Android P Developer Preview Download Available Now

Google was expected to offer the Android P developer preview download this month and that is precisely what the company has done today. Factory images for the next major iteration of the Android platform have been released today by the company. Developers and Android enthusiasts can now get it up and running on select devices.

As expected, Android P brings support for the notch, something that Apple popularized with the iPhone X and is now being widely embraced by Android OEMs. Android P will let apps manage how the content is displayed on devices with a notch on the front.

Google has also improved visibility and function in notifications with Android P. The new Messaging Style notification will highlight who is messaging and how the user can reply. Android P also adds support for multi-camera API which will allow users to access streams simultaneously from two or more physical cameras on the device.

All of the changes that Google had detailed today are meant for developers as they will be the ones putting this first Android P developer preview through its paces. Google hasn’t really detailed the consumer-facing new features of Android P just yet.

It’s going to do that at the I/O 2018 conference later this month and that’s also where it’s going to reveal the dessert moniker for Android P. The official factory images are now available for download for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and the Pixel 2 XL.

Amazon Acknowledges Alexa’s Creepy Laughing Issue

If you can’t quite figure out where the creepy laughing sound is coming from in your home don’t be quick to call the Ghostbusters, maybe check your Alexa-enabled device first. Countless reports have surfaced on social media recently of Alexa randomly laughing for no apparent reason. Amazon has now acknowledged the issue and is looking into it.

Many users of Alexa-enabled devices have been reporting hearing unexplained and unprompted laughter from the digital assistant. Alexa laughs on its own without being prompted to wake up.

Some people were actually scared when they thought that an actual person was laughing. That can be a scary thought when you’re home alone and can’t quite come to terms with a digital assistant laughing out of the blue for no reason.

Some users describe the laugh as scary, others ound it “bone chillingly creepy.” They say that the laughing sound is different from the one that Amazon is programmed with, the one it plays when prompted to laugh.

There’s no easy explanation for this right now but hopefully, Amazon will have one for us sooner rather than later. The company has acknowledged the issue in a statement and said that “We’re aware of this and working to fix it.”

Samsung To Release Modular 146 Inch TV In August

Samsung unveiled its monster 146 inch modular MicroLED TV, formally called The Wall, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in January. The Wall has a module-based bezel-less design that exemplifies how users can easily tweak their television sizes and shapes to better suit their needs. They can easily adapt the screen to serve multiple purposes which include creating a wall-sized display for multiple spaces. Samsung has now revealed when it’s going to release this monster TV.

This is also the first MicroLED TV that Samsung is going to commercialize. The company says that its MicroLED technology will offer picture quality that is similar to OLED displays but with a better lifespan.

MicroLED technology is based on LED but unlike the latter, it doesn’t use organic materials rather it uses inorganic materials which reduce the need for a polarizing and encapsulation layer.

Since this is billed as a modular TV, Samsung also mentions that The Wall can be configured in any size that the customers desire. They can have it as a monster 146 inch display or even set it at unique aspect ratios such as 1:1 and 4:3 depending on the content being consumed.

Samsung has said that it’s going to release The Wall in August this year. The company hasn’t confirmed how much it’s going to cost but given its size and advanced display technology, this is certainly going to be one of the most expensive televisions that Samsung has ever made.
