Mozilla Stops Advertising On Facebook Following Data Leak

You may have heard the news about a data leak that was recently confirmed by Facebook. The company has offered its explanation and says that it plans to take concrete steps to ensure that something like this never happens again but a #deletefacebook movement is picking up steam online as its users are not happy with the way this has been handled. Now, it appears that some advertisers are having second thoughts as well. Mozilla has announced that it’s halting its Facebook advertising campaigns.

Mozilla says in a post on its official blog that following this entire episode, it has taken a closer look at Facebook’s current default privacy settings and it feels justified in doing so given that it supports the platform with its advertising spend.

The company mentions that while there’s more to learn about these settings, it has found that the current default settings still leave access open to a lot of data particularly related to settings for third-party apps.

It expresses confidence that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will follow through on his promise to improve the privacy settings and offer more data protections to users. Mozilla says it will reconsider its decision to halt its Facebook advertising campaigns once Facebook takes stronger action in how customer data is shared and beefs up the default privacy settings for third-party apps.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Predicts Bitcoin Will Be Global ‘Single Currency’

As Twitter prepares to come down on cryptocurrency scams on its platform, the company’s co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey remains optimistic about the future of one major cryptocurrency. Dorsey predicted in a recent interview that bitcoin is going to become the world’s “single currency” in a decade from now. He believes that the world and the internet will eventually have a single currency and that currency will be bitcoin.

It’s not surprising to see that Dorsey is bullish on bitcoin. Aside from his Twitter duties, Dorsey is also the co-founder and CEO of payments service Square. His other company recently started allowing users to buy and sell bitcoin directly using the Square Cash app. Dorsey has previously referred to Bitcoin as a “transformational technology” for the industry.

“The world ultimately will have a single currency, the internet will have a single currency. I personally believe that it will be bitcoin,” Dorsey predicted in an interview with The Times. He feels that this transition is going to take place over then years but also highlights the possibility that “it could go faster.”

Some might say that this is an ambitious prediction even though the cryptocurrency hype has skyrocketed over the past year and so have the values. There have been some major dips along the way as well. Bitcoin in particular has lost almost half of its value compared to its peak of around $20,000 a pop in December last year.

Fatal Uber Self-Driving Crash Video Reveals More Details

A self-driving Uber struck down a pedestrian earlier this week who later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. This was likely the first known fatal accident involving a self-driving car. The accident took place early morning in Tempe, Arizona and authorities have started their investigations. The local police department has released a video of this fatal Uber self-driving car crash recorded using the vehicle’s cameras. The disturbing video shows the final moments before the crash and reveals some more details about the accident.

The victim can be seen crossing a dark street when she gets struck by the car at 40 miles per hour. It has already been confirmed that the car was in autonomous mode at the time of the accident.

All self-driving cars have a human safety driver behind the wheel to take over in case of an emergency. This would certainly classify as an emergency, however, the interior view shows that the person behind the wheel was likely distracted. It’s unclear what she was looking down at just moments before the car struck the pedestrian.

No explanation has been offered as yet regarding the car’s inability to detect a pedestrian moving across the range of its many sensors and why the human safety driver appears to be distracted. Appears being the operative word here as it’s not known what she was looking down at.

Uber has since grounded its entire fleet of self-driving cars not just in Arizona but in all states as it continues to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Note: The video embedded below is disturbing and graphic even though it doesn’t show the actual impact.
