Sea Of Thieves Becomes Microsoft’s Fastest Selling New IP

Sea of Thieves was a much-awaited title and since it was launched on March 20th, millions of people from across the globe have played the game and contributed to its momentum. The game had more than a million players on launch day and the community continues to grow having recently crossed two million players. Sea of Thieves is already the best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10 and it has also been confirmed that this game is the fastest-selling new Microsoft IP of this Xbox generation.

While it has been confirmed that the game has more than two million players, it hasn’t been revealed how many of those are actually Xbox Game Pass subscribers. They wouldn’t need to purchase the game separately because it was offered as part of Microsoft’s Netflix-style game subscription service on launch day.

Sea of Thieves has also seen considerable interest from the streaming community. More than 100,000 players have streamed Sea of Thieves since launch which has resulted in more than 10 million hours being watched since last week.

The developer has acknowledged that the rapid rise in popularity has led to some scale challenges and exposed some bugs but it has already addressed some of them and promises to look into others going forward. The development team is presently working hard to tackle any issues that impact players and that remains its first priority.

Daimler And BMW Merge Mobility Units

Car manufacturing giants BMW and Daimler have decided to consolidate their efforts for the future of mobility by merging their respective urban mobility divisions. These divisions were focused on services such as parking, ride-hailing, car-sharing, charging, and multimodal transport. They have both been investing in their own separate urban mobility projects over the years but have now decided to consolidate the efforts. The German car giants own prestigious brands including Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Rolls-Royce, and BMW.

This merger combines both companies’ mobility businesses into one entity but the deal does require approval from antitrust regulators. Each company will get a 50 percent stake in the entity. BMW has already been operating a car-sharing service in several markets across the globe while Daimler has made major acquisitions and investments in the ride-hailing space.

With the competition in the urban mobility space heating up as companies like Google and Uber plan to launch their own on-demand services, it makes sense for conventional car manufacturers like Daimler and BMW to work together and pool their resources to better compete against rivals.

The two companies will remain competitors nonetheless outside the scope of this combined entity. “We remain competitors when it comes to the best premium vehicles. The planned merger of our mobility services will pool our resources and sends a strong signal to our new competitors,” said BMW board chairman Harald Krüger.

Snapchat May Let Users Control Third-Party App Access

A new report reveals that Snapchat is developing a new feature which will provide users with control over which third-party apps have access to their Snapchat accounts. A new tab called “Connected Apps” has been discovered in the latest beta version of the Snapchat app and it’s from here users will be able to control the third-party apps that have access to their accounts.

According to the report, this new Connected Apps tab will be located in the settings screen and will show a list of apps with the message that “These apps are connected to your Snapchat account. Choose an app to control what it has access to.”

This section, if it’s widely rolled out, will show users which third-party apps they have connected directly to their account. This is currently allowed with the Bitmoji app that’s owned by Snapchat, users can sign up for Bitmoji through Snapchat or they can just link their accounts. There’s integration with Shazam as well but it doesn’t require users to have a Shazam account.

It appears that with this update, Snapchat wants to become its own app ecosystem similar to Facebook, Twitter, and Google. All three allow users to log-in to other services using their credentials.

Snapchat hasn’t said anything about this so far so it’s unclear right now if and when this change is going to be rolled out widely. We’ll report back once there’s more information.

President Trump Reportedly ‘Obsessed’ With Going After Amazon

As the world’s richest man, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos will certainly have many friends in high places, but it appears that he and his company has a detractor in the highest office in the United States. According to a new report, President Donald Trump wants to “go after” the online retail giant with one sourcing even claiming that he’s “obsessed” with Amazon.

Axios cites five sources who have talked to the president about Amazon who claim that he wants to go after the company. Trump has reportedly discussed altering Amazon’s tax treatment which some of his friends say hurts their businesses and is driving shopping malls as well as brick-and-mortar retailers out of business.

The president’s disdain for the company is quite well known. He has previously relied on Twitter to say that Amazon is doing a “great damage” to tax paying retailers and that consequently jobs are being lost.

Amazon declined to comment when approached by CNBC but its investors have clearly been spooked by the president’s reported remarks. The company’s shares fell 6 percent earlier today which in dollar terms wiped some $50 billion off of its market cap.

The White House hasn’t confirmed or denied the report as yet.

Verizon To Launch Samsung Galaxy J7 Aero And Galaxy J3 Eclipse 2 Soon

Verizon is reportedly going to launch a couple of affordable Samsung devices in the near future. The new devices are said to be called the Galaxy J7 Aero and the Galaxy J3 Eclipse 2. Enough circumstantial evidence has surfaced over the past two weeks to suggest that these affordable devices could be coming out in the not too distant future.

The model number SM-J737 has already been spotted multiple times online. It revealed in a benchmark listing the specs which will likely include an Exynos 7885 octacore processor with 2GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo.

The SM-J737V is the Verizon-branded version of this device, claims prolific Twitter leakster @evleaks, and it’s going to be called the Galaxy J7 Aero. The moniker was recently trademarked by Samsung in the United States as well.

The SM-J337 has also been spotted in benchmark listings where it revealed an Exynos 7570 processor with 2GB of RAM as well as Android 8.0 Oreo. One can expect all of the new handsets that Samsung launches this year to come with Oreo out of the box. SM-J337V is said to be headed to Verizon as the Galaxy J3 Eclipse 2.

What @evleaks didn’t say is precisely when these devices will be coming to Verizon and how much they’re going to cost. However, we may not have to wait for long to find out that information.
