UK Customers Can Break ISP Contracts Over Slow Speeds

We’ve seen how ISPs have advertised how fast they are and how customers should join them. For the most part the speeds advertised are theoretical as there are many factors that affect speed, such as the servers you’re connecting to, how many people are using the internet, whether you’re connected over WiFi or Ethernet, and so on.

However over in the UK, broadcast regulator Ofcom has announced that starting from the 1st of March, 2019, UK ISPs must provide customers with more realistic figures when it comes to speed, especially during peak times. They will also be given 30 calendar days to improve internet speeds should it fall below a minimum guaranteed level, in which failing to do so will allow customers to break their contracts with the ISP without incurring any penalties.

As it stands customers already have that right, however at the moment ISPs do not have a fixed time to resolve the issues, which means that in theory ISPs could keep telling customers they’re working on it indefinitely, thus preventing customers from exiting their contracts unless they’re willing to pay a penalty for doing so.

According to Lindsey Fussell, Ofcom’s consumer group director, “Broadband customers must know what they’re signing up to. These protections will close the gap between the broadband speeds people are sold, and what they actually receive. To give people extra confidence, we are making it easier to walk away – without penalty – if companies fail to deliver.”

Monster Hunter World Is Capcom’s Best-Selling Game Of All Time

Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise is a huge one, so it’s not surprising that when Monster Hunter World was launched, it sold pretty well where it managed to move a whopping 5 million units within the first three days. Now it turns out that it has also become Capcom’s best-selling game of all time.

The company has announced that Monster Hunter World has managed to ship 7.5 million units so far, which takes into account both physical and digital purchases. Prior to this, Resident Evil 5 was considered to be the company’s best-seller at 7.3 million units, but it looks like it has since been surpassed.

We can only imagine that those figures will get even higher over time, especially since Capcom is also expected to eventually bring the game over onto the PC later this fall. As it stands, Monster Hunter World is available on the PS4 and Xbox One. There are no plans to bring the game onto the Nintendo Switch, at least that’s based on a report from last month where Capcom said that doing so would be difficult.

Instead Switch gamers were given Monster Hunter XX which is basically a HD port of the 3DS version of the game that was released in 2016. We’re not sure if the game’s success will see Capcom make a bigger effort to port it onto the Switch, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.

Blizzard To Celebrate StarCraft’s 20th Anniversary

When it comes to RTS games, it’s hard not to think about Blizzard’s StarCraft. The game helped to generate a ton of popularity in the RTS competitive scene, and for many years despite it being old, the original StarCraft remained a popular title to play during competitions, which was later succeeded by StarCraft 2.

Now it looks like the original StarCraft is turning 20 years old, and Blizzard has announced their plans to celebrate it. Starting from the 6th of March, it seems that Blizzard will be spending close to a month celebrating the game turning 20. This will come in all kinds of in-game goodies that can be applied to Blizzard’s various franchises.

For example in StarCraft: Remastered, players will receive a 20th Anniversary UI skin, while a UI skin will also be given to players who play StarCraft 2. There will also be pets and skins for other Blizzard games like Diablo 3, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft. Blizzard will also be giving away three Kobolds & Catacombs packs for Hearthstone players between the 21st to 25th of March. More information can be found on the StarCraft website.

It is unclear as to where Blizzard plans on taking the franchise moving forwards, but for fans, here’s hoping we’ll be able to expect a new StarCraft game soon.

Bethesda Announces Plans For An E3 2018 Showcase

If you’re a fan of Bethesda’s lineup of games, you might be interested to learn that the company might have something new to announce this year. How do we know this? This is because Bethesda has recently posted a video announcing and confirming that they will be hosting a showcase at E3 2018 later this year.

At the moment it’s really anyone’s guess as to what the company could unveil, which means that it’s just speculation at the moment. Fallout 4 was released back in 2015, so perhaps an expansion or a sequel could be in the works. We know for sure that there won’t be a new The Elder Scrolls title for a while, so we probably shouldn’t hold our breaths just yet.

Also given that last year saw Bethesda announce a new Wolfenstein title, that’s pretty much out of the question too. The Evil Within 2 was also announced last year so we can rule that out. It is possible that we might get a new Doom game given that the last time we saw a title in the franchise was back in 2016, but like we said, this is purely speculation.

Alternatively it is possible that Bethesda might have a completely brand new IP that they will launch, so perhaps that could be it. Either way we’ll find out in the next few months. E3 2018 will be kicking off from the 12-14 of June, 2018, with Bethesda’s showcase starting on the 10th of June at 6:30PM ET.
