Study Finds That Self-Driving Vehicles Cause Higher Levels Of Stress

It is expected that self-driving cars will eventually become the norm and default mode of transportation in the future. After all if drivers can save themselves time from driving while accomplishing other things, why not? Plus no one likes sitting in traffic jams so having someone (or something) else behind the wheel is great.

However according to a recent study conducted by the Kempten University of Applied Sciences, it seems that self-driving vehicles cause higher levels of stress amongst passengers. According to study author Bernhard Schick, “We wanted to explore how the car of the future would have to be designed in order for humans to be able to trust their vehicle.”

Schick conducted the study with 50 participants that ranged in their age groups. The study also monitored the participants while a car with modern lane-keeping systems was driven around. It found that stress levels increased in all subjects when the system was activated, but it has been suggested that this is largely due to the fact that participants weren’t sure how to feel surrendering control to a computer.

We suppose this is normal behavior and as soon as it becomes the norm, people should get used to it. In the meantime accidents like the one Uber recently experienced are probably not doing the whole self-driving concept any favors regardless of who was at fault.

Researchers Develop AI That Can Diagnose Prostate Cancer

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been used to great effect where it can help predict and automate a bunch of things. It has also been used in the healthcare industry where it can be used to predict psychosis and also potentially predict death which will be useful when trying to determine the best end-of-life care for patients.

Now it seems that Chinese researchers have managed to develop AI that can diagnose prostate cancer as well as a pathologist. The goal here is to eventually reach the level where it can help compensate for the shortage of pathologists and where it can possibly automate or semi-automate the diagnosis process which involves taking a biopsy to be examined.

However according to one of the researchers Hongqian Guo, the goal of the AI isn’t to replace the job of a pathologist. “We still need an experienced pathologist to take responsibility for the final diagnosis. What it will do is help pathologists make better, faster diagnoses, as well as eliminating the day-to-day variation in judgement which can creep into human evaluations.”

To train the system, the researchers took 918 prostate samples from 283 patients. The images were subdivided into smaller samples to train the system and to increase accuracy, in which based on their testing produced pretty accurate diagnosis of 99.38%.

Avengers: Infinity War Will Be Marvel’s Longest Movie Yet

Given the scale of Avengers: Infinity War which is supposed to bring all the Avengers together in an epic battle against Thanos, we’re sure many are wondering how long the movie is expected to run for and whether or not they will be able to fit everything in. The good news is that it looks like it will be a long movie, and will be Marvel’s longest superhero movie to date.

According to a listing on Fandango, Avengers: Infinity War will run for 156 minutes, or 2 hours and 36 minutes, although it could be shorter minus the credits. Previously the longest Marvel movie belonged to Captain America: Civil War, which we guess was like a pseudo-Avengers movie that brought multiple superheroes onto the big screen.

The movie’s co-director Joe Russo also adds that chances are Thanos will have the most screen time which makes sense given that he’s the movie’s primary antagonist. Russo also adds that Thor could also have quite a bit of screen time where he said, “I think you’ll find that Thor has a really interesting arc in the film. He hasn’t been at the forefront of other Avengers movies but he certainly has a very important role in this film.”

In any case it’s something worth taking note of if you plan on watching the movie. Avengers: Infinity War is currently set for a release on the 27th of April, 2018.

France Wants Tougher Rules On Hate Speech Made On Social Media

Right now anyone can sign up for social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and so on. Anyone can also post anything they want, and while some things are forbidden to be posted, it can make it past automated filters which allows them to be seen by others even if for a brief moment.

We’ve seen tech companies like Facebook and Twitter take a stance on their platforms being used to spread hate speech, but it seems that it might not be enough. In a report from Reuters, it seems that France wants tougher rules on hate speech made on social media platforms, where they want social media companies to do more.

According to French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, “These days a newspaper director is criminally responsible if hateful comments are posted on its website but if you run a social network anything goes. Nobody is going to convince me that the social networks live in space. What gets published and circulated in France is published and circulated in France and must answer to the laws of the French republic.”

Philippe also went on to state that the country would be tightening up its own rules, but stopped short on elaborating on when and how they will be enforced.
