Sprint To Give Customers Free Roaming In Korea For Winter Olympics

With the Winter Olympics coming up which will be held in South Korea, we’re sure that there will be many from the US who will be travelling to watch the games. This also means that there will be roaming involved which can be expensive at times, but we saw Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T announce plans to give free roaming to their customers.

Oddly enough Sprint had kept quiet throughout these promotions, leaving us to wonder if the carrier would eventually launch a similar plan for their customers. The good news is that they do have plans and have since announced it, which is more or less the same as what the other carriers offer, which is free roaming in Korea.

According to the carrier’s announcement, “Sprint wants customers traveling to South Korea for the 2018 Winter Games to share this amazing experience with their family and friends worry-free! Sprint customers will not run out of high-speed data nor will they suffer bill shock when returning home. With Sprint, customers don’t need to plan for international travel. It simply works around the world when they need it.”

This will be eligible for those travelling to South Korea between the 1st of February to the 18th of March. Customers will also have to be on a postpaid data plan, and it seems that all they have to do is arrive in the country, turn on their phones, and agree to the welcome message that greets them, following which a 7-day data pass will be activated (which would have otherwise cost $25). More details about Sprint’s plan can be found on its website.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Could Be Unveiled At MWC 2018

According to a recent report, the Xiaomi Mi 7 might not be announced at MWC 2018, which has us wondering what could the company unveil at the event? According to reports, it seems that Xiaomi could instead be launching an upgraded version of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 that was launched last year in the form of the Mi Mix 2S.

If the rumors are true, the Mi Mix 2S will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, which some claim will be the first smartphone to use Qualcomm’s latest chipset. However given that the Galaxy S9 has been confirmed for MWC 2018 as well and is also expected to use the Snapdragon 845, we’re not sure if Xiaomi will indeed be the “first”, although we suppose they could announce it before Samsung which would make them first.

In terms of specs, not much is known about the Mi Mix 2S save for the rumored Snapdragon 845 chipset. However if previous Mi Mix releases are anything to go by, the Mi Mix 2S will most likely carry on the tradition of sporting a near bezel-less display which seems to be the current design trend adopted by many smartphone makers.

Either way it’s probably best to take this with a grain of salt for now, but with MWC taking place in less than a month’s time, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out for ourselves.

Lenovo Fingerprint Manager has a terrible security flaw

Intel may have set the tone of 2018 with its Meltdown and Spectre double whammy. While security flaws are, of course, nothing new, but now a lot more attention, including from mainstream media, is being given to them. Lenovo’s newest problem might not be as damning as Intel’s but it might equally be for those owning certain ThinkPad PCs. According … Continue reading

New Report Claims iPhone SE 2 Might No Longer Happen

The other day it was reported that Apple could be working on the iPhone SE 2 where it could come with wireless charging and also see a launch in May or June later this year. However that might not be the case, according to a report from MacRumors which cites KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

According to Kuo, he claims that Apple might have “used up” its development resources, and that they might not have enough spare resources to develop a new iPhone model for the second quarter of the year. As such it is unlikely that we will be seeing the launch of the iPhone SE 2 this year.

This isn’t to say that Apple is “broke”, but rather they have simply used up whatever resources they have allocated for development, but we can’t say for sure since we’re not privy to Apple’s decisions. However he does claim that should Apple choose to move forward with the iPhone SE 2, there’s a chance that its upgrades will be minimal and nothing too drastic, meaning that we’re probably looking at a spec bump rather than see new features like a new design, Face ID, or wireless charging.

In a way it would be a pity that there will not be an iPhone SE refresh this year, if the report is true, as Apple could be missing out on potential customers who would rather not spend nearly a thousand dollars for a flagship iPhone.

Microsoft Reportedly Considering (Or Considered) Acquiring EA

EA is one of the biggest publishers in the video game industry, if not the biggest publisher, which means that under their banner there are a ton of games, and apparently this is something that Microsoft could be interested in. This is according to a report from Polygon whose sources have told them that Microsoft could be interested in acquiring EA.

Polygon’s report is on how Microsoft’s Xbox platform doesn’t seem to have enough exclusives, such as Capcom’s Street Fighter V in which it was previously confirmed that the game will never be released on the Xbox One. The report talks about how Microsoft could potentially solve their exclusivity problem, and interviews with analysts have indicated that an acquisition is probably the best route for Microsoft at the moment.

The report reads, “The most recent one we heard (from a reliable source close to Microsoft) was, in fact, Electronic Arts. We also heard a whisper about Valve and about Korean outfit PUBG Corp., which Microsoft last year signed to a timed exclusive for its hit survival shooter, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.”

Of course whether or not Microsoft actually went through the motions to acquire EA, or if was simply something they explored remains to be seen (it also remains to be seen if EA is willing to be acquired), but either way according to SuperData Research CEO Joost van Dreunen, “Because of where we are in the lifecycle of all these things, I’m expecting to hear Microsoft announce something very, very shortly.”
