Microsoft undoes Intel’s buggy Spectre fix with emergency patch

Microsoft undoing an Intel processor patch might seem unlikely, but that’s just what an emergency update for Windows is doing because of Spectre reboots. Reports among Windows users of their PCs becoming unstable and rebooting randomly underscored quite how badly Intel’s Spectre security fix had got things, with Microsoft now forced to issue an emergency Windows patch that rolls back … Continue reading

New Photos Of The Microsoft Band 3 Prototype Revealed

With the Microsoft Band series of fitness wearables, Microsoft made a push into the wearables scene and it seemed like it was doing quite well. It spawned a second generation but unfortunately it was ultimately discontinued. However there were rumors that there was a third Microsoft Band in the works that was cancelled following the shuttering of the program.

Now the folks at Windows Central have managed to get their hands on what appears to be a prototype of the Microsoft Band 3 which they have conducted a review of. Given that the device will never see the light of day anymore, we suppose the review is kind of moot, but it should give us an idea of what could have been, and so far it seems to be pretty good.

Windows Central’s review of the Band 3 is pretty positive in which the device comes packed with more features, like an electrocardiogram and RFID. It also appears to charge faster compared to its predecessor (which makes downtime more bearable), but other than that the form factor and design remain the same (for the most part), save for the clasp area which appears to be thinner.

It also appears to be waterproof which would allow users to track their activity during swimming. However it should be noted that this is still a prototype, which means that the final design and features could be different from what was reviewed, but perhaps if there is enough positive feedback received from this review, perhaps Microsoft could reconsider relaunching their wearables program again.

Google Clips Camera Is Finally Available To Purchase

After announcing it about 4 months ago, Google’s Clips smart camera is finally available for purchase. The camera is priced at $249 which isn’t exactly cheap, but for those who are early adopters of technology and who want to see whether or not it lives up to the hype could find it worth checking out.

For those unfamiliar, Google announced their Clips camera at the company’s Pixel 2 event back in October last year. However the company did not mention when exactly the camera would be made available, although a recent sighting at the FCC seemed to hint that it was close to being put on sale.

In case you’re hearing about the Clips camera for the first time, this is a tiny camera that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to take photos. It is claimed that it is smart enough where it will be able to tell when it is the right time to take a photo, with the goal being that it is supposed to record the key moments in your life.

However we imagine that not everyone might be too pleased with the fact that you’re always being recorded, but to each their own and if you’re not too fussed, the Google Clips camera could be a good way of recording bits and pieces of your life.

Logitech Shipping Harmony Hub Replacements For Link Owners

For owners of the Logitech Harmony Link, it looks like Logitech has kept to their word and is said to be shipping out units of the Harmony Hub as a replacement for the device. For users who entered the code to take advantage of this offer, there have been multiple reports coming in that confirm that the device is on its way to customers.

Last year Logitech announced that they would be bricking its Logitech Harmony Link, which basically turned our smartphones and tablets into universal remotes of sorts. Given that it was launched in 2011, we suppose it’s not surprising that eventually its time would have come to an end.

The good news is that to make up for this, Logitech announced that they would be giving Link customers the Harmony Hub as a replacement. However it should be noted that this free offer only came after there was a ton of backlash following the announcement. Logitech had also initially offered customers a 35% discount, which once again did not sit well with customers, ultimately resulting in them offering a free replacement instead.

The Harmony Link is still in operation but as per Logitech’s announcement, it will cease to work come March 2018, so if you haven’t upgraded yet perhaps now’s a good time to do so.

Celebrate Your Next Birthday with 8-Bit Candles

I just moved into a new decade of life this week, and am feeling a bit long in the tooth – especially after seeing how many candles were on my birthday cake. I suppose I might not have cared so much if the candles were as cool as these ones.

These fun pixel art candles are made using fused perler beads by Burrito Princess, and are the perfect way to decorate a cake or cupcakes for any geeky birthday celebrant. Each colorful candle is topped off with a pixelated flame that’s guaranteed to never blow out. I suppose this could be a bad thing if you believe that wishes are granted by blowing out candles, but I think it’s a good thing since you can reuse these candles every year.

They’re available in a variety of festive colors, and sell for $1.75 per candle. For me, it would have cost a whopping $87.50 to decorate my cake this year, but yours will probably cost much less.
