Streaming seems to be the way to go these days. Analysts expect that the market would soon overtake and devour traditional TV services, becoming the be-all and end-all of video entertainment at home and on the go. These services, some of them smaller than the network giants that run cable and live TV, often compete on more than just the … Continue reading

Land Rover Explore Outdoor Phone
Posted in: Today's ChiliFor those who love to tackle rough terrain during their free time, then a 4×4 is a must-have vehicle that will further encourage exploration to places off the beaten path. Well, the name Land Rover is synonymous with rugged vehicles that are able to bring you just about anywhere, and the company has decided to work alongside the Bullitt Group in order to develop the rugged Land Rover Explore Outdoor Phone. This handset was specially designed for people who live for adventure and yet require a handset that is capable of surviving whatever it’s put through, making it a notable entry to the world of rugged smartphones.
Right underneath the hood of the Land Rover Explore lies a powerful 4000mAh battery that is capable of delivering up to two days of typical use, or for the more robust power user, a full day of activities even with constant GPS navigation mapping activated on the 5″ HD display. The battery life can be further doubled through the use of the included Adventure Pack whenever you are on the move. Once it is added, it will do away with the need for a separate GPS device with its GPS patch antenna which will further improve the reliability and accuracy of the GPS. Of course, the Adventure Pack will throw in another 3600 mAh of battery power and premium topographic mapping via Skyline augmented reality.
The universal bike mount provides users with the flexibility of bringing the Land Rover Explore Outdoor Phone with them on their cycling adventures, while boasting of exceptional durability. It has been drop tested from heights of 1.8 metres with a factory fitted screen protector, allowing it to survive underwater, including salt water complying to IP68 rating. Extreme temperatures, thermal shock, humidity and vibration exposure are like water running through a duck’s back, allowing you to bring this through heavy downpours or a muddy trail without fear or worry of it breaking down.
The touchscreen can be controlled via wet fingers or even while wearing gloves, where improved connectivity options will be provided by a dual SIM feature so that users can hook up to a couple of networks simultaneously as and when required. Expect the Land Rover Explore with the Adventure Pack to retail for €649 per set with a slated April 2018 availability date.

Apple’s 2017 iPhone was launched with a very, very hefty price tag making it the most expensive smartphone around, not counting those that have been blinged out in gold, diamonds, and other precious stones. It has been speculated that price was one of the reasons why reception to the iPhone X has been somewhat tepid.
The good news is that if you held out for 2018’s model, you might be interested to learn that a report from DigiTimes (via 9to5Mac) has suggested that this year’s model could be cheaper and could be priced under $1,000. However we should point out that the report is referencing the 5.8-inch model (rumor has it that Apple could launch three iPhone models this year) and not the others.
The report claims that Apple has managed to reduce its total bill of materials to more than 10% lower than that of the 2017 iPhone X. This means that unless Apple tries to be greedy and increase their profit margins, it could also mean that would-be customers can save some money as the 2018 model could be cheaper.
That being said DigiTimes doesn’t necessarily have the best track record when it comes to these kind of things so take it with a grain of salt for now, but this isn’t the first time that we’re hearing such talks so here’s hoping that it is true.

If you own the Nintendo Switch then chances are at some point or the other you might have paid a visit to Nintendo’s eShop. In case the name wasn’t already obvious, the eShop is where gamers can find new games to purchase/download, but if there is one criticism that many seem to have about the eShop is that it isn’t necessarily the most easy to navigate.
The good news is that according to a report from Eurogamer, it appears that Nintendo has listened to the feedback of their gamers and will be working on improving it. This was confirmed by Nintendo’s senior manager for publisher and developer relations Damon Baker who revealed that changes will be coming to the eShop that will help make games more discoverable and visible.
According to Baker, “We’ve heard the feedback from yourselves, from fans, loud and clear, about the limitations of the Nintendo eShop. I can assure you steps are being taken over the course of the year to improve the functionality in terms of discoverability and visibility, to highlight all of that great content.”
Exactly when these changes will be made remains to be seen, but presumably it will arrive in a future firmware update. In the meantime it looks like Switch gamers who are still purchasing digital games through the eShop will have to put up with it until those changes come.
