StarCrafts ‘Firebat’ Will Be Joining Heroes Of The Storm

While MOBAs like League of Legends of DotA 2 might be arguably more popular than Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm, one of the cool things about the game is that it brings all of Blizzard’s franchises together under a single title. This means that if you’ve always been curious as to how Warcraft and Diablo characters might play together, this is it.

Now the good news for those of you who are still happily enjoying the game is that Blizzard has since announced a new unit they’ll be adding to the game. As you can see in the video above, the next character added to Heroes of the Storm will come in the form of StarCraft’s Firebat “Blaze”.

The character is expected to make its official debut in the game come January 2018, so if the Firebat was one of your favorite characters in StarCraft, you’ll soon be able to play him in Heroes of the Storm. The full extent of the character’s capabilities are still unknown at this point in time, but we expect that more will be revealed at a later date.

That being said, Blizzard probably still has quite a few more characters that they plan on adding in the game. It is unclear from which franchise they’ll be drawing from next, but in recent times we’ve seen them add characters from their latest IP, Overwatch.

Apple Hit With Second Lawsuit Over Slowed Down iPhones

Earlier today it was reported that Apple had been hit with a class-action lawsuit over the slowing down of iPhones. While we did expect that there would be some kind of repercussion as a result of that controversial decision, we did not expect that a second class-action lawsuit would be following so quickly.

In a report from the Chicago Sun Times, it looks like a second class-action lawsuit has been filed against Apple by two residents of Illinois who teamed up with other individuals from Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina. The lawsuit covers devices ranging from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 7, and alleges that Apple had acted in “deceptive, immoral, and unethical” ways.

It also adds that Apple had purposely slowed down iPhones in a bit to “needlessly subjects consumers to purchasing newer and more expensive iPhones when a replacement battery could have allowed consumers to continue to use their older iPhones.” For those hearing about this for the first time, Apple had basically admitted that they do slow down older iPhones that have depleted/older batteries.

Apple’s reasoning is that this is supposed to provide a better experience for users who were facing random shutdowns of their iPhones due to the battery, and that the iOS update they introduced was meant to address the problem. The only downside is that it ended up making older iPhones slower.

Some have suggested that Apple could have approached this issue in a better and more transparent way, such as through notifications to users informing them that a new battery might be in order.

Chromebook Powered By Snapdragon 845 Could Be In The Works

Recently the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset was officially announced at an event in Hawaii. It is safe to assume that the chipset is expected to find its way into many a flagship smartphone in 2018, like the LG G7 and Samsung Galaxy S9, but it seems that there could be another potential use for the Snapdragon 845 as well.

According to the folks at XDA, it seems that two commits have recently been discovered that seems to suggest that a Chromebook device powered by the Snapdragon 845 could be in the works. Note that this would not be the first time that we’re seeing ARM-based chips used in a Chromebook before, but given how powerful the Snapdragon 845 is (at least on paper), it would no doubt be rather interesting to see such a device.

That being said, Chromebooks might not be the only devices in the future that could be powered by the Snapdragon 845. Recently there have been reports to suggest that Xiaomi could be working on a Snapdragon-powered Windows PC, and earlier this year it was confirmed that other companies like Lenovo, HP, and ASUS would be making ARM-powered Windows computers as well.

Interestingly enough the idea of an ARM-powered laptop/PC isn’t new. We have heard rumors in the past that Apple could be thinking of using its A-series of chipsets to power MacBooks in the future.

Some Pixel 2 Handsets Experiencing Rattling Speakers

As highly-regarded as Google’s new Pixel 2 handsets are, it seems that quality control is really an aspect that Google needs to be working on, or at least an area they need to bring up with their manufacturing partners because it looks like a new problem has been discovered in the form of rattling speakers.

When the Pixel 2 handsets were launched, users encountered a myriad of problems with it, and now some Pixel 2 XL handset owners are claiming that they can hear their speakers rattle even when the volume isn’t maxed out. At this point it isn’t clear if it is a hardware or software issues, but some users have claimed that the problem wasn’t present earlier on.

This would seem to suggest that maybe some speaker component might have gotten loose and the rattling could come from the vibrations. So far the only solution seems to be sending the device in and exchanging it for a new one, and while this shouldn’t prove to be an issue, the inconvenience of having to do so and being without a phone is no doubt one that users would have love to avoid.

In the meantime you can hear the issue for yourself in the video above recorded by Android Police’s Artem Russakovskii.

South Korea’s High-Speed Trains Now Come With High-Speed Internet

In some parts of the world, the minute your train goes underground, getting cell service might be tricky, let alone internet. However over in South Korea, it’s a very different story because Samsung will be equipping some of the country’s high-speed trains with some high-speed internet.

Working in partnership with Korean telco KT, Samsung will be equipping the Wonju-Gangneung high-speed train with LTE-R internet. Ultimately this is expected to “provide the public faster, easier access to the largest winter sports facilities in Korea, including PyeongChang.” Given that the Winter Olympics are coming up in 2018, having such facilities offered in their trains will no doubt help leave visitors with a great impression of the country.

For those unfamiliar with LTE-R, it is a “next-generation communications technology for smart train and metro services, enabling high-speed wireless voice and data communications inside trains, from train to ground and from train to train. In particular, LTE-R enables smooth and stable mission-critical communications – including MCPTT, group calls and VoLTE – between train personnel and control centers.”

That being said, Samsung has been steadily rolling over LTE-R coverage since 2015 as part of the company’s commitment to five LTE-R projects, with the train being one of them.
