Apple Said To Begin Trial Production Of 2018 iPhones Soon

The iPhone X was the first revolutionary upgrade for Apple’s smartphone lineup in a few years as it brought new technologies such as the OLED display and 3D sensors. However, the latter presented some challenges on the production line and multiple reports suggested that the components required to power Apple’s Face ID feature were creating a bottleneck and consequently causing supply shortage. With Apple expected to switch to Face ID on other models as well this year, the company is said to begin trial production of the new models soon.

It would make sense for the company to do so as it would want to prevent a repeat of the delays and supply shortages that it had to bear with for the iPhone X last year. A new report out of Taiwan claims that Apple is going to start trial production of this year’s iPhones well ahead of schedule.

The report claims that trial production is going to begin in the second quarter whereas the trial production for started in late July last year. The new handsets aren’t due until the third quarter at the very least as there’s nothing to suggest that Apple is going to stray from its traditional September release for new iPhones.

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhone models this year, two with OLED panels and one with LCD. All three models are said to feature Face ID.

Google Assistant Now Lets You Send And Receive Money

Google Assistant can do a great many things and now it can help you send and receive money just with voice commands. Google has updated its artificial intelligence-powered assistant with Google Pay integration, enabling users to send and receive money effortlessly using voice commands. Don’t fret if you’ve never heard of Google Pay before, it’s just the new moniker that the company gave Android Pay not too long ago when it decided to unify all of its payment platforms under the Google Pay branding.

Starting today, users can send or request money from their contacts for free using Google Assistant on Android and iOS devices in the United States. The company says that it will bring this functionality to voice-activated speakers like Google Home in the coming months.

Those who haven’t signed up for Google Pay yet will be prompted to configure their account when they ask Assistant to send money to their contacts. Funds are transferred almost immediately and the recipient isn’t even required to have a Google Pay account. They’ll simply receive an email, text message or notification if they have the app installed so they can cash out quickly.

All of this can now be down by giving the Assistant simple voice commands such as “Hey Google, request $20 from Anna for the movie tonight” or “Hey Google, send Jennifer $15 for fuel.”

Instagram Makes New Changes To Improve Your Feed

Many Instagram users keep their fingers crossed for the chronological feed to return but it doesn’t seem like the Facebook-owned company is going to make that change any time soon. However, it has introduced some new changes today which it says will improve users’ Instagram feed. The new changes are meant to give them more control over their feed and ensure that they see more recent posts.

Instagram has finally listened to complaints from users that they don’t like when the feed refreshes and takes them to the top automatically. I am personally no fan of this behavior as well.

Therefore, Instagram is now testing a “New Posts” button which will let users decide when they want to refresh instead of the app doing it automatically. If the button is tapped it will take the user to the new posts at the top of the feed.

Instagram has also acknowledged feedback that users want to see newer posts in their feeds first so it’s making the relevant tweaks to its algorithm so that newer posts are “more likely” to appear first.

Instagram decided to switch from its reverse chronological feed in June 2016 and this didn’t really go down well with its fanbase. However, it has stuck with its decision and it seems very unlikely now that Instagram will just decide one day to go back to the old way of doing things. The Facebook-owned company is working on more improvements for the feed which it’s going to reveal in the coming months.

Google Files Go App Gets Even Smarter

Google announced its Files Go file manager app late last year. There are already a plethora of file manager apps available for Android on the Google Play Store but the company’s own app is a straightforward option for those looking to dive into their device’s memory. Google is rolling out a new update for Files Go today which enables the app to provide even smarter search functionality for files.

Files Go not only allows users to manage their files but it also helps them in freeing up space on the device. It makes personalized suggestions regarding the items that users can delete to free up more space such as unused apps, duplicates, and more.

Files Go will now let users search for files on their phone just like they search the web with Google. The company has added its search expertise to the app which means that it now has features like instant results, autocomplete, filters, and search history.

The app has made it easy from the start to remove duplicate files and now when it suggests duplicates for removal, it will also provide the location of the file when users long press on the thumbnail and tap the “i” icon.

Last but not the least, Files Go can now work seamlessly with Google Photos. Once the photos and videos have been backed up to Google Photos, the app can automatically detect and prompt the user to delete those files in order to free up more space on the device.

The updated Files Go app is now available for devices powered by Android.

Bell & Ross creates a transparent tourbillon

It’s spring and that means it’s time for Basel, the definitive international watch show. Around this time every year all of your favorite brands – and brands you’ve never heard of – launch unique timepieces that cost more than a few dozen Honda Accords and look like something made by Doctor Manhattan during one of his less melancholy moments.

Today’s wild timepiece comes to use from Bell & Ross, makers of big square watches that look like aircraft dials. This new piece, called the BR-X1-Skeleton-Tourbillon-Sapphire, maintains the traditional B&R shape but is almost completely clear with a case made of sapphire and held together by pins and screws. The movement, which comes in three colors, is a complete hand-wound tourbillon system and is beautifully visible from all angles.

A tourbillon, for the uninitiated, is a system for rotating the watch’s balance wheel 360 degrees. This system, originally created by Breguet, ensured that a watch didn’t slow down when subjected to odd gravitational forces. Now, however, it’s a wildly expensive conversation starter.

This is a beautiful update to B&R’s original see-through watch and, while the vast majority of us will never own something like this, it’s nice to know that someone still cares about horological complexity paired with wild design. How much does it cost to own the watch equivalent of Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet? About $500,000. The piece, for those interested in picking one up, will be available online.
