Google’s $1.1 Billion Deal With HTC Has Been Completed

Last year in something of a surprising move, Google announced that they will be acquiring HTC’s smartphone development team for a cool $1.1 billion. Now in a blog post by Google’s SVP of Hardware Rick Osterloh, he has confirmed that the deal between Google and HTC has been officially completed.

Osterloh mentions how the completion of this deal will see a ton of experience brought in to Google’s hardware development team. “These new colleagues bring decades of experience achieving a series of ‘firsts’ particularly in the smartphone industry—including bringing to market the first 3G smartphone in 2005, the first touch-centric phone in 2007, and the first all-metal unibody phone in 2013.”

He also points out that this is the same team that they have been working with for the Pixel and Pixel 2 handsets, and presumably with all these employees now essentially being part of Google, the company can leverage that experience to help make new smartphones, presumably the Pixel 3 being one of them.

He adds, “Today, we start digging in with our new teammates, guided by the mission to create radically helpful experiences for people around the world, by combining the best of Google’s AI, software and hardware.” Osterloh also mentions that with the deal being completed, it will see Google’s operations expand in the Asia Pacific region, namely Taiwan which is where HTC is based in.

Fifth Indiana Jones Movie Will Begin Filming In 2019

The last time we saw Harrison Ford don Indiana Jones’ trademark hat, it was back in 2008 with the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. For those who are looking forward to seeing more Indiana Jones, a report from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the fifth Indiana Jones movie will begin filming in 2019.

The movie will be directed by Steven Spielberg and is planned for a release in 2020 and will also see the return of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, although we’re sure that at some point in time many had thought that Shia Lebeouf would replace Ford especially after appearing in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as his “son”.

At the moment not much is known about the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones movie franchise, although given that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was not as well-received compared to the other movies, we’re sure that many are hoping that the fifth will redeem the franchise. It should also be noted that the fifth movie will be the first time that George Lucas will not be on story duties.

In any case we expect that more details will be revealed later this year or next year, so stay tuned for more updates as they come.

Alleged Samsung Galaxy S9+ Schematics Reveals Minor Changes

For those who are hoping to see a completely redesigned Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ this year, you might be disappointed to learn that won’t be the case. Instead it seems that Samsung will be keeping the design of the Galaxy S8 and S8+, save for some minor changes here and there, namely to the bezels of the phone.

A recently leaked render of the phone revealed what the upcoming handset could look like, with some claiming that the bezels are actually fatter than its predecessor. Now according to a set of CAD schematics posted by @OnLeaks, we have a slightly better idea of why the Galaxy S9 renders looked the way they do.

On the surface it seems that the Galaxy S9+ looks identical to the Galaxy S8+, but if you look at the bezels, you’ll realize that they’re actually more rounded compared to last year’s model. Some believe that the rounded bezels means that the phone could potentially be better to hold without the possibility of accidentally touching the side displays and launching an app or feature.

It is also said to make the phone play nicely with more screen protectors, although whether or not that is true remains to be seen. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but with the phones launch pegged for the 25th of February, we probably won’t have to wait much longer to find out all the official details.

Metal Gear Survive PC Hardware Requirements Revealed

Metal Gear Survive is coming out next month and it will be available on the PS4, Xbox One, and the PC. For console gamers, you guys won’t have to worry about hardware requirements, but for those who are gaming on the PC and are wondering if their current setup is good enough to run the game, wonder no more.

Konami has recently published the hardware requirements on Steam where it reveals both the minimum and recommended hardware specs for PC gamers. Starting with the minimum, gamers will be required to run 64-bit Windows 7 or better, have an Intel Core i5-4460 CPU clocked at 3.40GHz or better, 4GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 with 2GB of VRAM or better.

For those who meet the minimum requirements and think that they can do better, Konami is actually recommending an Intel Core i7-4790 clocked at 3.90GHz or better, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or better. Other than that, the OS of choice and storage (20GB) are the same.

Metal Gear Survive was originally supposed to be released last year, but Konami delayed it to the 20th of February, 2018. It marks the first Metal Gear game without Hideo Kojima’s involvement which we’re sure many are wondering how it will fare, although it seems that those who took part in the beta seem to be pretty upbeat about the game.
