Latest OnePlus 6 Leak Reveals Price And Specs

OnePlus fans are certainly looking forward to seeing what the company has up its sleeve. There have been bits and pieces of information concerning the OnePlus 6 but nothing substantial had surfaced until today. A new leak out of China on Weibo reveals some information about the OnePlus 6 specs and its price tag.

Previous rumors have suggested that the OnePlus 6 could have a notch up top and that has been reiterated by this leak. It merits mentioning here that Oppo’s latest handset also has a notch and OnePlus devices tend to be based off of that particular line given that both Oppo and OnePlus are owned by the same company.

According to the leak, the OnePlus 6 is going to feature a 6.2 inch display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The company might offer the device with 64GB and 128GB of storage as well.

To further cement its position as this year’s flagship killer, the OnePlus 6 might also feature a dual camera system at the back with one 12 megapixel sensor and a second 20 megapixel sensor. It hasn’t been confirmed so far how much the new handset is going to cost but the rumor mentions that the one with 256GB storage is going to be priced at $749.

None of the specs mentioned in this leak are outrageous so all of this is well within the realm of possibility. OnePlus is yet to confirm when it’s going to officially launch the OnePlus 6.

Netflix Gets Its Own Custom Font

Does a tech company know it has arrived when it finally gets its own custom font? That may not be the case because Netflix certainly arrived and even dominated the online video streaming scene long before it got its bespoke font but it has finally got one today nonetheless and it’s called Netflix Sans.

Netflix is far from being the only technology company that has its own bespoke font. It actually joins a rather distinguished list of companies which include Apple, Samsung, Google, and Microsoft.

The Netflix Sans typeface has been created by the company’s in-house design team in partnership with Dalton Maag. Netflix is going to use its custom font for all branding and marketing materials from now on.

The online video streaming giant previously used the Gotham font in its branding materials but it later decided to create its own typeface because it wanted a unique identity and because it no longer wanted to pay the expensive licensing fees for the Gotham font that Netflix was using in all of its international marketing campaigns. Netflix says that moving to its own type will save the company “millions of dollars” annually.

The jury is still out on whether or not the Netflix faithful will like this new typeface, even if they don’t, they’ll have to get used to it because they’re going to see a lot more of it now.

Google Maps For iOS Can Now Show Restaurant Wait Times

Google Maps for iOS has received a new update today which bumps up the app to version number 4.47 and brings it in line with its Android counterpart. A couple of new features are included in this release, such as more transit details as well as a very handy feature which shows wait times for more than a million sit-down restaurants across the globe.

The official changelog for this update mentions that some bug fixes are also included alongside the new features which help users discover new places and navigate to them. There’s a new feature that lets users easily sort reviews by ratings and other various factors.

Additional transit directions will tell users exactly which entrance they need to go into to get where they want to go. This feature is available in New York, Hong Kong, Taipei, Paris, Los Angeles, Delhi, Moscow, Singapore, Madrid, Barcelona, Kiev, and Budapest currently while more cities will be added in the future.

Probably the most useful feature included in this Google Maps for iOS update is the ability to show restaurant wait times for more than a million eateries across the globe. The average waiting times will be displayed hour-by-hour throughout the day so that users know at a single glance what are a restaurant’s peak hours and how long the average wait is.

Version 4.47 of Google Maps for iOS is now available from the App Store. It’s a free download, as always.

Android P May Launch Apps Automatically When Connected To Select Devices

Google released the first official Android P developer preview earlier this month and since then, developers have dived into the firmware to figure out some of the new features that will be included in the next major Android update. The latest discovery suggests that Android P may have support to launch apps automatically when the phone is connected to select devices or accessories.

Google is expected to release at least four developer preview builds of Android P and since this is only the first one, it goes without saying that upcoming builds will reveal more information about the new features that will be part and parcel of Android P.

The first developer preview contains code which suggests that Android P might bring support for contextual app launching. This has been revealed by a teardown of Android P’s SystemUI APK. The feature will trigger the launch of predefined apps when the handset connects to certain devices or accessories.

What this build doesn’t reveal is just how configurable this feature is going to be and which apps and contexts will be supported. You can already configure automatic app launching on Android devices but there’s no native solution for it. Apps like IFTTT, Automate, and others have to be used for this purpose.

The native feature in Android P may not be robust enough to replace apps like IFTTT that are much more capable, but then again, something’s better than nothing.
