New Fuller House Season Confirmed By Netflix

Netflix has a habit of reviving old series that have long been canceled by their networks. Fans of the popular Full House series were happy when Netflix announced that it was reviving the series and they will be even happier to find out that Netflix has confirmed a new Fuller House season. The revival/spinoff is called Fuller House on Netflix and the streaming giant has now confirmed that there’s going to be a fourth season.

It features the entire adult gang featuring Danny, Joey, Jesse, and Rebecca, that fans know and love moving back to San Francisco. No further details have been revealed by the storyline for the fourth season at this point in time.

Netflix launched this revival/spinoff a couple of years ago and has released three seasons since. The title must be doing something right and bringing in viewers because Netflix’s commitment to invest in a fourth season shows that it’s not a flop.

It’s unclear, though, just how popular Fuller House is given that Netflix doesn’t release ratings so it’s difficult to ascertain just how popular a particular show is.

Given that a fourth season has only just been confirmed, it’s going to be a while before the new Fuller House season hits Netflix.

Facebook Messenger Kids Should Be Shut Down, Say Child Health Advocates

Facebook launched Messenger for Kids last month. It’s a kid-friendly version of the company’s popular Messenger app with pre-approved contacts. Parents set up an account for their kids and they can then use the app to conduct one-on-one or group video chat with approved contacts. Child health advocates haven’t warmed up to the idea and they’re now calling on Facebook to shut down Messenger for Kids.

The Messenger for Kids app has been designed specifically for kids aged six to 12. Facebook requires minors to be at least 13 years old on all of its other services because federal law prohibits children under the age of 13 from signing up.

More than 100 child health advocates, development experts, educators, advocacy groups, and parents have called on Facebook to shut down this app as part of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood. The appeal has been made to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in an open letter which warns that the app is “harmful to children and teens,” and that it could “undermine children’s healthy development.”

With Messenger Kids, parents can create accounts for their kids and stay in touch with them. The kids can use video and GIF tools in chats and even make calls to approved contacts. Facebook said at launch that it won’t display any ads in the app and that there would be no in-app purchases. It doesn’t even require kids to use their real name for the service, unlike Facebook proper.

These safeguards have not convinced the collective of the app’s efficacy. It feels that the overall impact of this app is likely going to be negative because it creates peer pressure for kids to join a social network.

“Younger children are simply not ready to have social media accounts,” the letter says, adding that “They also do not have a fully developed understanding of privacy, including what’s appropriate to share with others and who has access to their conversations, pictures, and videos.”

Facebook’s global head of safety Antigone Davis has responded to the letter by saying that the company has made Messenger Kids as safe as possible for kids by collaborating with child health experts.

“We worked to create Messenger Kids with an advisory committee of parenting and developmental experts, as well as with families themselves and in partnership with National PTA,” she said.

Microsoft Rumored To Acquire Electronic Arts And Valve

Microsoft recently promoted Xbox chief Phil Spencer to Executive Vice President, Gaming and he’s now going to be responsible for leading the company’s entire gaming business across all of its device and platforms. The company recently announced that its Game Pass subscription service will offer Xbox exclusive titles on launch day. Word on the street is that the company wants to significantly improve its first-party exclusive lineup and may be considering acquisitions to make that happen. The companies it’s rumored to have considered include Electronic Arts and Valve.

Microsoft is sitting on a cash pile of atleast $130 billion so it could, in theory, acquire a company like Electronic Arts with a market cap of around $35 billion.

Citing a reliable source close to Microsoft, Polygon reports that Microsoft has considered and may still be considering an acquisition of Electronic Arts. There have also been whispers about Microsoft being interested in picking up Valve and PUBG Corp. The latter is the Korean company behind the massively popular PlayerUnknown’s Battleground game.

It’s said that if Microsoft is going to make an acquisition, it should make an official announcement in the near future. There’s optimism about an acquisition because of the “internal shifts” that the company has made, they include the promotion of Spencer to the head of the entire gaming effort at Microsoft. He is now responsible for charting out the company’s games strategy.

Microsoft under CEO Satya Nadella hasn’t been apprehensive about spending money on gaming companies, it purchased Minecraft developer Mojang for $2.5 billion in 2014. It was actually one of the first major acquisitions Nadella made after taking the top job at Microsoft.

The rumors are tied to a belief that Microsoft wants to have more exclusive games for the Xbox, it sees the lack of exclusives as a major culprit for lagging behind Sony’s PlayStation. Sony does have several internal studios and generally has more exclusive games than Microsoft.

Bear in mind that all of this is a rumor at this point in time and Microsoft has not hinted at any upcoming acquisitions. We’ll update if and when more information comes in.

Facebook Bans ICO And Cryptocurrency Ads

It’s difficult not to be bombarded by ICO and cryptocurrency ads on Facebook these days, particularly if you’ve ever interacted with a page or post related to these interests. Some of these ads are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive practices so Facebook wants to shield its users from them. The company has created a new policy to ban ads that promote financial products and services that employ deceptive or misleading promotional practices. The ban applies to ads for binary options, cryptocurrency, and initial coin offerings.

Facebook says that while it wants users to continue to discover and learn about new products and services through Facebook ads without having to worry about scams, there are many companies that use its ads platform to advertise binary options, ICOs, and cryptocurrencies not operating in good faith.

The company has intentionally left this new policy broad as it’s going to work to better detect such advertising practices before enforcement of this policy ramps up across all of its plaforms. Facebook says that this policy and the enforcement method will be revisited as its detection signals improve.

Facebook knows that it may not catch every ad that should be removed under this new policy so it calls on users to report ads that violate the policy.
