YouTube To Increase Ads Between Music Videos For Some Users To Upsell Subscriptions

There are many who use YouTube as a music streaming service. All they have to do is launch a playlist or create one themselves, queue up a bunch of music videos and they’re good to go. However it seems that YouTube wants to target these particular subset of users and try to upsell them to music subscription services.

According to a report from Bloomberg, this will be done by increasing the number of ads that play in between music videos. In a statement provided by the company, “Our top priority at YouTube is to deliver a great user experience, and that includes ensuring users do not encounter excessive ad loads. For a specific subset of users who use YouTube like a paid music service today — and would benefit most from additional features — we may show more ads or promotional prompts to upsell to our paid service.”

At the moment YouTube has several subscription programs under its belt. For example they have YouTube Music which is aimed more towards music, then they also have YouTube Red which is aimed at creating exclusive original content for subscribers, then there is also YouTube TV aimed at users who want to stream certain channels via the platform.

There are also rumors that YouTube has a new music subscription service in the works that could be launched this year, although we’re not sure how it plans on differentiating itself from the competition or YouTube Music.

Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+ To Get ARCore In The Next Few Weeks

With Google officially launching ARCore last month, this meant that some handsets announced earlier this year would not be launched with support for the feature. This included Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ users, but the good news is that it looks support for ARCore for both handsets are expected to arrive in the next few weeks.

This is based on a post on Github (via Android Police) in which the message reads, “Support for the S9 and S9+ will be added in the next release, which should be released in the coming weeks.” There is no specific mention of dates so we guess Galaxy S9 and S9+ owners have no choice but to just wait.

In the meantime it seems that there are quite a few apps that are taking advantage of ARCore by updating their apps to support it. This includes IKEA who launched their Place app, an app that lets users place furniture in their home using augmented reality. Then there is also eBay who is using augmented reality technology to help eBay sellers figure out the best box size to ship their items in.

Even Google is getting in on the fun by launching their own fun little app called “Just A Line” that lets users “draw” in the air.
