Logitech Shipping Harmony Hub Replacements For Link Owners

For owners of the Logitech Harmony Link, it looks like Logitech has kept to their word and is said to be shipping out units of the Harmony Hub as a replacement for the device. For users who entered the code to take advantage of this offer, there have been multiple reports coming in that confirm that the device is on its way to customers.

Last year Logitech announced that they would be bricking its Logitech Harmony Link, which basically turned our smartphones and tablets into universal remotes of sorts. Given that it was launched in 2011, we suppose it’s not surprising that eventually its time would have come to an end.

The good news is that to make up for this, Logitech announced that they would be giving Link customers the Harmony Hub as a replacement. However it should be noted that this free offer only came after there was a ton of backlash following the announcement. Logitech had also initially offered customers a 35% discount, which once again did not sit well with customers, ultimately resulting in them offering a free replacement instead.

The Harmony Link is still in operation but as per Logitech’s announcement, it will cease to work come March 2018, so if you haven’t upgraded yet perhaps now’s a good time to do so.

Facebook Improves Their Efforts On Live Video Game Streaming

When it comes to video game streaming, Twitch is more or less the default platform that you probably think of, and to a certain extent YouTube Gaming as well. However it looks like Facebook wants to take both platforms on, and have recently announced a renewed focus towards live video game streams.

According to the social media giant’s announcement, they will be launching a new gamer creator pilot program aimed at video game streams. One of the features that will be part of this new pilot program is to allow gamers to stream their content in Full HD 1080p at a buttery smooth 60fps (of course this will also be dependent on the streamer’s hardware and internet).

Facebook has also announced that they want to help gamers monetize their streams. While they do not mention how this will be implemented, it sounds like they’re working on their own tipping system where viewers will be able to tip streamers directly, similar to what other platforms like Twitch are already offering.

Given that Facebook already offers users the ability to live stream videos, it’s not surprising that some have taken advantage of this to stream games as well. Facebook cites streamer StoneMountain64 as being one of their most popular streamers with over a million followers.

iPhone SE 2 With Wireless Charging Could Launch In May Or June

For those who didn’t see the need for a massive 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch display, or who were put off by the price of the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus, Apple launched the iPhone SE in early 2016 where it came with a 4-inch display and an affordable price tag, sporting a design reminiscent of the iPhone 5, 5s.

However the handset was not refreshed last year as some might have thought, but instead it seems that the refresh could be taking place this year if rumors are to be believed. These rumors are further corroborated by a report from DigiTimes which claims that the iPhone SE 2 could be officially launched come May or June 2018.

In terms of specs, it is not clear what we might be able to expect, but wireless charging is a feature that is said to debut in the phone. Given that 2017’s iPhones all feature the technology, it makes sense that Apple could bring the same tech onto the iPhone SE 2. Other rumored specs include the use of the A10 Fusion chipset found in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, 2GB of RAM, a larger 1,700mAh battery, and 32GB and 128GB storage options.

Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but like we said, the iPhone SE has been designed to be an affordable alternative, so if the prices of the iPhone X are a bit too dear for you, then perhaps the iPhone SE 2 could be worth your consideration.

Apple Touts The Energy Efficiency Of The HomePod

With the HomePod meant to be a set of always-on speakers with Siri at your beck and call, we’re sure that there have to be some customers who might be curious as to how much energy the speakers will consume, especially if left on 24/7. For those who are curious, you’re in luck as Apple has recently published the Environmental Report (via MacRumors) for the HomePod.

According to the Cupertino company, “HomePod uses power-efficient components and software that can intelligently power them down during periods of inactivity. For example, through optimized power management features and a high-efficiency power supply, HomePod has been designed to be efficient in its low power mode, where the majority of time is spent.”

Apple also goes on to claim that the HomePod consumes less power than the average LED light bulb (based on the average power consumed by A19 LED bulbs listed on the ENERGY STAR Certified Light Bulbs Version 2.0) during music playback mode. Of course given that lights are essential, especially in rooms without natural light or at night, we’re not sure if this is a fair comparison, but it could still be worth noting all the same.

The HomePod speakers will be released on the 9th of February and will be priced at $249. So far initial reviews of the speakers have been largely positive, with many reviews affirming Apple’s claims of the speakers being focused on audio quality first.
