Elon Musk Is Financially Backing A Secret Comedy Project

Elon Musk has his fingers in multiple pies. He’ll gladly sell you an electric car or a solar roof for your house while figuring out a way to ease public transport and get you on Mars. You wouldn’t normally associate comedy with Musk given that he’s no comedian but according to a new report, Musk is financially backing a new secret comedy project. He’s even said to have poached team members from the popular satire site The Onion.

The Daily Beat reports that several former top staffers and writers of The Onion are now working on a secret project that’s being backed by Musk. Former Onion editor in chief Cole Bolton and executive editor Ben Berkley are both said to be involved with this project ever since they left the publication in 2017. They have poached three of the site’s writers recently and even a longtime editor.

“We can confirm that we have learned nothing from prevailing trends in media and are launching a brand-new comedy project,” Bolton and Berkley said in a statement provided to the scribe, without really describing what’s the project they’re working on.

It’s believed that the new project is likely going to be another written satirical-news property or website. Musk reportedly wanted to buy The Onion years ago and might have decided to create a similar site.

“It’s pretty obvious that comedy is the next frontier after electric vehicles, space exploration, and brain-computer interfaces,” he said in a cheeky statement provided to the scribe.

Walmart Online Grocery Delivery Will Be Significantly Expanded This Year

Walmart launched its online grocery delivery service not too long ago. It’s currently available in six markets across the United States and the company wants to offer this service in a lot more areas by the end of this year. Walmart has said that it’s going to expand its online grocery delivery service to more than 40 percent of U.S. households by the end of 2018. It aims to cover more than 100 metro areas during this time.

What that means is that Walmart will be making grocery deliveries from more than 800 stores across the country. It’s competing with Amazon in this space which started delivering groceries through Whole Foods for Prime Now users.

However, unlike Amazon, Walmart doesn’t require a subscription for its online grocery delivery service. Customers only need to place a minimum order of $30. Customers can place their orders at the dedicated walmart.com/grocery website or use the Walmart Grocery app on their smartphones.

Customers can select the time window in which they want to pick up their groceries curbside or they can have them delivered. In some cases, they can even get their order delivered on the same day. The curbside pickup doesn’t cost money but deliveries carry a fee of $9.95.

Walmart has tested grocery deliveries with partners like Uber and Deliv in multiple markets. The broader rollout of this feature is going to rely on these services and others that will be added to the roster as well.

BMW To Develop The World’s Fastest Racing Drone With DRL

BMW makes some very fast cars so it has great expertise in the area of automotive design and technology. Can it lend some of that expertise to drones? That’s what the German auto giant is planning to do in collaboration with the Drone Racing League. The company is developing the world’s fastest racing drone in collaboration with the Drone Racing League.

BMW will collaborate with the DRL to further develop high-performance racing drones in the BMW Group wind tunnel. This partnership is also going to bring a professional drone race to BMW Welt, a multi-use exhibition center located in Munich, Germany. It’s used for meetings and promotional events where buyers are given the keys to their brand new BMWs.

“The partnership with DRL will enhance BMW’s racing involvement with future-oriented formats,” said Jörg Reimann, BMW’s head of international brand experience.

The DRL Allianz World Championship is the largest global drone racing series and it’s organized by the DRL. The races see First Person View drone pilots race their custom-made DRL drones through difficult three-dimensional courses in great venues across the globe.

Now that BMW is an official partner, it’s going to host the penultimate race of the 2018 season in Munch on July 28th at the BMW Welt. The race is going to be broadcast in more than 75 countries this fall.

DRL built the RaceX last year and it was crowned the fastest racing drone on earth as it reached a top speed of 265.87 km/h. DRL is now aiming to break this record as part of its collaboration with BMW.
