Chat App LINE To Launch Its Own Cryptocurrency Exchange In Japan

Chances are if you don’t live in Asia, the LINE messenger app might not be one that’s familiar to you, but over in Asia, especially in markets like Japan, Korea, and Thailand, the app is huge where there are actual cafes dedicated to the LINE characters that appear in the app as stickers and emoticons.

However it seems that LINE wants to be more than just a chat app and has announced their plans to launch their own cryptocurrency exchange. The company announced that they have filed an application to register a cryptocurrency exchange with Japan’s financial regulator which will ultimately allow users of the app to trade cryptocurrencies on its platform.

That being said, this is not the first time that LINE has launched financial services of its own. Previously the app had launched its own mobile payments solution called LINE Pay, and with users numbering 40 million registered, it has the potential to surpass Coinbase which is one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency changes with about 13 million users.

That being said we have to wonder whether or not the company’s application will be successful. Following the hack of Japan’s CoinCheck cryptocurrency exchange in which $530 million worth of cryptocurrency was stolen, Japan’s regulator announced that they will be stricter in their regulations to prevent something like this from happening again.

Essential PH-1 Android 8.0 Oreo dropped, skipping to 8.1 instead

Smaller OEMs like OnePlus, Nokia, and Essential boast of their speed at pushing out updates, especially when compared to Samsung’s snail-paced schedule. While that is generally through, it seems that owners of Essential’s first and so far only phone have a lot more waiting to do for one of its biggest updates. After weeks of undergoing public beta testing for … Continue reading

Essential Phone To Skip Android 8.0 Update, Will Wait For Android 8.1

Last we heard, which was back in September last year, the folks at Essential announced that they were working on the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Essential Phone. The update was scheduled for a release in the next “few months”, although clearly that has not happened, and the bad news is that it looks like it may never happen.

In a tweet by the official Essential account, the company has announced that they will no longer be releasing the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the phone. Now before you get up in arms over the announcement, note that the Oreo update is still planned for the handset, but instead of Android 8.0, the team is now waiting for Android 8.1 and will release that instead.

According to Essential, they claim that this is due to various stability issues that were discovered in Android 8.0 during the testing phase of the update. They claim that they believe that these issues will be addressed in Android 8.1, which is why they have decided to focus their energy on the Android 8.1 update.

As a result, the release of the update is expected to be delayed by a few more weeks, but they do plan on releasing the beta for Android 8.1 which will help them test it out further before a public release. It is a bit of a bummer, but we suppose better a stable release than one riddled with bugs and stability issues, right?
