Hublot Unveils The ‘Big Bang Referee’ Wear OS Smartwatch

When smartwatches were first announced, many Swiss luxury watchmakers seemed dismissive of the idea, and while for the most part many still seem reluctant to embrace it, some have come around such as TAG Heuer. It looks like TAG Heuer won’t be alone in their smartwatch endeavors because Hublot has launched their own luxury smartwatch.

Dubbed the “Big Bang Referee”, this is a smartwatch that the company has designed for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup. The watch is powered by Google’s Wear OS (formerly known as Android Wear) and will feature a 35.4mm watchface, a 400×400 AMOLED screen, support for Bluetooth and WiFi, and is expected to last an entire day thanks to its 410mAh battery.

However don’t expect this smartwatch to be Hublot’s main foray into the world of wearables. It will be a limited run device with only 2,018 models made, but perhaps if there is enough demand we could see Hublot venture into creating something more permanent. That being said, the watch will also come with specific World Cup features, like a countdown to the event, notifications for start times, and will also notify wearers when a goal has been scored.

Referees will also be given a special version of the watch that works with goal-line technology. In fact the device has actually been in testing in secret since 2017. Unfortunately given Hublot’s branding and the fact that it will be limited edition, the Big Bang Referee will not come cheap with a price tag of $5,200.

Mark Zuckerberg Wants To Better Protect Your Data

As you might have heard, Facebook is in quite a lot of trouble after it was discovered that an outside company had misused user data gathered via Facebook, which is said to have had an impact on how it helped President Donald Trump win the election. Now Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has come forward with a plan on how Facebook can better protect your data.

According to Zuckerberg, “We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can’t then we don’t deserve to serve you. I’ve been working to understand exactly what happened and how to make sure this doesn’t happen again. The good news is that the most important actions to prevent this from happening again today we have already taken years ago. But we also made mistakes, there’s more to do, and we need to step up and do it.”

To do this, Facebook will be taking a look at all apps that might have access to a large portion of user data and will conduct full audits on any apps with suspicious activity. They will also be banning developers that misuse personally identifiable information. They will also be restricting developers’ data access even further, such as removing access to a user’s data if they haven’t used their app in 3 months.

Personal data will also be further reduced to just the user’s name, profile photo, and email address, and that additional data will require developers to seek approval but also sign a contract. Facebook also has plans to roll out a new tool at the top of their News Feed that shows users the apps they’ve used and also provide an easy way for users to revoke access.

We’re not sure if all of this will be enough, but we suppose it’s a start.

Chrome Will Soon Block Autoplaying Videos With Sound

Last year Google announced that Chrome will start blocking videos from automatically playing which can be annoying if you load multiple tabs and suddenly you hear a cacophony of sound blasting through your speakers. The good news is that Google is taking it further by blocking autoplay videos with sound.

This is according to a report from 9to5Google in which Google has added more criteria in which it determines whether or not a video can autoplay. One of those criterias is that the video must be muted or not feature audio, meaning that a video can be autoplayed in the background as long as there is no sound, so basically no harm no foul.

Hopefully this means that in the future, there will no longer be anymore nasty surprises when it comes to loading websites and getting a shock, especially if you have headphones on. Other criteria include users previously tapping/clicking on the site during the browsing session, added to the Home screen on mobile, or if the user has frequently played media on the site based on the Media Engagement index, like if you were to browse YouTube frequently, for example.

These changes aren’t live yet and are part of Chrome 66 which means that if you’re not part of the beta, then you’ll have to wait until its public release to take advantage of these new features.

Riot & Blizzard To Team Up To Fight Against Toxic Behavior In Games

When it comes to toxic behavior in their games, Riot and Blizzard are no strangers to this. Both companies have gone about dealing with the problem in their own separate ways, but now it looks like they will be trying something new and that is they will be working together to combat it through the Fair Play Alliance (FPA).

The FPA won’t comprise of just Blizzard and Riot, but will be host to a bunch of different companies such as Intel, Epic, CCPGames, Discord, Twitch, Supercell, and more, many of which gamers are probably familiar with. Speaking to Kotaku, Riot senior technical designer Kimberly Voll said that the goal was to create a set of consistent behavior standards in hopes that companies in the future will have something to work off of when creating new games.

According to Voll, “A lot of these challenges today are super intimidating. These are big cultural shifts. As an industry and as a society online, we’re trying to find our way. Having to be a company that steps out and says ‘We’re gonna be the ones to do this’ is kinda scary. This is an opportunity for all of us to say ‘What if we walked together as an industry?’”

Given that the alliance is only just getting started, it’s probably a bit too early to tell how it will fare, but we suppose it’s a good start and hopefully will yield some positive results.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Could Be Single-Player Only

Considering that Activision went ahead with a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remaster, it didn’t really come as a surprise to learn that there could be a Modern Warfare 2 remaster in the works. Now thanks to reports from both Eurogamer and CharlieIntel (via JustPushStart), more details have been revealed.

It appears that unlike the Modern Warfare remaster, it looks like the sequel will not feature multiplayer. Instead it will be a single-player affair as both publications have “confirmed” this with their sources. It also seems that the remaster will indeed be launched on the 30th of April as per the previous listing spotted on Amazon Italy.

This is interesting because previously Activision decided to release Modern Warfare Remastered as a bundle where it was only available if gamers purchased Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. However the decision to release Modern Warfare 2 Remastered as a standalone copy probably means they’re trying to squeeze out as much profit as possible as the game is expected to be priced at €19.99.

It is possible that the first remastered title was a test of sorts to see if this is something players wanted before remastering more Call of Duty titles. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but in the meantime Activision has confirmed Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 which is set for a release on the 12th of October later this year.

Some Galaxy S9+ phones reported to have touch screen issues

Considering how little of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ have changed over their predecessors, you’d think that they wouldn’t be experiencing that much problems. Unfortunately, there are already some problems reported that mar the Galaxy S9’s reputation right off the bat. The worst, so … Continue reading
