Segway reveals the Loomo

LoomoSegway has definitely made a name for itself over time, having popularized the idea of a personal transportation device that has since caught the imagination of many. This time around, Segway Robotics has launched an Indiegogo campaign for Loomo, which is the first mobile robot sidekick in the whole world. Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, the Loomo is actually a smart machine that toggles functions between a mini personal transporter and mobile robot sidekick, and it is now up for pre-order on Indiegogo. There is a limited early bird pricing that will begin from $1,299, which means you will not be able to get it any cheaper in the future.

The Loomo will be launched with a core set of foundational features, where it will come with even more capabilities that will be unlocked over time via over-the-air (OTA) updates. Right out of the box, users are able to ride Loomo as a mini transporter. Apart from that, the Loomo is smart enough to follow the rider autonomously as a robot sidekick, thanks to its playful personality. For those who have a knack for programming, you will be pleased to take note that Loomo will also come with a free Android-based SDK for professional developers as well as enthusiasts alike in order to build on top of Segway’s mobility + AI platform.

Some of Loomo’s key features include its primary ability to be a self-balancing transporter, offering a smooth ride experience across most terrain types. Capable of hitting speeds of up to 11 mph, it can cover up to 22 miles on a single charge. Of course, this is all variable depending on the steepness of the terrain as well as your weight. There is also a voice-based tutorial that enables virtually allows anyone to learn how to ride Loomo in a matter of minutes. Anyone willing to take up the Loomo as a natural evolution of the Segway?
