Google Confirms Android Wear Will Now Be Called Wear OS

It was reported earlier this week that Google might be looking to rebrand Android Wear, the iteration of its mobile platform meant for smartwatches. The company says that trends have shifted significantly ever since Android Wear was launched which is why it has decided to announce a new name for Android Wear which better reflects the reality. Android Wear will henceforth be known as Wear OS by Google.

Google has worked with dozens of technology and fashion brands to launch Android Wear-powered smartwatches. The platform doesn’t lock in users so the smartwatches can be used with iPhones as well and a lot of them are. Google says that in 2017, one out of three new Android Wear smartwatch owners also used an iPhone.

The company says that to better reflect its vision for the platform and the people who wear its watches, it has decided to rebrand Android Wear as Wear OS by Google. The company describes it as “a wearables operating system for everyone.”

No changes have been made to the platform itself so it’s still the same underneath but perhaps some might be announced at the company’s upcoming I/O 2018 developers conference. You can expect to see Wear OS by Google replace the Android Wear branding on your smartwatch and phone app over the next few weeks.

Android 8.0 Oreo For Huawei P10 And P10 Plus Out Now

Much of the coverage about Huawei’s P series of smartphones has been concentrated around the upcoming P20 handsets. The company is due to launch the new handsets on March 27th in Paris and they’re certainly come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Before it launches them, though, Huawei has rolled out the Oreo update for the P10 and P10 Plus.

Huawei launched a beta test for the P10 Oreo update about two months ago and that has finally concluded with the release of the public build of Oreo for these handsets. The confirmation comes from the official Huawei Philippines Facebook page which revealed that the update will soon be rolling out to users.

A changelog hasn’t been provided at this point in time so it’s unclear what features are specifically included in these builds. Users can already expect to find all features that come as part and parcel of the Android 8.0 Oreo update included in this release.

Huawei has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the P10 and P10 Plus over-the-air so it’s going to be a while before it goes live for users in all regions. It should only be a matter of time now seeing as how the rollout has begun.

The company’s fans are most excited about its upcoming devices, though. The P20, P20 Lite, and P20 Pro will be announced on March 27th and at least one of the devices will feature a triple camera system at the back.
