Sprint 5G Infrastructure Will Be Rolled Out In Six Cities This Year

Much like some of its peers, Sprint is also gearing up to launch its commercial 5G network in the United States next year. However, before it can do that, the company needs to put new infrastructure in place which will support the next-generation 5G network when it eventually launches. Sprint today announced that it’s going to roll out its 5G infrastructure in six cities across the United States this year.

It’s going to roll out “5G-like capabilities” to customers in Dallas, Chicago, and Los Angeles which include increases in data speed and capacity as Sprint rolls out its Massive MIMO technology. Sprint will later expand the technology to Houston, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. later this year.

To be clear, it’s not switching on its 5G network this year, it’s merely putting the infrastructure in place which will be used for the commercial 5G network next year. The carrier says that its first 5G-ready Massive MIMO cell sites can deliver up to ten times the capacity of existing LTE systems while significantly increasing data speeds for more users in locations with high traffic.

Simply put, Massive MIMO or Multiple Input, Multiple Output technology enables multiple antennas to send data to a single access point. This brings faster data speeds to users without congestion. Sprint will complete this infrastructure roll out later this year and it plans to meet its commitment of launching its commercial 5G network in the United States in the first half of next year.

Coinbase Handing Over Data On 13,000 Bitcoin Traders To IRS

The IRS requested Coinbase, a popular digital currency exchange based in San Francisco, in November 2016 for data on all of its users who bought Bitcoin from 2013 to 2015. The IRS wanted to find out traders who had evaded cryptocurrency taxes. Coinbase tried its best to fight the summons but it ultimately had to comply when a San Francisco court ruled in November 2017 that it had to hand over identifying records on more than 13,000 users to the IRS. It’s going to do that now.

Coinbase has now informed all affected customers via email that it’s going to comply with this court order and provide the IRS with data on more than 13,000 of its users within 21 days.

A court in San Francisco ruled in November last year that Coinbase has to provide the IRS with identifying records for all of its users that completed digital currency transactions of more than $20,000 through their accounts in one single year between 2013 and 2015. The data that it’s going to provide includes names, dates of birth, taxpayer IDs, addresses, and transaction records from 2013-2015.

The digital currency exchange also mentions on its website that “Coinbase fought this summons in court in an effort to protect its customers, and the industry as a whole, from unwarranted intrusions from the government.” However, those efforts have been in vain and the IRS will get the data now. What it chooses to do with it is another matter entirely.

Millennium Falcon Bed Touches Down in Boy’s Bedroom

This Millennium Falcon bed may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts. This kids mom and dad made a few modifications themselves. Actually they built the whole thing. A guy going by the name Dericrw and his wife built this amazing Star Wars bedroom for their son, hoping that he would sleep in his own room for a change.

This bedroom is just awesome. The sleeping pod of the Falcon is the size of a twin bed and is bolted to the ceiling joists. So basically when you enter hyperdrive, the whole house falls down, but that’s okay because you’ll be long gone. The rest of the ship is painted on the wall behind it. The inside looks like the best kid fort ever. It even has a fan for air circulation and LED lights. There’s even a TV that the kid can see from the bed. Under the screen is a weapons cache with his NERF guns and lightsabers. And the LED lights on the side glow in different colors.

Hmmm. Maybe I should visit my mom and dad and sleep in their room until they give in and build me one of these too. It might just work. But I doubt it. Not at my age.

Apple now relies on Google Cloud Platform and Amazon S3 for iCloud data

It’s no secret, Apple has been relying on third-party cloud companies for iCloud. And CNBC spotted an interesting tidbit in Apple’s own documents. The company now relies on Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Platform’s storage product to store iCloud data. Back in 2016, CRN reported that Apple signed with Google for cloud storage.
