Facebook Enables Direct PC Game Streaming And Rewards

Facebook wants a piece of the online gameplay streaming market that is largely dominated by Twitch and YouTube which is why the world’s largest social network has announced the launch of its new Games SDK for PC today. It has already been leading up to this announcement as Facebook has previously tested gameplay live streams for games like Overwatch. The social network has now announced direct live streaming from PC games to Facebook as well as in-game rewards for those who tune in.

Facebook announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco today that it will now enable PC games to stream live to Facebook and even offer in-game rewards for spectators. It has released a new Games SDK for PC which is focused on these new live streaming features.

It’s not just limiting this to PC games. Facebook has also confirmed that it’s going to release a new live streaming API for mobile developers in the following weeks. They can expect to release the updated mobile SDK in the not too distant future.

This software development kit will make it possible for gamers to add Facebook streaming functionality into their titles. With the functionality enabled, players will be able to stream gameplay directly to a Page, Profile or Group on the world’s largest social network within seconds.

The new rewards feature will allow developers to provide in-game rewards for viewers who tune into the live streams on Facebook. The rewards will help increase community interaction and give them an incentive to get back to playing the game themselves.

Google Pay Now Offers Mobile Tickets For Las Vegas Monorail

Google wants to simplify public transportation for you using Google Pay, allowing you to skip the line at crowded stations where buying a ticket can lead to delays as the trains continue to whiz by while you keep standing in line. It has launched mobile tickets for the Las Vegas Monorail on Google Pay today. The tickets are powered by NXP’s MIFARE contactless technology.

Google Pay users will now be able to buy their Las Vegas Monorail ticket online and save it instantly. They only need their phone to ride the system as they won’t even be required to open the app. This works with the Las Vegas Monorail because it’s the first transit agency which allows you to use prepaid tickets or passes with Google Pay instead of a credit or debit card.

Google says that this functionality is coming to more cities soon. Once users have saved their ticket, the app will provide them with information that will guide them along their journey. The app will also display recent transactions, trips, and the location of the nearest monorail station.

To try out this functionality, users have to make sure that they have the latest version of Google Pay, once they have done that they need to head over to the Las Vegas Monorail site and purchase a ticket before saving it in the app.

Macy’s Will Sell Furniture Using Virtual Reality

While some might think that virtual reality is going to make life difficult for physical retailers, there are retailers who are open to embracing this technology and Macy’s plans to be one of them. According to a new report, Macy’s wants to improve sales in its stores by employing virtual reality. It’s going to use VR technology to sell furniture at 50 of its retail locations across the country.

Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette revealed at the ShopTalk retail conference in Las Vegas that 50 Macy’s locations will have virtual reality furniture-selling tools by this summer. Gennette said that the company plans on offering these tools in “as many stores as possible,” so it seems that Macy’s is not just toying with this idea for test purposes. It’s serious about using VR in its stores.

Gennette added that VR technology will enable Macy’s to sell more furniture while having to dedicate less or even no square footage to actually displaying furniture. The retailer has already piloted a virtual reality tool through which customers can use a tablet to add furniture to a room and move the pieces around until they get what they’re looking for.

The system “significantly increased” total transaction sizes as well as sales of items that Macy’s sells but doesn’t keep in its stores. “In addition to the thrill customers may get from using the new technology to make purchases, VR will enable Macy’s to offer furniture departments in locations that didn’t have them before,” Gennette said.

Google Lets Users Purchase Items Through Assistant And Search

Google today announced the launch of a new program called Shopping Actions. The idea behind this program is to tap into the countless “where to buy” searches that the online search giant sees to provide customers with an easy way to shop for products on through Google Assistant and Google Search with a universal cart regardless of their device, be it a desktop, mobile device or even a Google Home device.

Google says that its data reveals that mobile searchers for “where to buy” surged by 85 percent over the past two years. More than 44 percent of those who used their voice-activated speaker at least weekly said that they had used their device to order products such as groceries and household items at least once a week.

This unified shopping experience will let customers save their payment details and then make purchases from participating retailers with instant checkout. Google will take a cut from the retailers as part of this program which will be separate from the ad payments that retailers make to Google for sponsored listings.

This will seamlessly turn browsing into buying for customers. They can purchase a brand soap from Target after searching for it on Google and add it to a Google Express cart. The same customer can then order something like foil through a voice-enabled device and then purchased both items at once through a checkout flow hosted by Google.

Google has already tested this with some partners and has seen an approximately 30 percent average increase in basket size. The Shopping Actions program is open to all retailers based in the United States regardless of their size.
