Rihanna’s right: Snapchat isn’t innocent (or immune to damage)

Rihanna just proved that once social networks went public, they put themselves on the same wobbly pedestal they themselves created. The way Snapchat was updated recently, it’s fairly insulated from criticism from within its own network. But when a major influencer like Rihanna wants to take a shot at the company from another network, outside Snapchat’s echo chamber, stockholders listen. … Continue reading

Facebook Enables Direct PC Game Streaming And Rewards

Facebook wants a piece of the online gameplay streaming market that is largely dominated by Twitch and YouTube which is why the world’s largest social network has announced the launch of its new Games SDK for PC today. It has already been leading up to this announcement as Facebook has previously tested gameplay live streams for games like Overwatch. The social network has now announced direct live streaming from PC games to Facebook as well as in-game rewards for those who tune in.

Facebook announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco today that it will now enable PC games to stream live to Facebook and even offer in-game rewards for spectators. It has released a new Games SDK for PC which is focused on these new live streaming features.

It’s not just limiting this to PC games. Facebook has also confirmed that it’s going to release a new live streaming API for mobile developers in the following weeks. They can expect to release the updated mobile SDK in the not too distant future.

This software development kit will make it possible for gamers to add Facebook streaming functionality into their titles. With the functionality enabled, players will be able to stream gameplay directly to a Page, Profile or Group on the world’s largest social network within seconds.

The new rewards feature will allow developers to provide in-game rewards for viewers who tune into the live streams on Facebook. The rewards will help increase community interaction and give them an incentive to get back to playing the game themselves.

Ford Moves The Car Dealership Online

You’re buying more and more of the things that you use online so why not cars? While there are countless online services that let you search for and buy used cars, Ford has now decided to put the car dealership online. It has launched a new online experience called Ready.Shop.Go. which it describes as a flexible, transparent online car shopping experience.

Ready.Shop.Go. lets customers search inventory, view pricing, and even lock in a deal for 48 hours if the vehicle that they want is available. They will even be able to apply for financing, estimate trade-in values and schedule a test drive before even having to visit the showroom in person.

Ford seems to be aiming for the younger and more impatient lot that don’t necessarily have the patience to visit different dealerships and sit through countless sales pitches. They would much rather configure everything online to their liking and simply walk into a dealership only to walk out with their new card with as few steps in between as possible.

Ready.Shop.Go. is being launched in several Midwestern states this month and Ford is planning to make it available throughout the United States by the end of this year. Future iterations of this online experience will also include customizable purchase and lease options provided by AutoFi. It will enable customers to remotely view and digitally execute contracts with Ford Credit.

LinkedIn Users Can Now ‘Ask For A Referral’ Before Applying For A Job

LinkedIn has released a new feature for job seekers on its platform which will enable them to leverage their network of connections as they try to find a new job. The “Ask for a Referral” feature will place a button alongside the jobs where the user knows people through the platform who work at the company that’s now seeking to hire new people. The button will let users send those connections a message through LinkedIn in order to ask them for a referral.

Job seekers will also find a new “in your network” filter which allows them to narrow down a job search to companies where they’re already connected to someone via LinkedIn. Additional filters such as “industry” or “location” can be added to further refine the results.

“The number one way job seekers on LinkedIn first discovered a job was through someone they knew, which is not surprising, as nearly 50 percent of recruiters say referrals are the leading source of quality hires,” said LinkedIn associate product manager Bryce Lewis.

Once they hit that button to ask for a referral, users will be able to choose which of their connections they want to ask in a bid to increase their chances with the recruiters. While LinkedIn will suggest some phrases to use while asking someone for a referral, it recommends that users personalize their message with information that’s relevant to the professional relationship they have with that particular client and their suitability for that job.
