would seem to suggest that Sony has new products to announce, but given that Sony’s portfolio ranges from headphones, to televisions, to speakers, consoles, and more, it’s hard to say for sure if a smartphone is one of the products they will unveil.
In addition, the report claims that the upcoming Sony flagship smartphone is also expected to pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Even if there weren’t any leaks, it would have been a safe assumption that most companies would probably use Qualcomm’s latest chipset for their flagship phones, and Sony would be no exception.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we should find out for ourselves in the next couple of weeks. That being said, we should remind you guys that as far as Sony’s mobile efforts are concerned, the company has reduced their focus on certain markets such as India, China, and the US, so we can’t be sure that even if the phone were to be launched, it would find its way stateside.

One of the concerns that people have about their elderly parents living alone is that sometimes accidents can happen and no one will know. For example slipping and falling in the bathroom is one of the more common accidents that happen at home, and sometimes this can result in the situation getting worse when not tended to in time.
However according to a recently discovered patent, it seems that HTC might have an idea on how to solve that which is by creating a lightbulb that has the ability to detect falls. It will come packed with sensors but will fit into a standard lightbulb socket. These sensors will be used to determine if a fall might have occurred, and it even suggests that it could be smart enough to pick up on signs of life.
In addition to detecting falls, the lightbulb could also be used to help determine if someone has been sitting on the bathroom for too long, something which isn’t exactly good for health either. That being said, it is unclear if HTC has plans to eventually make this patent a reality. After all connected devices isn’t exactly one of HTC’s fortes, but then again we have seen the company branch out from smartphones, so perhaps creating connected devices could be something they might explore in the future.

These days we’re starting to see more companies mesh routers, where the idea is to help users blanket their entire home or office with WiFi. This is generally cheaper than buying a new router, and it is also usually easier to setup. Unfortunately it seems that some Pixel and Pixel 2 handsets are experiencing problems with mesh networks following the Android 8.0 update.
According to the reports, users are claiming to be experiencing spontaneous access point reboots, crashes, and intermittent connection issues when connected to mesh network access points. So far one of the routers that seems to be associated with this problem is Netgear’s Orbi routers, although it has been noted that there are also reports from users using Cisco or eero devices.
In a post by Google Community Manager Orrin, the company is currently looking into the issue. “We’ve been seeing a few reports (reddit, etc) of WiFi randomly disconnecting on the Pixel 2. Looks like the majority of the reports are from users that have mentioned they have a mesh network set up. If you are experiencing this, can you post more information here? If possible, please include what access points you are using, how many mesh nodes you have, and any other info about the disconnects (how frequently, after certain activities, etc).”
No word on when a potential fix might be released, so until then we guess users will have to remain patient, or perhaps if possible, go back to a non-mesh network first.

For a while we have been hearing that Microsoft will be bringing keyboard and mouse support to the Xbox platform, and just several months ago, Microsoft confirmed that they were still working on it. However could it be that support for keyboard and mouse could be coming sooner than we think?
According to publication Gamer Professionals, it seems that Microsoft Poland’s website has mentioned keyboard and mouse support on its blog (the page has since been taken down, link is to the archived version). Presumably the post might have went live before Microsoft had intended for it, but it could be a sign that we’re getting closer to launch.
Based on the translation via Google Translate, the portion of the blog reads, “Some players prefer to conquer the virtual world with a pad in hand. Others, above all, value the precision of the mouse movements. Others, however, can not imagine playing on anything other than a keyboard. Now, owners of Xbox One consoles (including Xbox One S models and the latest Xbox One X) can choose these accessories and decide for themselves what they will use. ‘PC Master Race’? Thanks to the keyboard support, we can already successfully talk about ‘Xbox Master Race’!”
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information, but hopefully support for keyboard and mouse could see a launch by the end of 2017.
