It’s been possible for a while to control bionic limbs with your brain, but there’s been something missing: kinesthetic feedback, or the nervous system signals that give your limbs a sense of presence. You frequently have to stare at your artificial…

Kingdom Hearts 3 Could Introduce Jungle Book World

Just last month the latest trailer for Square Enix’s upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3 was launched where it showed that characters from the Monsters Inc. franchise would be incorporated into the game. However it seems that Monsters Inc. won’t be the latest Disney franchise to be included, and now there are reports suggesting that the Jungle Book could be included as well.

This is according to a recent post on 4Chan (via Game Rant) where it was suggested that a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 will be revealed in April, and that the trailer will also reveal the addition of the Jungle Book world to the game. Mowgli is also rumored to be a playable character alongside Baloo, and will also feature other characters like Bagheera and Shere Khan and also a potential boss battle with Kaa the snake.

The report also adds that Kingdom Hearts 3 will come with a new “summon” feature that lets players summon other characters, like The Lion King’s Simba. That being said, this is just a rumor for now and should probably be best taken with a grain of salt, but if they are true then Kingdom Hearts 3 could be shaping up to be an even more epic game that previously thought.

At the moment there is no set date on a release for Kingdom Hearts 3, but it is expected to be released some time later this year. Hopefully more details will be made available at E3, so check back with us then for more updates.

Google Releases Deep Learning Model Behind Pixel 2’s Portrait Mode

It is safe to say that many were surprised with how good the camera on the Pixel 2 phones was. This is because in the past, Google’s Nexus lineup was never really known for having outstanding cameras, and with the Pixel 2 achieving Portrait Mode purely using software (it doesn’t have a dual lens setup), it was rather impressive.

The good news for developers who wish to take advantage of the Pixel 2’s Portrait Mode is that Google has released (via 9to5Google) the deep learning model behind the technology. This means that developers will be able to get a peek under the hood and potentially apply Google’s technology to their own creations.

In a post on Google’s blog, the company explains a bit on how the Pixel 2’s Portrait Mode works. This is done by “pinpointing the outline of objects”, which in turn “imposes much stricter localization accuracy requirements than other visual entity recognition tasks such as image-level classification or bounding box-level detection.”

They also point out that this kind of technology would have been hard to imagine five years ago, and note that, “We hope that publicly sharing our system with the community will make it easier for other groups in academia and industry to reproduce and further improve upon state-of-art systems, train models on new datasets, and envision new applications for this technology.”

Apple Might Give Siri A Dramatic Makeover

It’s safe to say that while Siri might have been one of the earlier digital assistants to have been launched, it isn’t quite on par with some of the other digital assistants that have come after it. Apple has made some improvements over time, but it is clear at the rate that Amazon’s Alexa is being adopted, Siri is not the preferred choice.

However Apple could be looking to change that, according to a report from The Information (paywall; via Cult of Mac) in which it claims that Apple could be looking to give Siri a major overhaul. The report claims that at the moment, it seems that Apple has no clear vision of what Siri should be.

This has become such a huge problem to the point where Apple can’t decide if they’d rather rip up the entire thing and start from scratch, or continue patching it and improving it over time. This seems to be in line with an earlier report in which Siri’s co-founder was surprised at how little Apple has achieved with Siri, or at least it fell short of his expectations and earlier predictions.

Assuming the report is accurate, this can’t bode well for the HomePod which seems to rely on Siri for pretty much the majority of its functionality. Not to mention we’re seeing many companies take advantage of Alexa and Google Assistant when it comes to voice support, a slice of the pie that we’re sure Apple would love to have. What Apple will decide is anyone’s guess, but what do you guys think? Should Siri be rebuilt from the ground up?
