Lyft Testing Monthly Subscription Plans For Frequent Travelers

Are you someone who travels using Lyft often? Maybe 20-30 trips a month? No doubt that this will add up in terms of costs, but it looks like Lyft might have a plan to help make things slightly more affordable as the company has confirmed that they are now testing out a subscription plan for users who frequently use the app.

Dubbed the “All-Access Plan”, basically this will give users a set number of “free” rides a month for an upfront fee. There are different pricing tiers being tested out, one of which is at $400 a month for 60 free rides with each ride not costing more than $15. Another tier is at 30 free rides for $250 a month.

As to whether or not this works out to be cheaper is unclear since we guess different users have different needs and destinations, but assuming you take the maximum amount of rides at the $400 plan, it averages out to around $6.70 per ride, but with a cap at $15, there might be some instances where you could end up saving some money. However like we said, different passengers have different needs and destinations, so it’s up to you.

Lyft has confirmed that this is something they are testing out in a statement which reads, “We’re always testing new ways to provide passengers the most affordable and flexible transportation options.” It is unclear if Lyft plans to move forwards with this plan in the future, but for those who travel frequently using the app, it might not be such a bad idea.

CNN To Launch News In Virtual Reality On The Oculus Rift

We know that games and movies are great to watch in virtual reality (VR), but what about the news? For those who think that watching the news in VR seems like it would be a great idea, you’ll be interested to learn that CNN has partnered up with Magnopus to bring the news onto the Oculus Rift.

This is actually not the first time that CNN has dabbled in VR. Previously the company experimented with bringing 360-degree stories on the web and mobile, like posting it on Facebook. They had also previously launched the CNNVR app on iOS and Android, so for them to launch the news on the Oculus Rift doesn’t come as a surprise.

That being said, launching the news on the Rift is an interesting move given that the Rift is a dedicated and more powerful VR headset (at least compared to watching it on your phone). According to CNN, one of the benefits of watching the news in VR is that it puts users in the role of the producer where they get to experience the news as if they were there themselves, creating a more immersive experience.

According to CNN, “The app launches with more than 100 virtual reality stories from dozens of countries, all delivered in 4K resolution with encoding by Pixvana. The CNNVR app also includes a CNN ticker scroll and social integration with CNN’s Twitter accounts, so you can get up-to-the-minute breaking news alerts throughout your experience.” The app is already available and if you have the Oculus Rift you can check it out.

HTC U12+ Might Launch In Place Of The HTC U12

Last year HTC launched both the HTC U11 and U11+, which is why it was largely expected that this year we might see both the HTC U12 and U12+. However it seems that this year HTC might be skipping the HTC U12 and going straight to the U12+, according to a report from VentureBeat’s Evan Blass.

According to Blass, HTC’s next flagship smartphone will bear the HTC U12+ branding and is meant to compete against some of the higher-end smartphones in the market today, like Samsung’s Galaxy S9+. The report claims that the upcoming smartphone will feature a 6-inch display with a WQHD+ resolution and a pair of 8MP front-facing cameras.

It is also rumored to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB of RAM and could come with 64GB or 128GB storage options, along with a microSD card slot for memory expansion, and a 3,420mAh battery. There are also rumors of dual rear-facing cameras of differing megapixels, with one sporting a 16MP sensor and the other a 12MP sensor.

It is also expected that the phone will support HTC’s Edge Sense hardware feature that debuted with last year’s HTC U11. This seems to be in line with an earlier report, except that now instead of it being known as the HTC U12, it could be launched as the HTC U12+. Take it with a grain of salt but it is unclear as to when the phone in question might be launched.

New Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Released

If you’ve been looking forward to Avengers: Infinity War, you will be interested to learn that Marvel has since released a new trailer for the upcoming movie. This trailer gives us some scenes that weren’t released in the previous trailers, but if you’re trying to avoid spoilers of any kind then maybe you should give this a miss.

However for those who don’t care, the new trailer gives us more glimpses at Thanos and how he and his flunkies face off against the cast of the Avengers. However as many have since pointed out, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man are conspicuously missing from both the trailer and the new poster that was released, so what’s the deal?

Speaking to Slashfilm, the Russo brothers (who directed the movie) said, “Coming out of Civil War, he’s in the same position that Cap and Falcon are at the end of that movie. And Ant-Man. Coming into this movie, you know… Characters on Cap’s side coming out of the Civil War, some made certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths in them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So Hawkeye’s on his own journey in this movie.”

The Russo brothers also add that the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp movie will have elements from the Avengers movie, and will show signs of it being impacted by the events in the movie. Avengers: Infinity War is set for a release on the 27th of April, 2018, which is about a week earlier than what Marvel had previously announced.
