AmazonBasics power banks recalled over fire hazard concerns

AmazonBasics is great choice for everything from HDMI cables to coathangers and a whole lot more. Apparently “whole lot more” also extends to unintentional fire sources. The shopping juggernaut has recalled a half-dozen power banks sold between Decem…

Amazon's gold Kindle Oasis reminds everyone how rich you are

The Kindle Oasis is a conspicuous display of wealth by its very nature (you have money to burn if you can spend $250 on an e-reader in 2018), but apparently Amazon didn’t think it was ostentatious enough. The internet giant is taking US pre-orders fo…

Broadcom Could Fight Block Against Qualcomm Merger Bid

Broadcom has been trying hard to acquire Qualcomm and it has already made multiple unsolicited bids for the company. While Qualcomm recently indicated that it had warmed up to the possibility, President Donald Trump has shot down Broadcom’s attempts to clinch a deal that would have resulted in it taking control of Qualcomm citing national security concerns. However, it seems that the company might be willing to fight the block.

President Donald Trump issued an order yesterday which essentially blocks any merger between Broadcom and Qualcomm. The order says that this step has been taken in the interest of national security and that there’s “credible evidence” which suggests that if Broadcom, a company that’s based in Singapore, takes control of Qualcomm it “might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States.”

Qualcomm was never really open to the idea of being acquired by Broadcom even though the latter has revised its bid multiple times and even tried to fill Qualcomm’s boards with members that viewed the merger favorably. However, with this order, not only can Broadcom not acquire or merge with Qualcomm but all of the people that it proposed for seats on Qualcomm’s board stand disqualified.

Broadcom isn’t going to let this go without a fight, though. The company is in the process of moving its headquarters from Singapore to the United States and plans to complete the process by April 3rd. It may then be in a position to fight Trump’s order in court which it seems willing to do. Broadcom has said in a statement that “US national security concerns are not a risk to closing, as Broadcom never plans to acquire Qualcomm before it completes redomiciliation.”

Six AmazonBasics Power Bank Models Recalled Due To Fire Hazard

You might want to pay attention if you purchased an AmazonBasics power bank over the last couple of years. Working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Amazon has issued a recall of six models of its AmazonBasics Portable Power Banks. The models that have been recalled were sold by the company between December 2014 and July 2017. The affected units post a fire hazard which is why they’re being recalled.

The recall notice mentions that these AmazonBasics Portable Power Banks are at a risk of overheating which can cause them to melt and thus be a potential fire hazard. The notice also mentions that around 260,000 units are affected. The models affected by this recall include the 2,000mAh, 3,000mAh, 5,600mAh, 10,000mAh, and 16,100mAh models with micro-USB cable.

Amazon is now sending out emails to customers who purchased these power bans to inform them of the recall. It’s recommending that they stop using the product immediately. The emails also contain a one-time URL which lets the customer register their product and receive more details about returns and obtaining a refund for the defective product.

The company is obviously no longer selling the affected models. It has already removed listings for these models from its website. Keep an eye on your inbox if you happen to own one of the affected units.

Hidden Valley Ranch Makes Bottles of Dressing Worth $35,000

Did you know that there is a National Ranch Day? Me either. I know now. It was on March 10th. Do we really need a day to celebrate salad dressing? Of course for some people, that’s every day. See, this is why we’re fat, people. Anyway, to commemorate the special occasion, Hidden Valley Ranch commissioned two very special dressing bottles, each worth approximately $35,000.

Each bottle has over 75 carats of diamonds and sapphires, with 18-karat white gold accents and an ornate cap, along with all of the ingredients that make up their ranch dressing of course. The company is keeping one of the bottles, but the other they’re giving away to a lucky Twitter user who follows Hidden Valley and retweets their tweet by May 19th.

That Twitter user will slowly sip the contents from a snifter, because when a liquid is worth that much, you drink it, you don’t put it on salads. Then he or she will sell the bottle on eBay, then buy a car. At least that’s what I would do. Either that or keep it in the hopes that a Ranch Dressing genie would come out if I rub it enough. Three wishes are worth a lot more than one of these bottles.
