Steve Wozniak Scammed Out Of $75,000 In Bitcoin

One has to be careful when dealing in digital currencies given the number of scammers operating who are simply looking to make a quick buck. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak personally experienced bitcoin fraud when he was scammed out of $75,000 worth of coins. He had seven bitcoins stolen from him through fraud. “The blockchain identifies who has bitcoins… that doesn’t mean there can’t be fraud though” he said at a recent business summit.

Wozniak is well known for his love of technologies so it doesn’t come as a surprise that he’s fond of bitcoin. “Bitcoins to me was a currency that was not manipulated by the governments. It is mathematical, it is pure, it can’t be altered,” he said.

However, he added that fraud is prevalent in the digital currency space despite the pure nature of bitcoin. Woz bought bitcoin back when they were trading at $700 and later tried to sell them to someone online who purchased them through the credit card.

However, the buyer canceled the credit card payment after the transaction was done and the bitcoin were transferred. The credit card itself used for the purchase was stolen so there was no way to hold someone to account.

Woz didn’t say whether he sold his holdings when bitcoin was trading around $20,000 a piece, but even at today’s values the money that he lost comes to around $75,000. He does mention that he hadn’t invested in bitcoin rather he had purchased them so that he could one day travel without having to carry credit cards, wallets or cash.

Woz has since sold all except one bitcoin because he didn’t want to watch the price every day. “It was enough to experiment,” he says.

Huawei Watch 3 Is Being Developed But Won’t Be Released Soon

Huawei CEO Richard Yu has said that the company has a new smartwatch in the pipeline but also added that it’s not in a hurry to release it. This means that while the company is working on the Huawei Watch 3, it’s going to take some time before Huawei’s new wearable device hits the market.

Speaking to TechRadar, Yu said that the Huawei Watch 3 will come later. He added that “there’s no hurry because Huawei Watch 2 sells well. We’re not in a hurry, so we’re launching the new watch later.”

There haven’t been a lot of rumors about the Huawei Watch 3 recently even though it has been a full year since the company launched the Huawei Watch 2 at the Mobile World Congress 2017. Naturally, many Huawei fans were looking forward to seeing a new smartwatch from the company at the Mobile World Congress this year.

Yu didn’t provide any more details about the company’s next smartwatch and didn’t even say when we can expect it to be released. This suggests that we may not see the smartwatch at the company’s launch event for the Huawei P20 next month.

It’s possible that the company might announce it at IFA 2018 which will take place in September but that’s just speculation right now. Huawei has used the IFA stage to launch new products in the past so it remains a possibility that the Huawei Watch 3 could be launched in the second half of this year.

Linux On Galaxy Brings Desktop Software To Samsung Smartphones

We have seen multiple iterations of PC-like experiences powered by smartphones. “Convergence” was a main feature of Ubuntu for smartphones and tablets but that software has since been discontinued. Samsung tried its hand at this with DeX last year, the DeX Station accessory enabled Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 owners to access Android apps on a larger monitor. Samsung is now taking this implementation one step further with Linux on Galaxy.

Linux on Galaxy will enable users to run desktop software on their Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphone with DeX. The company mentions that the device will be able to “run multiple operating systems,” which basically means that it will be capable of running multiple Linux distros such as Arch, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.

Samsung has posted a video demonstration of Linux on Galaxy which shows core Linux programs such as Terminal, Eclipse, GIMP, and Firefox installed on DeX. The company says that this software is currently in development but interested users can sign up for notifications about its progress here.

Linux on Galaxy doesn’t rely on emulation or virtualization so it’s possible that only that Linux software which has been compiled for ARM will work with this software. Those who are interested can now sign up for notifications about Linux on Galaxy, the signup page says that Linux on Galaxy has the same Linux kernel “that powers the Android OS.”

Amazon Prime Music Launched In India

Amazon has expanded its Prime Music service to a key market quietly after first expanding its Prime service there over a year ago. It has been revealed today that Amazon Prime Music has now been launched in India. The core Amazon Prime service was launched about 18 months ago in the country but it didn’t offer the free music and video streaming services initially. Prime Video was expanded to India a few months after that but it has taken well over a year for Amazon to finally bring its music streaming service to subscribers in India.

Amazon has reportedly inked deals with five record labels for India which include Sony Music. The music service was previously limited to those who had purchased an Echo device after they were launched in India back in October last year. All Amazon Prime subscribers can now access the music streaming service through the web and apps for Android and iOS.

The service has been rolled out in the country at an interesting time. Local music streaming service Gaana.com recently raised $115 million in funding while Spotify is believed to have set up an office in Mumbai which could hint at an impending launch for the world’s most popular music streaming service in India as well.

An Amazon Prime subscriber costs Rs. 999 per year or roughly $15 in India and subscribers can now access the free music streaming service alongside the video service and also get free delivery on select items from Amazon.
